Today's deck that I would like to discuss with
you is the Gladiator Beast deck. Most people think
that this deck is dead. Wrongo! I am in love with
Glads, and honestly think they may have a shot at
making Day 2 at Shonen Jumps. The thing of it is
that majority of a room at a big event will be using
Teleport Dark Armed, so obviously the percentage is
there that it will have a high number in d2
showings. So decks like Glads and Lightsworns etc
are already at a disadvantage. But let's talk about
face to face matchups though. The enemy right now
would be Teleport Dark Armed and Lightsworn. Both of
these decks of course win by big swarms, high attack
beaters and special summoning. I feel I have stopped
all of these aspects with my build. Let's take a
look shall we?

Monster Lineup:::::
First off, Thunder King Rai-Oh is amazing in
here. Against TeleDad and Lightsworn, this guy will
give you some relief. This will stop Reinforcement
Of The Army and Charge Of The Light Brigade. And
it's secondary effect would save you from: for
Dark Armed Dragon/Judgment Dragon/Lumina/Wulf etc.
One thing that Glads have a trouble with is having a
draw engine/maintaining cards so that is the reason
why Morphing Jar is in here. There is really nothing
else you can splash in here to help with that
concept. A good bit of the time, you will get to set
X amount of your spell/traps then flip this guy for
a nice advantage. If you can pull this off, you
should have that game right there. You will have
your combo pieces on the board and a replenished
hand. The rest of the monster lineup is basic. Mole
is there to get rid of opposing synchro monsters or
if you get Gladiator Beast Heraklinos out with Mole,
people will have a hard time coming back from it. I
also wanted to note how good Gladiator Beast
Hoplomus is right now. Setting this guy first turn
is amazing. The percentage is extremely high that
your opponent will ram something smaller into it,
then you can tag out for Murmillo or whatever you
need at the moment.
Spell Lineup:::::
This spell lineup is very solid. Let's talk
about my tech card number 2 in the deck. Burden Of
The Mighty. This card is amazing in here. Let's
break down some scenarios. Say you have a Gladiator
Beast Laquari on the board with Burden Of The Mighty
out. You can't think of much to get over that can
you? Your opponent can trade off their Colossal
Fighter with your Laquari or waste a summon on a Red
Dragon Archfiend just to get over it. I like those
odds. Or even if you wanted to, have a tagged
Hoplomus with a Burden. Nothing will get over that
except a beefy Colossal Fighter. Any other problems
such as Dark Armed Dragon/Judgment Dragon, you will
have ways to stop it right there in most cases with
quite a few of the cards In the build. The rest of
the spell lineup is basic. I chose Giant Trunade
over Heavy Storm simply because I will have a lot of
resources in my Spell/Trap zone.
Trap Lineup:::::
Once again, this lineup is pretty basic. The
tech I have in here is what basically makes this
deck work right now. Tech card number 3 is Waboku.
This card is staple in Gladiator Beasts in my
opinion. It is amazing on either players turn.
Whether you have to ram stuff into bigger stuff then
tag out for destruction, or if you have to eat up an
attack then tag. The best combo is to have Gladiator
Beast Secutor and Waboku on the board. Your
opponents jaw will drop after pulling this nifty
combo off. The reason I use 3 War Chariots, besides
it stopping all your opponents big guys, would be to
get the Equeste loop off. Not many decks are using
D.D Crow anymore, so this combo is more viable now.
Compulsory Evacuation is in there to stop Synchro
summoning, or even bouncing some threat, or even
getting big attacks through!
So there you have it ladies and gents. If you
want to use Gladiator Beasts on a competitive level,
use something along these lines. I have had amazing
results with this build, and would highly recommend
it to any player! This deck has no real bad
matchups, at least I haven't found any yet. If you
have any cool deck ideas, or even any suggestions
for any of my decks please let me know! I am always
available to listen to fellow players, and am always
there if help is ever needed. You can hit me up on
the message board @ Jeff_Lang if you choose to ;]
