Project Mako
Make O' Character Deck
November 30, 2005
Hello everyone. My name
is Mako and I have recently been invited to write for
viewing pleasure, the new character deck section of Pojo.
Before we get start I’d like to thank Pojo for this
opportunity as well as YamiBakuraFan for inspiring me a
couple years ago at our local tourney. Now lets get started.
As my first article I thought it would be appropriate to
make a Mako deck since it is my name on the Pojo message
board. This was one of my original decks I used before I
started going to the evil side of dueling. I hope your
reading to go under the sea while I analyze many of the
cards that help Mako in his duels in episodes 7 and 68-9.
Before making any character deck I would suggest listing
their cards they used and cards that will help out. Remember
while you are making a character deck you still what to put
up a fight when facing some of the best decks.
Here is a list of Mako’s cards-
Legendary Fisherman
Fortress Whale
Fortress Whale's Oath
Umi
Tornado Wall
Jellyfish
Fiend Kraken*
Leviathan*
Megalodon*
Flying Fish
Torrential Tribute
Amphibian Beast
Return of the Doomed
(* = cards that have never been made)
Featured Cards in this deck-
The Legendary Fisherman
WATER/ Warrior/ Level 5/ Attack 1850/ Defense 1600
As long as "Umi" is face-up on the field, this card is
unaffected by any Spell Cards. Monsters on your opponent's
side of the field cannot select this card as an attack
target.
Ah Mako’s favorite card and one of the strongest cards if
used correctly. There are three cards that can make this
card a lot better since by itself or even with Umi it’s
still a weakling. First of these three cards is one known
and used by many, Royal Decree. This will make him perfect
against those Sakuretsu Armors everyone is using these days.
It will also negate Dust Tornado lowering the amount of
spell and trap removal your opponent can use.
Another card that helps is Star Boy. Powering up a weak 1850
monster like our fisherman to 2350 strong enough to beat
Goblin Attack Force. Not only will it power the fisherman up
it’s searched out by mother grizzly and can be gotten back
from salvage. Lastly there’s Spirit Barrier. This will
protect your life points while your fisherman is swimming
solo on the field and when a Star boy falls on the field.
This will easily replace Tornado Wall a mediocre card that
is too dependent on Umi. While I do support being extremely
close to the character deck it needs to be playable. Just by
running the Fisherman so protectively will make your mindset
be just like Mako and allow you to enjoy this deck.
Fortress Whale
WATER/ Fish/ Level 7/ Attack 2350/ Defense 2150
This monster can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual
Spell Card, "Fortress Whale's Oath".
The power of Mako’s deck, while sad it’s true, this is
considered his strongest monster even though it has 50 less
attack points then Amphibian Beast but does have more
defense. XD. For those who don’t know this Fortress Whale
and his ritual are come out in TP7 as a super rare. There
isn’t much to look at unlike the Legendary Fisherman.
Support for rituals include Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands,
Ritual weapon, and Fulfillment of the Contract. I personally
think Fulfillment and Manju are great but might not work
well in the deck. They of course go on a list of cards that
I use if I still have room. Pretty much Fortress Whale is a
Ritual water monster that disserves a spot in this deck
since it came out. If it hadn’t I would be ranting about
Orca Mega-Fortress of Darkness.
The final card we look at is The Legendary Ocean.
A Legendary Ocean
Spell/ Field
This card's name is treated as "Umi". Downgrade all WATER
monsters in both players' hands and on the field by 1 Level.
Increase the ATK and DEF of all WATER monsters by 200
points.
The best card ever created for water decks. This card
sneezes on Umi for a reason. Giving all WATER monsters a 200
attack and defense boost and not just a few selected
sub-types. It also lowers water monster’s level by one,
which is a huge help for the fisherman. And since it’s
considered Umi, The Legendary Fisherman will stay protected
by his effect. Since it s a field card it’s searched out by
teraforming so you’ll always have one in hand. Lastly we
won’t be running Levia-Dragon – Daedalus but I’d like to
point out that it makes it a 1 tribute, 2800 attack monster.
I’d like to consider this card lethal and always a first
choice for this deck.
The Character Deck Card of the Day-
Well every character in the how usually runs a card that
many of the others run. This of course is a staple. Today’s
card is Monster Reborn. Yes a banned card. I’m going to
actually be talking about its substitute, Monster
Reincarnation. This card is very good card. This card gives
you the ability to grab a monster from your graveyard and
put it to your hand with a minimal cost. Since many
characters use Monster Reborn I suggest this card as a
substitute.

As you can see the deck is based on the fisherman as well as
the fish cards i.e. 7 colored fish, giant red seasnake,
terrorking salmon that replaced amphibian beast. The deck
sticks with the theme of Mako’s deck and still stays
competitive. Hope everyone enjoyed this first article and
will be excited for the next one. I will gladly take
requests and the one I get the most of will be the next
character deck I make. But if you guys don’t write I’ll just
make my favorites or I might get lazy. So just write to
mastermalik@gmail.com.
Have a nice day.
Mako ~.+
