Mofox’s journey from
Newbie to the UK National Tournament.
So here is where I need your help. I’m on a small budget (well actually no budget) and I have a limited collection. I am trying to build a deck using Chaos Sorcerer as my main tribute but it could be altered slightly depending on your suggestions. I’ve made a start and I have short-listed what I think are some of my more playable cards. Now remember my collection is based upon mainly starter decks and older boosters (the one’s you get in the tin sets and master collections). I have had some recent cards added to my collection from my failed Ebay attempts, but I lack some of the more commonly played popular cards. Anyway lets get to it. Here is the deck so far and below is a list of cards that could be used. I’m currently concerned about the significant lack of Light Monsters. The letters in the brackets are the attribute of the monster as follows: D = Dark; L = Light; E = Earth; F = Fire; Wi = Wind; Wa = Water.

Monsters: 19 Tributes: 1 1 Chaos Sorcerer (D) (just 1 for the moment as I only have 4 lights in the deck)

Firstly nobody panic I’m not going to turn into a Cookie Cutter Chaos Player just like everyone else, I pretty much have no choice with my current card pool. I still have my 3 online decks that I will be playtesting, collecting the real-life cards for and will eventually compete with. But for now I have to work with what I have got and unfortunately it is pointing towards a Chaos deck.
So now that you can see in more detail what I have to work with. Your help would be appreciated and once all ideas are collated I will post the finished deck. If you have the time then I would also appreciate a side-deck as well. All tips and advice are always welcomed and I will use the finished deck in my first tournament and post a tournament report for you all to see.
I think it would be really cool to compete in a tournament using a deck that has been created by a collection of the most helpful players in the game. Also for all you newbies I will spend sometime collecting information on where you can get the cards to build the finished deck, trying to concentrate on starter and structure decks (the easiest way I know of getting good cards). So that you will all have a definitive way of creating your own competitive deck (if your interested in having a competitive deck that is) quickly and cheaply. I’m obviously trying to get to the next UK National Tournament so I am looking for something that can help me qualify, but that doesn’t mean that you newbies should not keep exploring new deck ideas and combos. In fact I would love for someone to come up with a way to abuse Timeater’s effect in a deck. Making your opponent miss their MP1 is definitely abusable. Imagine if you clear your opponent’s field and he/she has to miss MP1 because of Timeater’s effect. That will also mean no battle phase as well, as he/she won’t have been able to summon any monsters prior to that battle phase. To me that is screaming out to be abused in some sort of soft lock.
I can’t wait to read your responses.
My internet access will be up and running at home in the next week, that will mean I can get through the backlog of emails a lot quicker. I apologise to those I haven’t replied to yet (I think there is about 100+ still to reply to!!) I will definitely get around to you all soon I promise. This will also mean some more online duelling. There have been many many requests for online duelling, so if you do notice me on MSN or something similar then please be wary that there may be lots of other readers asking for duels all at the same time and I can’t duel you all at once. I will get around to setting up a schedule (sounds really formal, but I think it may be necessary) showing available timeslots and I will operate a first come first served basis. Unfortunately I have a life away from YGO and that means I can’t be on all the time (although I will be pushing my luck with the Wife at every opportunity!). Apart from my job I have another member to the Mofox clan due in approx 7 weeks so I have lots of preparation for that as well (decorating the new nursery).
For those readers who are competing in their respective National Tournaments over the coming weeks I wish you all good luck and I’m secretly crossing my fingers that a newbie with a great new deck idea makes a good showing.
My email address is mofox9@hotmail.co.uk email me for any help or advice or even your opinions on my articles. I would love to hear your opinions and if you have any suggestions to improve them then let me know. I will reply to all emails that are sent to me. Remember newbies no question is a stupid question.
Until next time fellow duellists!
