MOFOX’S DECK EVOLUTION
SERIES

Chaos
is Dead!
August 18, 2006
So it has finally
happened, Chaos is Dead, no longer do we dismiss cards that
aren’t light or dark. Finally other attributes are going to
move to the forefront of our deck building. Fire, Earth,
Water, Wind monsters are all going to be viable picks now in
our deck choices.
So as a newbie how do I feel about the new banlist?
I feel really really excited. During my time since the last
banlist I have been participating in lots of duels and my
understanding of the impacts of certain cards has grown.
Now instead of going through all the new card changes. Only
2 changes have really made a difference to me, the banning
of Chaos Sorcerer and the banning of Snatch Steal (a card I
have hated for a while). I never hated Chaos Sorcerer in
fact I duelled with him for a while, made my first real-life
deck based around him. However the reason I am so glad he is
banned is that it will now allow many other cards that were
dismissed due to their non-light/dark attribute to come into
play.
Snatch was card I hated from the first time it was used
against me. I’d invested resources to summon my huge tribute
monster, meaning it was the only card on the field. My
opponent then used Snatch stole my monster, attacked me
directly then tributed it for there own monster and I didn’t
even gain the 1000 LP’s. If played correctly this card was
as good as Change of Heart. I’m also very very glad it is
gone.
So dare I make any predictions about the next top tier
deck(s)? My buddy Dark Maltos believes Machines are on the
rise, he could be right Chrimeratech Overdragon OTK is a
very powerful combo, but my view on all OTK is that they are
hugely dependent decks on individual cards and it is very
difficult to make a solid build. Plus consider that if you
do manage to pull off your OTK then your opponent will just
side in the protection next duel and you won’t win again.
Consider also that we have seen very few major tournament
successful OTK builds and you may understand my reluctance
to stand behind Machines as the next top tier deck. I may be
proved wrong, Maltos knows his stuff, and certainly
understands this game a lot better than me.
My gut feeling is that we will see a Monarch Control/Warrior
Toolbox take the first tournament after the banlist is
introduced. With attributes no longer a concern, Mobius will
make a rise to the top again and with NOC back to 1 people
will be wary of FLIP effect monsters so expect MSLV2 to make
a rise also. ROTA will also become a popular card with
Exiled now at 2. People will initially try to simplify the
format so they can get a grip of any new decks. They will
all play safe and stick to easy to use 1 for 1 cards.
Smashing Ground, Sakuretsu Armour, DDWL, DDA, Exiled Force.
People might feel like we have gone back a step, but
remember we were kind of ambushed with this new list. It has
arrived a month earlier than we all expected and not many
people will be ready for its implications. People will be
unsure of what to expect and that is why they will play
safely to start with.
After that though, who knows. It will take some time for
those creative juices to start flowing through those
duellists’ minds but now that the shackles of Chaos are no
longer holding back our top players perhaps we may see a
revolution in deck building. The impact from banning Chaos
could be huge….
…. we’ll have to wait and see.
Any of you guys who have already submitted deck ideas to me
may now be thinking of lots of new possibilities now that
the new banlist is out. You still have until…
31st August 2006
… to submit your deck ideas so come and submit some more,
last count I had 150+ different deck ideas and I still want
more. Either send them to my email address below or you can
go to the following thread on the message boards to
submit your ideas.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!
I would like to apologise to those readers who might think
they have not had a response to their emails. You have, but
unfortunately for some unknown reason many of the replies I
sent have been rejected. Now I think this may be to with
some of the obscure email addresses that you guys have, but
I have also noticed that my emails have not been going to @aol.com
addresses either. Picture my face as I log in to my email to
see over 150 emails on one day. Needless to say I thought I
was popular, however my joy turned to horror as I opened my
inbox and saw approx 75 email rejections. If you still have
copies of your original emails in a sent box or something
similar resend and I will find a way to reply to you.
My email address is mofox9@hotmail.co.uk email me for any
help or advice or even your opinions on my articles. I would
love to hear your opinions and if you have any suggestions
to improve them then let me know. I will reply to all emails
that are sent to me. Remember newbies no question is a
stupid question.
Until next time fellow
duellists!
