Things to keep an eye out for....Ancient Prophecy
August 25, 2009

Every time a new set is released, there will always be some cards that come over-valued compared to others.  Ancient Prophecy is no exception.  A few of these cards have been hyped even before the set came out, and to make matters worse, it had become a higher rarity that what was expected.

Here are 10 Ancient Prophecy cards (of super rare and above) to keep an eye out for:

1)      ANPR-EN005 Blackwing - Vayu the Emblem of Honor (Ultra Rare/Ultimate Rare)

-          Vayu is without a doubt the most talked about card of the set.  With Blackwings arguably at the peak of their popularity, coming off big tournament wins in Worlds and SJC Indy, Vayu’s demand will be at an all time high.  Vayu literally takes a new twist to the synchro engine, and before long, you’ll be seeing decks built around this little guy.

2)      ANPR-EN009 Jester Confit (Super Rare)

-          Monarchs have a new friend, one in which they can be summoned on the same turn.  With Raiza back at 3, Jester Confit can be easily used as tribute fodder.  Being able to special summon something without any costs that you can later use to tribute is huge.  Expect to see a few of these clowns popping up in decks here and there.

3)      ANPR-EN035 XX-Saber Faultroll (Super Rare)

-          This card is how X-Saber decks will find victories with.  With the condition that you need 2 X-Sabers on the field to summon this, after this card is summoned, you can potentially end up with 4 monsters.  Follow that up with Saber Slash, and advantage is all yours.  This card is a MUST for all X-Saber decks.

4)      ANPR-EN048 Ancient Forest (Super Rare)

-          This card breathes new life into Gladiator Beast decks post-ban list.  Not only does it give GBs new life, it will also make it one of the most control-based decks to ever exist, not to mention one of the most annoying.  This card will not hinder GBs in any way compared to what it can do to your opponent’s strategy.  Love to use it, hate to face it.

5)      ANPR-EN051 Future Visions (Super Rare)

-          Another fairly interesting control-based field spell.  There will be certain rogue decks out there that will thrive on this card.  However, expect this to be a card that quite a few people will want, yet won’t what to do with once they have it.  Using this card can be trickier than it appears.  Maybe a “Spiritual” revival of some sort is in the making?

6)      ANPR-EN052 Core Compression (Super Rare)

-          This card can be a sleeper for the time being.  With rumors buzzing around that Koa’ki Meirus getting a “boss”-type monster in the next set, Core Compression might be the staple card in the deck that will be sought after then.  For the time being though, Koa’ki Meirus still haven’t reached that level of competitiveness yet.

7)      ANPR-EN058 Saber Slash (Super Rare)

-          Another card that makes X-Saber decks good.  Perfectly fitting for the aggressive play-style X-Saber decks bring to the play field.  Saber Slash is basically a Blackwing’s Icarus Attack, and even better potentially...

8)      ANPR-EN085 Card Guard (Secret Rare)

-          A set wouldn’t be complete without secret rares being in demand.  Card Guard is one of those cards.  It allows players to be offensive, yet have insurance invested onto the aggressive monster.  An offensive deck that maintains control over the field can be a scary combination.

9)      ANPR-EN088 Greed Grado (Secret Rare)

-          Draw 2 cards are always good, right?  Well not all the time, as in the case for Greed Grado.  While it looks to be a really usable card, it is somewhat too situational.  A lot of decks these days do not even require to synchro summon to win.  With SynCat basically out of commission, Greed Grado comes to us a format too late.

10)  ANPR-EN092 White Night Dragon (Secret Rare)

-          Hopeless Dragon fans have a new Dragon to play around with...a very powerful one at that.  Not only does it have a massive attack, it also has a very controlling effect.  That puts a new spin into a deck that is purely aggressive.  This could turn out to be a sleeper of a card depending on how it is put into use.
