I’m back with
another Making the Best of Article. Today the
article is focusing on the
Pegasus starter deck. Now, many people
believe that, where the Joey
deck
is the worst, this is the best, mainly because
of Relinquished. And quite possibly, it could
be! But what adds up to all that greatness? Is
it the synergy, or the cards alone? Is it the
sole Ritual monster that can be very powerful in
a game? Let’s look in and find out.
Relinquished may fool you at first. A level one monster with zero attack and defense? The only thing that actually gives it some stability is it’s dark. But wait! What’s that small text that’s so hard to read? Ah! It’s an effect. And a great one at that! Basically, it takes on the form of one of your opponent’s face-up monsters, and if Relinquished would be destroyed the monster is destroyed instead, and you get an Amazon Swords Woman effect. Definitely a good card. In most duels with this card, if you can get it out, only monster removal spells can really destroy it without hurting your self. But the downside is if your opponent leaves their field open, they can hit you hard next turn with any monster. Definitely needs some protection. Luckily, that Level one and zero attack and defense get him under Gravity Bind, Messenger of Peace, and LLA-B. Relinquished is a Ritual monster, which means it would take two other cards to summon it. But this deck includes a combo that makes it even easier. Summon Sonic Bird, a wind level four monster that can search out the ritual card. So then slap it down, tribute a monster (like that Sonic Bird) and summon it to the field! This is a very effective way to summon our most useful monster. One of my favorite parts about this deck are the defenders. Most starter decks only have one of these. The two included in this deck are Aqua Madoor and Giant Soldier of Stone. Giant Soldier of Stone is a great monster with amazing stats for a level three monster, while Aqua Madoor is surprisingly worse, but at level four. Any way, these cards are most useful when set into face-down defense mode. This is pretty obvious, as these cards have way more defense then attack. But, again, under Messenger of Peace, LLA-B, and Gravity Bind, they can be protected. In my Saturday Morning Cartoons article, I made a Toon Deck. These cards are a Pegasus mainstay, and they appear in this starter deck. This deck comes with 4 different toons, plus Toon World. It has Manga Ryu-Ran, Toon Mermaid, Toon Summoned Skull, and Blue Eyes Toon Dragon. Now, out of these four, Toon Mermaid and Manga Ryu-Ran aren’t too great. Their attack and defense are just too low. But with Toon Summoned Skull, you can pop a tribute and get a great monster. I must say, I like him better than the original. Onto the spells! This deck contains the standard Dian Keto the Cure Master for Life Point gaining. This is actually much better in this deck than the others, because Toon World lowers our Life Points by 1000, and this heals 1000 life points! It’s basically like playing a free Toon World, except you lose card advantage. Fissure and Dark Hole are standard destruction cards, and are very useful in the right situations. If your opponent has one monster out, use Fissure. If you have no monsters out, use Dark Hole. Graceful Charity is amazing, especially if you add in a Treeborn Frog! Monster Reborn is probably the second best card in the game (best would be Pot of Greed), as it gives you easy monster advantage, and you can still summon that turn! This is the only starter deck to include Mystical Space Typhoon, and it’s one of the best cards. Mystical Space Typhoon can protect you from any Spells or Trap that threaten you, except Counter Traps (stupid spell Speeds!). Soul Release is a way to counter any weird casual Chaos decks. But, I’d still stick with a Kycoo. That’s just me though. And finally, we have the unnecessary field spell, Yami. It can help you, but it also helps your opponent. Too risky for my tastes. Finally, the traps. Many of these starter decks have way too many traps. This deck is no exception. But some of the traps are okay. Reinforcement’s and Castle Walls help you to survive stronger attacks. It boosts your attack or defense by 500, which can be just enough sometimes. Trap Hole and Seven Tools of the Bandit are for removal, and Waboku is pure protection. One of my favorite traps here is Ultimate Offering. This is very useful, as it an get out powerful monsters in one turn, or many useful effect monsters. All in all, this is one of the best starter decks. It combines effects with strength, and has a nice variety of Spells and Traps. So, until next time, You Guys keep on rollin‘, PlaydohDude.
