Are You a Yugi or a Joey? 6.1.04 I am not much for hot fashion tends. To me, whatever I like, I wear, end of story. But the characters of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime are definitely more fashion conscious than I am. So this week, I offer you, my readers, the chance to see what character you most relate to, style-wise (me, I’m a Joey). And for those of you who feel you need to work on your image, then take some tips from your favorite character or characters and go with it. First, I’ll start with the guys: If you just enjoy being casual and comfortable, you are like me, and you are a Joey. A Joey feels most at home in a t-shirt and jeans, with a tasteful jacket every now and then. Your hair is a good mix between styled and messy – sort of that “just got out of bed” look, but not so much so that you look disheveled. A Joey does not feel he has to dress to impress others, he does it for himself. If you are the complete opposite side of the spectrum, and for you, looking good is a must, you may be a Tristan. A Tristan reads GQ magazine like a bible each month. You must always be outfitted in the nicest clothes, and your hair must be immaculate – for now, you may be following the trend of the faux-hawk, a la David Beckham. A Tristan won’t be caught playing in the mud – he’s too worried about getting dirty (maybe that’s why he doesn’t duel much). You will probably see many a Tristan at Express for Men. Like to feel sophisticated? Then you might be a Bakura. With his tasteful sweater and neatly pressed pants, a Bakura always looks presentable and would look well suited at a country club. However, accessorizing with a large golden pendant takes away from that “upper-crust” look, it makes a bold statement of who a Bakura is (both inside and out). When the situation gets rough, the Bakura will swap the sweater for a classy collared shirt, and when this happens, he means business. Perhaps the smallest group is that of the Kaiba. A Kaiba dresses over the top, not to be fashionable, but to stimulate emotions from others – i.e. fear, respect, etc. A Kaiba will start with a relatively simple layer, such as a long sleeve shirt and slacks, and top it off with a well-decorated overcoat. Depending on the situation, a Kaiba will wear a different coat – one must not be caught wearing the same outfit twice. Whether dueling on a blimp or in the boardroom, the clothes of a Kaiba show power and a general disregard for how others think. Lastly, there is the outcast look, come to be known as the Yugi. A Yugi is a fan of the latex/rubber/vinyl/pleather/leather attire, most commonly found in adult-oriented clubs. Complete with belt-buckle choker and gaudy golden necklace, the Yugi is all about freedom and expression. The hair is the perfect compliment to the ensemble – over the top, two-toned (with colors never found in nature) and full of style. A Yugi may be seen as strange in American culture, but would be considered the epitome of fashion in Japan. It takes a lot of strength and courage to pull of a Yugi, but those who do tend to reap the benefits. Now, onto the ladies: For women who love to feel empowered and want to represent all that is womanly, you have a Mai. A Mai oozes with sexuality, but without resorting to cheapening herself. With a clothing scheme that’s ripped from the 1980’s, a Mai will utilize every piece of clothing in her wardrobe in order to gain power from men. With her jacket and matching mini-skirt, she can be seen as strong, yet retain her femininity. Simplicity is a must – a Mai doesn’t choose to be sexy, she just is. On the other hand, if you are more into the innocent look, then you are more than likely a Tea. A Tea does her shopping at the mall – no high priced boutiques for her. She rocks her school uniform, and is smart-casual outside of school. There is a certain level of class to her clothing (aside from any uniforms she has to wear for a part-time job). She always looks comfortable, but looks good at the same time. A Tea looks cute, without screaming for attention. For the most elegant of looks, try an Ishizu. An Ishizu puts aside the modern world and is more intent on keeping with tradition. Don’t be fooled by this – an Ishizu brings a strong amount of originality to seemingly ordinary garbs. By adding a few pieces of jewelry (headband, rings, etc.), as well as an extravagant golden necklace, a plain white tunic becomes the new hot look. Like a Yugi, it takes a strong person to pull of this look, and one must not care about how others perceive her. I was going to do this like a Cosmo quiz, but that would take a long time to figure out the scorings and stuff like that. But, I hope this was helpful in how you see yourself. Until next time!
