GenCon 2004 Report By Pook
12.06.04 This past
weekend,
The Shonen Jump Tournament marks
the first new official tournament since the creation of the
Yu-Gi-Oh! hobby league. This new tournament is the “most
prestige [tournament] other than the World Championships”
said Andy Fletcher of Upper Deck. He said that this is the
first of the Shonen Jump tournaments, but that Upper Deck
will try to have as many as twenty of these tournaments a
year.
Players competing in the Shonen
Jump tournament were all vying for the top prize, the
elusive “Cyber-stein” card, available for the first time in
the United States. For each round of competition, players
would receive a ticket. For every four coupons, players
were awarded a Yu-Gi-Oh! Season Four tournament pack. The
player with the most coupons at the end of the day was
declared the winner of the tournament.
Aside from the competition floor,
Upper Deck
Upper Deck also used their vendor
booth to showcase their latest collectable card game – a
brand new game based on the Shonen Jump anime/manga Shaman
King. The game differs greatly from other card games, in
that monster or creatures are not deployed to do battle, but
the action takes place in the form of attack performed by
your Shaman. Very few information was known about the
actual release of the game, but Upper Deck is looking at
getting the game onto the market as soon as possible.
