YuGiOh
Upon the horizon something so
evil and vile has come to play.
No longer bounded to the
Darkness by a chaotic sorcerers
rule, screams of defeat and
frustration will ensure.
Lightning strikes the ground and
in the static mist arises a
fiend who delivers a deadly gift
to any who threaten the hand of
his master. Beware not of the
Dark but of what it hides.
With the success of the last
Shonen Jump (one of the most
diverse in the history of this
game) Dark World has finally
broken itself free. It has
proved a viable deck type
capable of setting the tempo of
duels by either giving you plus
advantage off of discards or
simply throwing an opponents
well timed discard effect back
in their face.
For a long time I have been a
hater of Goldd. Nothing
serious, but the metallic clad
fiend has always been too
situational for me to actually
like. I've witnessed his great
power first hand upon my spirit
reaper, met players who called
themselves luck sacks because
they go through a nine round
tournament discarding two Goldd/Sillva
with Graceful Charity eight of
those games. I've read the
metagame reviews where one of
those more aspiring duelist made
this creative concoction...
Bobby Williams
Monsters: 26 3 Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World 2 Sillva, Warlord of Dark World 2 Broww, Huntsman of Dark World 1 Sangan
Spells: 10
Traps: 7
then we progress to the current format were Dark World is the perfect counter for players who play the 6 tribute builds or simply being splashed with cyber stein of all things by team Overdose's more creative players. Then my opinion starts to change. Dark World is a good theme and it really has potential in the hands of a skilled player.
Monsters: 16 3 Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World 3 Broww, Huntsman of Dark World 3 Sillva, Warlord of Dark World 1 Sangan
Spells: 16
Traps: 7
The success of these decks come
from two key ingredients. First
the Dark World monsters have
summoning support outside of
graceful charity. We have all
seen the 2 random goldds hit the
field, but to be a successful
and true Dark World deck we have
to be capable of setting the
pace without the aid of our
opponent. The reason for this
is simply that the opponent may
not be running discard related
cards. The second key
ingredient is that in some way
these decks are hybrid species.
We can see them to be
drastically different from the
cc, but they maintain a lot of
key ingredients similar to the
cc. As stated time and time
again the mechanics of life
always work off the same proven
principles. It is only the
adaptive differences that ensure
success. For a bear and a moose
appear similar in body
structure, they are two
different entities.
With all this in mind I attended
a local Sunday running my Dark
World deck. I tried to blend
the mechanics of both T's and
Perry's deck into something
stable. I was awarded second
place losing to a well built
burn/stein deck (nothing like a
first turn summoning of two
CYBER TWIN DRAGONS!).
Nonetheless the deck ran well
and opened my heart to some of
the coolest artistically
brilliant monsters this game has
offered. Take a look...
Dark Delight (41)
Monsters: 22 3 Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World 1 Sillva, Warlord of Dark World
2 Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive 1 Treeborn Frog 1 Zaborg the Thunder Monarch 1 D.D. Warrior Lady 1 D.D. Assailant 1 Sangan
Spells: 12 1 Smashing Ground 1 Card Destruction 1 Scapegoat
Traps: 7 2 Bottomless Trap Hole
Side Deck (15)
1x Smashing Ground 1x Creature Swap 2x Sand Moth 2x King Tiger Wanghu 2x D.D. Survivor 2x Exiled Force 1x Last Will 1x Book of Moon 1x Royal Decree 1x Zaborg the Thunder Monarch 1x Twin-Headed Behemoth
This deck is obviously geared to my play style a little. I prefer a lot of monster destruction and I try my dandiest to limit the number of bad top decks. Back when Chaos Sorcerer roamed in 3's Deck Devastation was so easy to fuel It made scapegoat cry. But today we lack a decent dark monster. Giant Orc is a great side deck tech to use with such an amazing trap. But as far as the main deck goes, utilizing only the dark world monsters and a tech orc did not work to well for me. I tested Deck Devastation out for the past two months. I so wanted to use it this format. But I just never seem to get the card to work. So with this in mind and keeping with the numerous games of top decking into DDV while not having a legal target on the field I lost hope and think it should stay in the side deck. Honestly I believe that the apprentice magician engine and side deck (main deck if you like) exiled force provide more than enough "reachable" monster removal to deal with such threats.
Under normal circumstances I do not consider Cyber Stein an adequate threat. King Tiger from the side deck provides more than enough protection against that little dark machine.
Thus I dare say the new age dark world deck should focus on the dark world monsters. We should provide a reasonable way to summon them for free while also maintaining good field presence.
One last thing...
I just want you all to know I love being an unqualified, loose-cannon writer with no credentials in any competitive venue whatsoever who began their work by begging for a job and deck fixes . I especially like going off publicly on he who paved the way. I state this in reference to a former article written by the roadpaver. Just remember that controversy is the way of the future, it is a hidden gift granted only to the likes of mankind. Without it there is no reason to exist. More importantly my ultimate goal is to replace the cobblestone with black top, and then who knows...maybe aid in air traffic control when the roads become obsolete.
I hope more than anything I have sparked some controversy, lit a fire of creativity, and given you all something to aspire for. In the end all we have is what we have done with our time and in this moment I promise to be there for you all, meeting the challenges of the environment face first while being proud of the fact I can safely state I do things my own way. For I have learned that mutalism tends to become a parasitic relationship given enough logic. With this in mind I hope all of us can break the bondage of the accepted and learn from the strange. I also hope that I can continue to grow with all of you, for the ultimate goal is to move forward and not look behind. Learn from the past but do not repeat it. This format has given us such a gift and we as a dueling community should not throw it away. Build something else, cover up the road, witness the rebirth of freedom. Outgrow those who think themselves great by simply becoming something they can not, unique. Remember that a road will never go anywhere, it is up to those who travel on it to walk, not stare at the craftsmanship.
Be like the grape, for even when it is dead it is a raisin.

-I am currently looking for members to be associated with my team. At this moment I would love to hear replies from players who have made top 8 in a regional sometime within the past 5 months. If your interested hit me up.
