LOCKED DOWN
December 15, 2006

-"Since warfare has always had the same purpose---to force an opponent to do something against his will---most if not all the rules or methods by which this force can be achieved were worked out in conflicts fought before the dawn of history." (http://bevinalexander.com/books/how-wars-are-won-intro.htm)

The ability to control an opponents options is one of the most powerful objectives that exist.  Wars have been won and lost throughout history due to ones access to supplies, militia, and food.  Those who get something faster can utilize it quicker.  In environmental terms, organisms that deplete another organisms resources indirectly force the other organism into extinction.  No two species can occupy the same niche thus adaptation must exist.  If the opposition fails to adapt they die out.

This is what went through my head upon reading this email...

Hi, I'm a Veteran member of Pojo known as Railgunner783.  I have come

This deck offers so much untapped potential that it makes me cry.  This is the kind of thing I advise we all go out and try.  Offering the ability to lock the field, remove opponents options, and then at optimal times utilize their own monsters against them.

What separates players who go 7:1 and 5:3 is consistency.  If you want to win your deck needs to be capable of doing it multiple times no matter what.  It needs to be able to alter play style according to different advantage scenarios and most importantly be able to adapt to the game environment. Flexibility is the reason why human beings "control" the earth.  If something is not to our liking we can alter it.  We move our resources to suit our needs.  Despite the effect this has on other life, it is beneficial for us (at this point in time) to behave in such manners.

To make this deck more consistent some drops need to be made...

Mystical Knight of Jackal x2

This drop is done for a few reasons.  First and most importantly... I only own one of these:P  The monster is a good monster once field presence has been established.  If we were running Mausoleum of the Emperor and some other big tributes then 2-3 would be easy to summon.  But mausoleum interferes with the current strategy.  It will clog our hand, and not allow us to generate advantageous momentum.  The format is filled with flip effect monsters that kill attackers, thus putting us at a disadvantage if we choose to summon him at a poor time.  I also believe, you all should know this, that drawing two of these at any point in the game will basically ensure that you have lost.  Soul Exchange, multiple brain controls, etc. will interfere with the lock down goal.  Thus 3 of this monster force the deck to take too many changes in order to utilize them efficiently.

Mysterious Guard x2

-This monster, though benefiting our overall strategy, just does not work that often.  Upon using it I often found myself wishing him to be a man-eater bug or another such monster.  We should focus on ways to limit a players options upon the summon.

Jinzo

-Don't get me wrong, Jinzo is one of the best monsters out there.  But today's format is filled with exiled force, OVM, Zaborg, etc.  He just won't stay on the field to warrant play right now.  If we were playing a machine deck, obviously he'd be first pick.  But were not thus the android needs to go.

Gravekeeper's Spy x2

-A great monster that provides tribute fodder.  But if I learned anything from Shonen Jump Boston it was that better tribute fodder exists.  Nothing hurts more than an opening hand with two of these.  Aggressive play, in my opinion, is the way to go.  If we want to deplete an opponents options the only way to do that is to hit their hand and field fast.  Hydrogeddon does this job better than spy.

Nimble Momonga x3

-Similar to the G-Spy issue, nimble provides free tribute fodder.  But why utilize a monster that generates advantage for the Hydrogeddon player?  On this note, why use a beast that clogs our field and does not provide a mechanism to deplete an opponents options?

Back To Square One x2

-In theory this card provides us the removal of a threat.  But the cost of discarding a card to send something back to the top of the deck will more than likely help our opponent.  If we send a monarch to the top expect to see it tribute summoned again.  Cyber Dragon, wow what a waste of 2 cards.  He cost our opponent nothing to bring out to begin with.  If this card did not require a discard then it would be a great form of removal.  But sadly it does thus it is a wasted card spot.

Brain Control x1

The significant drop of actual tribute monsters basically makes this card "useless".  It still has utility and can produce advantage, but without knowing we will have access to a tribute makes me worry a tad.

Mystical Space Typhoon

-As time goes on this spell keeps working its way into my side deck.  People just do not play enough spells/traps face up on the field to warrant play.

Dust Tornado x2

-Like MST, these belong in the side deck.  I understand they were being used to prevent death to our monsters.  But I have a better trap in mind.

Conscription x3

-This card is great, but then it isn't?  You will often find yourself placing Mystic Tomato and Giant Rat on top of the deck.  Every once in a while you'll get lucky and hit a Cyber Dragon/Jinzo.  Nonetheless every once in a while does not justify its use.  Plus it will conflict with the new trap line up.

Without further ado, I present to you all...

Locked Down

Monsters (22)
-------------------------

3x Cyber Dragon
3x Winged Sage Falcos
3x Hydrogeddon
2x Don Zaloog
2x Legendary Jujitsu Master
1x Mystical Knight of Jackal
1x Magician of Faith
1x Exiled Force
1x Twin-Headed Behemoth
1x D.D. Warrior Lady
1x D.D. Assailant
1x Sangan
1x Breaker The Magical Warrior
1x Spirit Reaper

Spells (15)
-------------------
3x Rush Recklessly
2x Smashing Ground
1x Enemy Controller
1x Brain Control
1x Reinforcements of the Army
1x Confiscation
1x Last Will
1x Scapegoat
1x Graceful Charity
1x Nobleman of Crossout
1x Premature Burial
1x Heavy Storm

Traps (5)
-------------------
2x Royal Decree
1x Ring Of Destruction
1x Mirror Force
1x Torrential Tribute

Side Deck (15)

3x Mobius the Frost Monarch
3x Des Wombat
2x Sakuretsu Armor
2x Bottomless Trap Hole
2x Zaborg the Thunder Monarch
2x King Tiger Wanghu
1x Treeborn Frog

The overall objective here is to use Don Zaloog and Cyber Dragon/Hydrogeddon to dominate the field.  Play aggressive, control the tempo, laugh at players who expect that set apprentice magician to alter the game state.  Once field presence has been produced, using Royal Decree to protect our monsters and Rush Recklessly to ensure they stay on the field, we wait to draw into Winged Sage Falcos.  Believe it or not, he is the monster that will generate your locks the best.  Legendary Jujitsu Master, which has been dropped to 2 due to the lack of Conscription still ensures removal while also protecting our LP with his fierce 1800 defense.

The Side Deck will protect us against most stall strategies and totally removes the threat of burn.  Overall I like this deck and think I will be using it for some time:P  Hopefully you all enjoy it as well.

On a side note(s)...

I would like to thank my team, Team Necrosis for any and all input given concerning this deck.

I just checked my ranking and discovered I am the 2nd ranked player in the state of Kentucky!

I plan on doing an article covering different search engines, I utilized multiple engines in my last regional.  Sadly placing 19 out of 192 (weird, I top 8 with 248 and get 19 out of 192)

I have left on vacation at this time, thus it will take me some time to answer my emails.

If anyone has a deck utilizing Master of Dragon Knight, Cyber Dark Dragon, Victory Dragon (which sucks due to the scoop rulings), etc. hit me up.

As always I can be contacted at Tebezu@gmail.com

I wish you all the best of luck in any and all events you attend.

Until next time, I'm on the beach.
