Demonic Tranquility
Sept. 5, 2006

This week I plan on writing a few articles dealing with potential strategies the new format will take on.  Later in the week I will show you a deck I won with at a local tournament and explain to you one of the recurring themes I have noticed flaring up.  But today, today I offer you a devastating creation that will warp your views of fairness and actually make you regret ever leaving a monster in attack mode.

Fire explodes and your control withers away.  Searing heat burns away your hands as your internal organs slowly begin to bubble.  Sweat runs down your face, your un-aware what to do.  Your opponent sits happily with 4 cards in their hand and you now have nothing.

Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi will be something to fear.

I came across this concept recently due to Necrosis co-leader, John Schiavone, and from the horror stories of a close friend.  This deck concept has actually never been capable of competing until the release of Mausoleum of the Emperor and the banning of Chaos.  Basically the deck runs by searching out Mausoleum and dropping your own LP by 2000 to summon Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi.  From there his massive 2800 attack points only have to hit an opponent for any amount of damage.  Upon fulfilling that condition an opponent is forced to discard every card in their hand before their next draw phase.  Basically, in a game dedicated to resources, one hit from a Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi will almost guarantee the game.

Thus I present to you...

2x Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi

2x Giant Trunade
2x Terraforming
2x Mausoleum of the Emperor
2x Creature Swap
2x Enemy Controller
1x Nobleman of Crossout
1x Last Will

1x Graceful Charity
1x Heavy Storm
1x Pot of Avarice

1x Royal Decree
1x Torrential Tribute
1x Mirror Force
1x Ring of Destruction

Basically this deck runs numerous battle searchers.  In doing so we can maintain strong field presence while also being capable of abusing Creature Swap.  Giant Rat is a strong searcher that will flourish in a format without Chaos (I once heard someone say Earth Decks suck.  But Earth decks are balanced decks that simply were overshadowed by Chaos.  Remember this now and forever.  Giant Rat has countless search targets.  Shining Angel in most decks only had itself and DD Warrior Lady.  The reason, b/c it was a light.  Rat is officially one of the best searchers in the game now.)

Giant Rat in turn searches out Nimble Momonga in order to draw 2 more monsters from the deck and also help us keep LP to utilize Mausoleum of the Emperor.  This deck runs no copies of Cyber Dragon due to the fact the card will not be usable late game.  If all is going well, our battle searchers will hopefully always keep a monster on the field.  Basically we play the duel out slow.  Never do we overextend ourselves.  Set a Newdoria and pass.  Set a Mystic Tomato and pass.  Eventually our opponent will get into the habit of hitting our monsters.  Once we draw into the required cards, Giant Trunade (which in this case will not be a minus one due to Hino's killer effect) Summon our two tribute spirit monster for 2000 LP and enjoy an easy duel from their on out.

In one move we will have forced an opponent into top decking, mind the fact they do not top deck into morphing Jar, we will easily be able to develop our field presence.  Royal Decree will help us shut down mass removal while Chiron the Mage will make use of extra Mausoleums or useless Terraformings.

Pot of Avarice is so simple to use that it will remind you of the days of Pot o' Greed (HOW I MISS YOU:()  This is due to all the battle searchers we will be running.

Creature Swap should only be used to establish control of the game or win the game.  Save your creature swaps for an opponents big monsters.  If you hit an opponent with Hino and they set a monster next turn, do not hesitate in swapping for it.  Creature Swap has even more synergy due to your spirit monsters.  Summon Yamata Dragon, set your entire hand, hit an opponents Cyber Dragon, draw 5, and then creature swap them your dragon for their facedown.

This deck has so much potential that it makes me shiver.  I recommend that you all give it a try and find out for yourself.

Until next time, remember always that in one instant you can change the outcome of an entire event.
