YuGiOh
How are you all doing?
My break was great, but now
it is time for me to shake
off the rust and get this
years Yu-Gi-Oh ball rolling.
First thing is first, I
planned on writing an
article about a Horus Deck
inspired by none other than
my good old pal Dion. I am
still working out the kinks
in a Dinosaur Deck,
tinkering around with the
potential of Kuriboh, hoping
to improve my chain strike
build, thinking of the
potential dragon decks have,
waiting in vain agony for
the release of the 2000
attack beastly normal
monster from the next
set, and still yet to summon
Master of Dragon Knight.
But in my absence I have
read some 13 plus different
articles dealing with the
Gadgets. It seems no matter
where I go, who I talk to,
or what I think the dueling
community is fascinated and
inspired to abuse these tiny
machines for as much as it
can. If Yu-Gi-Oh has taught
us anything it is that size
does not matter but that
quantity is king. I, being
a firm believer in aggro,
think such a philosophy is
very true. Life is not
controlled by the macro but
the micro, interactions
among molecules, the concept
of surface tension, kinetic
energy and the power it
takes to break bonds, the
very necessity that all
human life depends upon
prokaryotic life to live.
These things are very true.
BUT........
If you prevent a molecule
from exhibiting polarity,
evolve independently from
other organisms in a
controlled environment,
etc. This world no longer
applies. The way to beat
the gadgets is to simply
control the field better
than them.
The gadgets are small
monster, the largest one
having a meek 1400 attack.
Perfect enough to make
battle searchers like Mystic
Tomato and the like capable
of evening out the advantage
generated. Cards like My
Body as a Shield cause us to
sacrifice a little to gain a
lot. Royal Decree removes
the annoyance of triple
sakuretsu armor and
widespread ruin. In a
format without Cyber Stein
we no longer need to worry
about taking 8000 points of
damage in one move. But the
most important rule to
remember is that the Gadgets
generate advantage by
forcing their
tormentor to use a 1
for 1 removal card, like
smashing ground, to produce
a minus one. I advise that
all of you refuse to minus
one your one for one on a
floater with 1400 attack.
For such an atrocity on the
laws of advantage means you
now have fewer reactions to
your opponents actions.
With this in mind I am
thinking of a little beast
forgotten by most. A King
among monsters, a creature
so powerful and evil that
the weak shall not inherit
his kingdom. A monster
truly a believer in the
ideas of Darwin.

This deck is far from
completion, for we really
have yet to see what gadget
line-up dominates. But I
believe this is a step in
the right direction to
combat them. King Tiger and
Hydrogeddon abuse the free
fodder and play style of the
future gadget player. My
body and decree punish them
for using a lot of monster
removal. The format is
evolving and cards once
considered "staples" like
Bottomless Trap Hole have
faded to the side deck or
completely from the scene.
Thus Sacred Phoenix takes
advantage of this by coming
back from the ash time and
time again. As long as
people choose not to play
Bottomless Trap Hole
and replace it with multiple
copies of attack orientated
removal, Vampire Lord and Mobius
the Frost Monarch
will increase in play and
our new found friend the
firestorm monarch will fade
away.
Why will he go back in the
trade binder you ask. Well,
if people are running
gadgets, his effect will
more than likely hit a
gadget searched from the
deck. Thus he no longer
provides advantage.
If this is what Yu-Gi-Oh
players want to play I
believe we should punish
them for doing so.
And with this I leave you
with a quote by Mark Twain,
-
"It is easier to stay
out than get out."
If anyone has any questions,
wants to talk, has a clever
deck idea, etc.
