Tebezu on YuGiOh
It hides in the light and Shows itself in the Dark
December 5, 2007

Yu-Gi-Oh has finally gotten back to its roots.  In this games infancy size made all the difference.  Summoned Skull, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and Dark Magician were dominating threats once they hit the field.  La-Jinn and Ax of Despair were common sights.  Yet as this game continued we slowly found that it was not the size of the monster that counted, but how well their effect justified its use.  Even behemoths with 3300 attack stood no chance to the likes of itty-bitty spirit reaper and Destiny-Hero Malicious.  This is the case and has been the case ever since cards were introduced that allowed players to think about dependability and resource management.  If Yu-Gi-Oh has taught us anything it is that the small will thrive due their ability to generate quick resources as well as providing stability/card advantage without any major payment.  Light and Darkness Dragon is the first level 8 monster in the history of this game to justify such mainstream acceptance and to turn this proven idea upside down.  The last Shonen Jump demonstrated this when 3 of the top 4 decks ran 2 LADD each.  This monster has single handily resulted in D.D. Crow's abundant appearance as well as accomplishing one of the quickest metagame shifts concerning deck theory.  The reason for all this results from his ability to control what cards your opponent is playing while also being capable of replacing itself on the field once it does its job, all rolled up into the body of a serious monster stat wise.  Thus with this said I have begun experimenting with this awesome card.

The last SJC I do not believe represented enough creativity concerning the dragon.  I must agree (since I can not disprove it in my current position) that Destiny Dragon is the way to go.  Who am I to argue with the likes of Fili Luna and Jerry Wang?  This last jump demonstrated the future of this game, it also reemphasized issues discussed in my previous articles about who will win.   (Almost all of the top 16 have topped in multiple jumps throughout various parts of the country.  Crush Card Virus also dictated many games as well!)  Nonetheless, this gathering of players has not gambled enough in my opinion.  They have ignored the synergy of Foolish Burial and forgotten why Zombie decks dominated in the pre-LADD era.  I now present to my readers three alternative ways to utilize one of the greatest monsters ever made.

Each of these decks play in different ways.  Obviously the first and third are more aggressive.  The third one expanding off the ideas of my last article, accept this time around utilizing the dragon and multiple draw engines.  The second deck plays more like a combo deck.  One of the things that bothered me about the last jump was a complete disregard
to Manticore of Darkness.  Foolish Burial allows for the activation of his summoning effect.  Raiza, Nimble Momonga, Baboon, etc. all allow for his summoning requirement to be met.  Card of Safe Return allows for an infinite draw loop, thus guaranteeing the right cards will hit your hand for game.  Plus he has 2300 attack which is more than enough to get around many obstacles.  I am kinda curious about dropping the dragon from the second deck and running some form of dark world beast control.  I figure that using the manticore draw loop will allow me to develop a large hand which in turn will give me Card Destruction and thus an instant win.  This being accomplished via Heavy Storm, Monster removal, and a field of 2300 fiends hitting the field.  Obviously this is another idea for a different time, but still cool to think about.

I invite each of my readers to dabble with these ideas.  I would love feedback concerning your opinions on the decks as well as recommendations you all have tested that either improved or hurt each ones reliability.

I am currently testing an Exodia OTK deck (an advanced version of the one posted on metagame last week) as well as looking for ways to make Dark Magician OTK more dependable.  If anyone has suggestions do not hesitate in responding A.S.A.P.

If anyone is looking to trade, I am currently interested in ultimate rare Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, Volcanic Shell, Nimble Momongas of any kind, as well as the cards posted on the bottom of my last article.

As always, I can be contacted at Tebezu@gmail.com
