Tebezu on YuGiOh
TWILIGHT: Ambiguous & Obscure
March 23, 2011

It's been a minute since I last posted on Pojo & a lot has happened since I last contributed! If you're an old fan interested in what I've been up to, check out www.humanpuppet.com & www.dotheellen.com. If you're someone who would like to trade (I really want to play a Dragunity Deck) or have unique deck ideas feel free to email me at: Tebezu@gmail.com or add me on Facebook at: Forest Humanpuppet Thomer if ya wanna be my friend!

I've recently started playing Yu-Gi-Oh at a local library. A few months ago I was watching some kids play & started teaching them about game mechanics. A month or so later there was a tournament held at the library, which I ended up placing second in due to a lost via a Gadget deck summoning Chimeratech Fortress Dragon. In all honesty I had no idea such a monster existed. Losing not only the match, but losing my Cyber Dragon, Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive, & Card Trooper for a 3,000 direct hit. It was wielded by a good player, needless to say to date I've consistently beat that player in a very brutal fashion. When it comes to Yu-Gi-Oh, you got to let everyone know whose boss! His Six Samurai losing to my Stealth Bird/Lava Golem/Chaos deck hybrid being the highlight of such beatings! All trash talk aside, he's a cool guy who also happens to be one of the most creative deck archetype creators I've had the pleasure of running into! :)

Anyways, a friend started running a small Yu-Gi-Oh tournament each week out of his church, & I must admit being re-introduced to the culture has resulted in an itch derived from this twilight state. As a person who hasn't checked out this game in over 2 yrs, who at one time was the 2nd ranked player in his state among other accomplishments; including competing at a national level & winning his first play set of Destiny Draw's from the world's first Three Time Shonen Jump Champion, I'm goin to have to say that I'm both excited about the current metagame & a little bewildered. Old school mechanics of plus & minus advantage still seem to hold true, but over extension seems to be the way of the game. Over extension seems to persist in every game I've witnessed as of late, despite the presence of cards like Black Rose Dragon, Dark Hole, Judgement Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon, & a plethora of other mass destruction cards. I assume this is due to Heavy Storm no longer being a threat & the advent of new control cards, such as Solemn Warning & Starlight Road, which prevent 2 for 1 capitalization off the summon of monsters like Mobius the Frost Monarch. What is even weirder to me is the realization of multiple Treeborn Frog's, D.D. Warrior Ladies, & triple Breaker the Magical Warrior. The idea of people being able to run 3 Breaker the Magical Warrior & recognizing that nobody runs any is confusing to me. Breaker is hands down one of the best monsters this game has ever produced. Maybe there is something I'm missing out on, but I know that nothing makes me smile more than seeing forced Bottomless Trap Hole's & Solemn Warning's on Breaker, only to capitalize off a needed special summon.

I'm also surprised to see Gravekeeper's running rampant & nobody using cards like Nobleman of Crossout or any dark world tech? What's even more confusing is realizing that nobody seems to be fusing dark world with Gravekeeper's. I understand some decks don't need to run facedown removal due to it being built in w their monsters, but w dandy tokens & countless other plus defensive cards being set, if you your deck isn't running a BOSS monster who blows up the field, run Nobleman!

It's no surprise to me to observe Pot of Duality as the newest money card, but for the most part I'm pretty happy with how the game looks. The idea of basically every card being released as a common or in an easy to obtain print has transformed this game into something it should of been the whole time. But the biggest shock to me & one that brings the biggest smile to my face is finally being able to touch cards like Judgment Dragon, Lyla, Honest, Dark Armed Dragon, & many others for $5.00. I'm also ecstatic to be able to run 3 Chaos Sorcerer. When I last saw a serious tournament scene, Dark Armed Dragon was ran at 3 & cost around $150.00 or more to own. A tournament worthy Lightsworn Deck would cost easily over $1,000.00! So to finally have access to these cards has made me warm & fuzzy all over! With all this said, here is a deck that I've been having a lot of success with locally!

This deck blazes through itself amazingly quick, setting up huge field swarms while also being able to maintain control of the field! What I've noticed is that Honest doesn't actually need to be ran bc people always assume you're running it. What's even cooler is the idea that people seem to be running double digit trap cards, so Royal Decree guarantees you capitalize off your Lyla & Breakers while also setting up huge swings w either Chaos Sorcerer or Dark Armed Dragon. Royal Decree also assist you in removing annoying Royal Oppression plays.

Upstart Goblin is one of those cards that has grown on me as I've aged as a player. It just makes sense the more I look at it! Personally I don't understand why more gravekeeper, samurai, blackwing, & countless other decks are not using it. The card provides a bit of speed to already established combo decks that are gaining advantage off Pot of Duality.

Gorz the Emissary of Darkness & Tragoedia are simply amazing. These monsters allow you to always have an offensive & defensive option despite the state of the field. Furthermore, they allow for you to clear the field & are truly win conditions in themselves. What's really amazing is when you pull a Yugi and someone swarms the field hitting your Morphing Jar, popping one of them into your hand, disrupting the onslaught. Or when ya Monster Reincarnation a Gorz just daring your opponent to make a move. Chaos Sorcerer is just cream on an already delicious entree. It allows you to swarm, removes threats, & draws out threats. No player is going to allow you to continue to capitalize off his effect. Thus summoning Chaos Sorcerer adds versatility & a guarantee that your BOSS monsters will stay around for a bit.

While we're talking about Morphing Jar, I honestly would think more players would be using it. The monster is both a disruptive and advantageous engine. It allows you to set up huge swings, over extend, & comeback from losing situations. It also transforms dead draw openings into huge explosive OTK's, setting up Chaos Sorcerer, Dark Armed Dragon, & Judgement Dragon.

Overall, this deck is really fast, consistent, & contains multiple win conditions all in a tight little package. I urge everyone to give it a try & let me know what they think.

* If you have a really cool deck concept or are interested in trading, email me at Tebezu@gmail.com or message me on facebook at Forest Humanpuppet Thomer!

I really want to put together a Dragunity deck & outside of the starter decks, don't have any of the Dragunity cards! I'm also looking for new age variants of Demise OTK & personally would like to have a go at a six samurai, gladiator beast, & a scrap deck! So message me & let me know what you're looking for! Until next time, follow your dreams & make something happen!
