Tebezu on
YuGiOh
691 in attendance
and I placed 79.
The sad part being
that I lost my games
due to Call of the
Haunted, Pot of
Avarice, and
Premature Burial in
my opening hand with
no monster draws in
7 turns or discarded
via a trooper
effect. The Good
being that I beat
Emon Ghaneian in a
bet and won his
Destiny Draw with a
2-0 victory using
gadgets. Overall
nationals was a fun
and rewarding
experience. To go
into an event like
that and know that
the only reason I
lost was due to bad
draws makes me feel
as if I accomplished
something. The fact
I was able to play
against the best
players in the
nation and hold my
own is a rewarding
confidence builder.
I have now
demonstrated to
myself and my close
friends that I have
what it takes to be
among the best
players in the game
and be successful.
All in all I can
promise all of my
fans to look forward
to hearing of future
success.
While at nationals
I met the number
one player in North
America, Evan
Dawson. I have to
say that his insight
into the game and
ability to predict
the metagame offered
me a lot of help in
preparing for the
tournament. He
introduced me to a
number of OTK's that
would likely show
up. For all of his
help
and distinguished
demeanor I'd have to
say that Yu-Gi-Oh's
most consistent
player is anything
but a stereotyped
winner. He openly
provides advice,
offers help, and is
the kind of guy who
has no problem
informing you how to
make a better move.
I'm glad to have met
him and hope to see
him in the future.
In case he is
reading this I want
him to know that I
am both proud and
honored to have him
as a friend. Thanks
for all your help.
While attending I
noticed that Brain
Control (as
mentioned by myself
many times) was the
defining card of the
tournament. Many
people, including
myself, have horror
stories involving
this cards ability
to push for damage.
I expect that it
along with each
monarch will be
restricted to one on
the next ban-list as
a result.
Gadget Decks were
not really being
used. The American
Yu-Gi-Oh scene has
never really offered
much support to the
little stop light
machines. Machines
on the other hand
have been an
archetype we've
loved due to their OTK
potential,
aggressive control.
and ability to
manipulate both the
hand and field. The
entire event was
filled with Machine
Duplication and
Triple Card
Trooper. Trooper is
a good card but is
no place near
overpowered. His
desirability is the
result of his
ability to make
other archetypes
(remove, Monarch,
Machine, etc.) more
consistent. I have
personally tried to
use the Machine
Duplication combo
but have found it
inconsistent. Other
players (especially
those stacker's)
find it a perfect
combo.
While there I played
against Perfect
Circle, Machine OTK,
Perfect Circle, Dark
World, Crush Card
Virus Control,
Gadget, Crush Card
Virus Control,
Monarch Hydrogeddon,
Warrior Earth
Beatdown, and more
of the same (not in
this particular
order). I believe
my best game
involved a first
turn confiscation
and hitting my
opponents in hand
Crush Card. Holding
that card in my hand
really made me
jealous, I
personally look
forward to using it
with Cyberdarks.
I've been running a
machine deck similar
to the one Matt
Peddle ran in Canada
for awhile now. Yet
I included copies of
Shrink and
Hyrdrogeddon in my
deck. For nationals
I believed to face
more gadget decks
than I did and
expected perfect
circle to be
rampant. I was
correct with PCM
thus I had a lot of
advantage against
most of my
opponents. I
ran two trooper as
a result of his
uselessness against
gadgets and PCM. I
felt that I should
run trooper do to
all the work I had
to do to get a hold
of two (I
actually painted a
Dump Truck for my
dad in order to buy
one and fixed a
water leak for my
brothers BFF's MOM
to pay for two of my
three troopers)
Spy was ran in
threes to prevent
the Boston event and
to also aid in
tribute/defense
fodder. Cyber
Dragon is at two do
to field
presence issues.
All I needed was
one win to be in top
16 contention, that
was all that
separated me in
round 9. If I had
more then a hand of
traps in that game
Jinzo would not have
been the issue he
was. Many players
have been half and
half regarding
Morphing Jar. I
figure he to be the
best monster in the
game right now.
With PCM and so many
gadget decks popping
up the little rock
monster has the
ability to both
reset the hand and
put a defensive
player at a loss.
The feeling of
defeat hurts but
knowing that I was
correct in most of
my assumptions
provides some
relief.
Most importantly I
would like to offer
my deepest gratitude
towards my roommates
Abel (received his
invite from SJC
Houston running
triple drop off and
airknight) and
Anthony ( a man who
is obsessed with
macro cosmos). I
want to publicly
thank them both for
their generous
attitude because if
not for them I would
not have eaten or
playtested. Many
thanks go out to
these guys. I look
forward to seeing
both of them in the
future at other
premiere events.

All in all the event
was well ran and
smooth. I look
forward to attending
next year.
With all that said
it is time for me to
learn from my
observation. Having
just traded my
fourth D-Hero
Malicious off for an
Ultimate Pegasus, 2x
Rare Value, Disc
Commander, and 2x
Winged Rhynos I
believe I should put
some of my trade
fodder into action.
I've been messing
around with the
following deck for a
few days now and
think it has some
potential. While at
nationals I beat a
few PCM due to their
hand being filled
with Malicious. I
had a friend who
went 6-4 running PCM
using no Malicious.
Thus I was curious
how well it would
run. The following
deck needs your
advice. It draws
ridiculously
(sometimes 5 or more
cards in a turn).
The issue I am
having with it is
utilizing my huge
hand. I hate
watching players sit
back and discard a
smashing
ground/brain control
due to a huge hand
instead of setting
it. This deck has
to do this or over
extend just to keep
its hand size around
6 most of the time.
I offer my readers a
chance to improve
upon a deck I
believe to be better
than most. If
anyone wants to
talk, needs help, or
can improve this
deck send me an
email at
