Before I get into the
article I think it is
only fair to explain
both to my fans and pojo
alike why I have
remained absent.
Between multiple
girlfriends, college
classes, my favorite
flea market burning to
the ground, developing a
killer six-pack,
numerous entrepreneur
endeavors, college,
being kicked out of all
the local Yu-Gi-Oh
tournaments (a.k.a. I'm
bad for business), more
girls, work, and the
blatant movement of Yu-Gi-Oh
being a game between the
haves and have nots, I
have neither had the
time,
,
or drive to be part of
this game. In my
absence I have noticed a
cool trend take place at
the top tables.
Diversity has finally
been produced. Our
metagame is no longer
stale. We will
never again go into a
tournament expecting to
play the same deck
throughout the day.
Old and new archetypes
alike have been given
usable support.
The game has gotten back
too its roots of
explosive turns and
quick defeats.
But, If I've said it
once, I've said it a
thousand times.
Yu-Gi-Oh is a rich man's
game. Despite the
diversity that exists,
unless you have a killer
bank account to help
obtain the countless
killer cards out there,
your only going to be
able to dream of taking
part in the fun.
For further proof of
this take a quick gander
at
metagame.com and see if
the same people are
still winning.
Tell me if the same
people are not making
top 16 over and over.
No matter how bad you
want to disagree with
me, you know I'm right.
I have nothing against
the rich who play this
game. I am both
impressed and awestruck
by their dedication and
determination. To
add up the expense of
their decks alone is
impressive, but to
realize every two weeks
they fly/drive to some
distant destination,
book a hotel, and feed
themselves all in the
wake of increasing fuel
prices is truly
marvelous to a poor peon
like myself. Just
when things get more
fun, they get more
expensive. Crush
Card Virus finally
having made its way into
the hands of the average
duelist has dropped in
value from being worth
multiple thousands of
dollars to a mere three
hundred. Dark
Armed Dragon has been
priced from
$150.00-$300.00 dollars.
Judgement Dragon is the
king of a cool new
archetype, Gladiator
Beast have dominated
tournaments yet without
their $150.00 fusion
they're worthless, even
random secret rares that
have cool potential such
as Tualatin fall into
the sixty dollar price
range. All this
makes me both happy and
sad. I rejoice to
finally see this games
developers creating
cards that allow us to
play new things, but am
saddened that I am too
poor to take part.
That was until...
Plants are truly
remarkable organisms.
Being a stationary
creature they must face
drastic changes in
climate and atmospheric
disturbance. They
have overcome countless
issues concerning the
terrestrial life.
Without the ability to
move they can sexually
reproduce, defend
themselves against
predation, compete with
numerous pathogens,
store water, make food,
and shape ecosystems.
It is hypothesized that
biogenic volatile
organic compounds
(BVOCs) released into
the atmosphere via
plants may play some
role in global
temperature, thus
effecting the current
state of global warming
(1). Some
major bioorganic
chemistry research is
being done to look into
the exact mechanisms a
Lima bean (Phaseolus
lunatus)
biosynthesizes
phytohormones which warn
neighboring plants of
interfering herbivores,
pathogens, and can even
attract predatory
insects such as wasps to
deal with pesky
caterpillars which may
be munching on the Lima
bean leafs(2).
With this said, what we
should be taking away is
that plants are pretty
cool!
Yu-Gi-Oh
has not given much love
to this archetype until
recently. For the
most part, the thought
of even running a plant
outside of Mystic Tomato
was a laughable offense.
That was until the
release of Gigaplant.
Coming right behind the
countless successes of
il blud, players took a
hard look at this
monster. They
wondered, what a great
card, if only there was
some decent support to
abuse him with.
Then, Lonefire Blossom
was born. With
this monster came an OTK
deck capable of
competing with the
current metagame trends.
The issue with our
current metagame,
despite how expensive it
is to play in, is that
it is just so fast.
One turn you may have
both hand and field
advantage and your
opponent top decks into
one of many draw cards.
These turn into some
explosive combo and you
lose. If you want
to win you have to have
to do so fast. The
reason I am about to
focus on the following
deck is because it is
capable of erupting at
any point winning the
duel, stealing victory
just as quickly as the
other top notch decks
out there and unlike
them, you can build this
deck for less than
thirty dollars easy.
With this I present to
you all, The
Happening!...
The Happening!

I've been looking
through the forums and
have noticed many
weakness coming from
players who have
attempted this deck.
To many have focused on
using plant and insect
support, some run Doom
Dozer, and alot of them
fail to take into
account how quickly we
want to win the duel.
Basically all you really
want is something to
clear the field making
an attack successful.
In order for this to be
obtained all we really
need to win the duel is
a Card of Safe Return
and a Lonefire Blossom.
These two cards
successfully combo into
a draw loop of sorts
that allows access to
almost every card we
need to win the duel.
Magical Mallet allows us
to take advantage of
huge hands to further
mill through our deck to
come into contact with
these needed cards.
Once we get access to a
Lonefire Blossom and a
Card of Safe Return we
use the blossom's effect
to search our deck for
another blossom, to
search our deck for
another blossom, to
search our deck for
another blossom, to
search our deck for a
gigaplant, to special
summon a blossom from
our graveyard, to
special summon a
gigaplant, to special
summon a blossom, to
special summon a
gigaplant, etc. If
all else fails we have a
back up plan via
Blazewing Butterfly and
Dragon's Mirror.
Blazewing Butterfly can
be special summoned for
tribute fodder via his
effect, to summon
Gigaplant, which can
then summon the
butterfly, which in turn
can summon another
gigaplant, etc.
All of these combos can
be pulled off within the
first turn. To top
everything off the deck
runs Monster Reborn,
three Swing of Memories,
and Premature Burial.
Thus having access to
this combo and the
string of events needed
to swarm our field with
big beaters is
relatively easy.
Future Fusion aids us
both in deck thinning as
well as grants access to
a very weird dragon
fusion, who can also be
summoned via Dragon's
Mirror when put into a
bad situation. The
side deck allows us to
switch into a different
version of this OTK.
Basically we follow the
same principles as
described above to get
Gigaplant on the field.
We then use Mass Driver
to generate an infinite
loop of burn damage.
I really think a deck
like this is worth
looking into. I'm
confident that it has
all the needed
necessities to overcome
many of the top tier
decks. The best
attribute, outside of
the use of many
underused cards, is the
fact it is dirt cheap.
Hopefully you all take
this advice and see what
happens.
As always, I can be
contacted at
Tebezu@gmail.com
if anyone wants to talk
or trade.
I look forward to
hearing all of your
concerns and critiques.
I'd also appreciate any
heads up you all have
concerning the current
metagame. I'd
offer to help you with
deck advice, but as
mentioned I have not
been playing right now.
Maybe one of my
billionaire schemes will
take root and I can
become a real life Seto
Kaiba. Maybe I'll
get lucky and a
fortunate fan will feel
my pain and offer to
sponsor me . But
hopefully, all of you
can take some of what
was discussed here to
heart. I hope you
will recognize a cheap
out and abuse it.
I hope you will continue
to look for the
underplayed and flaunt
it. But most
importantly, I hope you
all become fascinated
with the world we live
in and recognize the
countless unique
qualities it has to
offer you. Both in
a figurative and literal
sense.
