RESUME: http://www.humanpuppet.com/blog/resume/ I
haven’t played a
competitive game of
Yu-Gi-Oh in so long.
Due to the release of a
new Blue-Eyes White
Dragon structure deck
and a local tournament
near me, I can’t resist
any longer. Dear
old followers/fans, I
feel ancient, but that
didn’t stop me from
taking second place and
first place the last 2
weeks at my current
local. I use to be the 2nd
ranked player in my
state, so I kind of know
something about Yu-Gi-Oh
other than how annoying
having collections upon
collections of metal
card tins sitting around
can be. Seriously,
what do you do with tons
of metal tins?
A pound of aluminum
sells for about $0.94
which means if somehow
we were all able to
collect 100,000 pounds
of Yu-Gi-Oh tins we
could probably buy an
Elephant or put a few
kids through college or
have one hell of a night
at a strip club in Las
Vegas. Anyway….
They’re so many new
cards, so many new
strategies, new rules,
game mechanics and
support cards I’ve never
heard of. Despite
this obvious handicap,
card advantage is and
will always be the key
to winning competitive
duels.
Regardless of people’s
opinions on the current
metagame, Yu-Gi-Oh
doesn’t look like it
could be any more fun
than it is right now. If I
have a vice in life,
it’s Yu-Gi-Oh…. At
my core I’m a duelist, a
wizard. I enjoy casting
spells & watching
dragons explosively
decimate my opponent’s
life points all in the
name of glory and blood. As
nerdy as it sounds very
few things bring the
kind of satisfaction in
life like the summoning
of a Blue-Eyes White
Dragon. One night
stands, parties, reading
newspaper articles about
yourself & even watching
yourself on TV…nothing
strokes a man’s
ego, at least this man’s
ego or feels as good as
saying, “Blue-Eyes White
Dragon attack!!!” and
imagining Seto
Kaiba giving you a nod
of approval.
Regardless, the past 2
weeks I’ve attended a
local tournament,
securing a respectful 2nd
& 1st place
standing with the
following deck.
I’d totally of had two
first place finishes if
it wasn’t for some
random trap card called
Sixth Sense an E-Dragon
deck used against me in
our third duel…The fact
a card like Sixth Sense
is legal, I thought
about punching my
opponent as they spammed
the field and summoned a
Mecha Phantom Beast
Dracossack off a Sixth
Sense dump….Anyway I
present, It’s
Time to DUEL!!! (40)
Monsters (14) 2x
Maxx “c” Spells
(14) 3x
Terraforming Traps
(12) 3x
Call of the Haunted Extra
Deck (15) 1x
Star Eater Side
Deck (15) 3x
Electric Virus I
don’t think I’ve ever
seen the kind of
diversity in Yu-Gi-Oh
like I have the past
couple weeks at my
local. I played
against a Constellar
deck, which I’d totally
play myself if I had two
more Sombres. That
was one of my favorite
wins which I simply
credit to outplaying my
opponent who thought he
could capitalize off his
exceed monsters, never
expecting cards like
Penguin Soldier and Call
of the Haunted to be
used against them.
The look on their face
when I used Dark Hole
after synchro summoning
my Dragunity Dux that
had its effect negated
by an Effect Veiler my
previous turn with an in
hand/searched Dragunity
Phalanx, protecting my
Stardust Spark Dragon
with a Forbidden Lance,
using Spark Dragon’s
effect to save it from
some fire ferret card,
Call of the Haunted into
Dragunity Phalanx for a
synchro summon into
Trident Dragon…OTK in
your face. Don’t
talk smack!!! I
played against a
Madolche deck, which my
spell & trap removal
pretty much crippled.
That player wasn’t
expecting D.D. Warrior
Lady to come in from my
side deck either.
I think Madolches are
stupid, I don’t care if
they become a number one
deck, I will never play
a game about priests,
spellcasters, fiends,
dragons, warriors and
monsters of all kinds
with pastry chefs.
The E-Dragon Skill Drain
deck was the only one to
defeat me that was a
three round game. I beat
them with a Trident
Dragon push one game.
It took me a minute to
realize that most people
aren’t really running
heavy back row and are
depending on hand traps
and monster effects to
keep their field
presence hoping to get
an OTK. Anyway I
lost to a first turn
summon of Crimson Blader
onto a Dux who had its
effect negated & an epic
Sixth Sense play.
I’m still impressed with
the fact I was able to
summon a Blue-Eyes White
Dragon off a Compulsory
Evacuation Device I
chained to my Maiden
with Eyes of Blue after
he activated a Skill
Drain in Response to my
Forbidden Lance. I
played against a fire
deck & a few other weird
things. I was
really impressed when I
played against a
Hieratic Dragon deck.
Needless to say I went
to eBay & bought the
skeleton of that deck
with 2 Atums because
Hieratic Dragons are
just so cool, especially
with all the normal
monster and dragon
support the new
Blue-Eyes White Dragon
structure deck brought
to the game. I’ve
been chewing on so many
Hieratic Dragon ideas
and kind of want to see
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon
make a return to play.
I kind of would love to
see some of your weird
ideas for Hieratic
Dragon decks, personally
the fact Wingbeat of
Giant Dragon is a
splashable combo card
now…EPIC!!! The
fact a Blue-Eyes White
Dragon can be special
summoned from your
hand, deck, or
graveyard…Like
seriously, broken!!! I’m
really surprised how
many people aren’t
taking advantage of Call
of the Haunted.
Personally, in any
flavor of a Dragunity
deck backbone,
especially now that I
got my E-Dragon tins,
Call of the Haunted is
like added flavor on top
of flavor. Bring
back a Stardust Dragon,
bring back a Scrap
Dragon, it special
summons my Azure-Eyes
Silver Dragon…It’s a
defensive and offensive
option with a lot of
utility when you’re
dealing with a graveyard
of boss monsters.
Plus, lots of players
are over extending like
crazy…nothing seems to
rain on somebodies
parade like after they
think they have game &
have to get through Call
of the Haunted plays.
I can’t believe Call
of the Haunted is at
three in a format where
Heavy Storm is banned,
seriously, like
seriously…
Anyway, I’m looking
forward to getting back
into the world of
dueling somewhat more
when time permits it
between all of my
current endeavors.
Regardless, if you have
a cool deck idea or
would like to trade
cards hit me up.
Feel free to email me at
Tebezu@gmail.com or
contact me via twitter
or Facebook. I’d
really like to try out a
Hieratic Dragon deck, a
Crystal Beast Deck, a
Codarus water deck, an
iswarm deck, or whatever
crazy ideas you have
floating around.
Until next time… |
