Deck Fix 1: Uria Burn Deck
by TheDungeonMaster

June 5, 2006

The name is Christopher Johnson from Birmingham, AL.  The current meta here is basically the same as all around, CC decks with slight variations and Cyber Stein OTK decks.  To combat these crackheaded threat, I have been trying to come up with ideas for wierd decks (since those are my favorites) to combat them without pulling too much out of my dwindling budget.  I thought maybe burn decks could get them down since they are fast and lethal w/o having to attack, my preferred style of dueling.  But I had a thought, could I build a deck that attacks and burns at the same time?  I searched and found two cards that do this, Needle Burrower and Ka 2 Des Scissors.  Been playtesting this deck and has run pretty well. Not all bad but not the best and sometime has bad topdecks but overall good.

Monsters: 23
Jinzo x1
Uria, Lord of Searing Flames x1
Immortal of Thunder x1
Needle Burrower x3
Breaker the Magical Warrior x1
D.D. Warrior Lady x1
Mother Grizzly x3
Invader of the Throne x2
Tsukuyomi x1
Ka 2 Des Scissors x1
Sangan x1
Magician of Faith x2
Koitsu x2
Ameba x2
Treeborn Frog x1

Magic: 13
Graceful Charity x1
Reasoning x1
Pot of Avarice x1
Giant Trunade x1
Mystic Box x3
Creature Swap x2
Shien’s Spy x2
Heavy Storm x1
Mystical Space Typhoon x1
Premature Burial x1

Traps: 8
Gravity Bind x1
Mirror Force x1
Dust Tornado x1
Magic Cylinder x1
Mirror Wall x2
Call of the Haunted x1
Ordeal of the Traveler x1

Basically the idea of this deck is to get out Needle Burrower out and punish the opponent for having high level, low attack monsters, which I give him. The traps are there to bring out Uria and then give it to the opponent. Seeing as its effect powers itself up for every continuous trap in mine or their graveyard (if is on their side of the field) and most of the time the most an opponent has is one, I think this punishment is horrible, especially since I pulled off a full 6700 damage with him on one turn. Reasoning is there for draw power and for all the high level tribute mons. Ameba there for the added burn and effect. Immortal there to raise LP and give to opp. and guess wht I do to it over there? That gives the opp 5000 damage and 6000 LP to me if done right. The rest is for protection, m/t removal, revival, the normal.  Right now, I do not have a sidedeck.  I am trying to get the bugs out of this deck before considering sidedecking anything.  What do you think?

Ok, this was the first deck I got in my inbox today, so I think it’s best if I help this user out. Overall, it’s a different deck. Nice fix with Uria. In my eyes, there is only a few things to do with this deck, so first, lets take a good look at the monsters.

Monsters: 23
Jinzo x1
Uria, Lord of Searing Flames x1
Immortal of Thunder x1
Needle Burrower x3
Breaker the Magical Warrior x1
D.D. Warrior Lady x1
Mother Grizzly x3
Invader of the Throne x2
Tsukuyomi x1
Ka 2 Des Scissors x1
Sangan x1
Magician of Faith x2
Koitsu x2
Ameba x2
Treeborn Frog x1

23 Monsters may seen a bit much, but its about what I use. I use 21-22 in my decks, so 23 is good in my eyes.

First of all, the user said that he needed some more burns in here. He said if done right, he can do about 5,000 points of damage to the opponent. We can use some of my favorite monsters, Cannon Solder. One or two in this deck would be great.

Lets say he wants to use two of them…

-1 Immortal of Thunder

-1 Mother Grizzly

+2 Cannon Soldier

Here, he can add more burn affects the fun way.

I like his monster line up, but he’s free to change it anyway he wants. Now lets take a look at his Spells.

Magic: 13
Graceful Charity x1
Reasoning x1
Pot of Avarice x1
Giant Trunade x1
Mystic Box x3
Creature Swap x2
Shien’s Spy x2
Heavy Storm x1
Mystical Space Typhoon x1
Premature Burial x1

Ok, I’m going to be honest… I’m not a big fan of Creature Swap. So lets look at that too.

-2 Creature Swap

+2 Brain Control

Brain Control will still have him take a monster, and able to summon up his Needle Burrower.

Another fix that will be needed for this deck:

-1 Mystic Box

-1 Shien’s Spy

+1 Limiter Removal

+1 Scapegoat

Ok, so that is the Spells, now lets take a look at the Traps:

Traps: 8
Gravity Bind x1
Mirror Force x1
Dust Tornado x1
Magic Cylinder x1
Mirror Wall x2
Call of the Haunted x1
Ordeal of the Traveler x1

Only one thing to do here. I’m not a big fan of Mirror Wall here, so lets look at this:

-2 Mirror Wall

+1 Dust Tornado

+1 Ordeal of the Traveler

All cards I suggested to take out I would side deck. I like the original build, but these are just my opinions. You can like ‘em or hate ‘em, its your call.

I hope you like that fix. I am starting to get a lot of decks in, but I am working as hard as I can, so please be patient.
