Way Back When… Way Back When…
Way back… way, way back… to when Yu-Gi-Oh first came out… it was a happier time. The show came out, and we always wanted to play just like the characters.. and the legendary booster came out: The Legend of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, along with 2 awesome starter decks – Yugi and Kaiba.
Remember those times? I sure do. I remember always getting up on Saturday, watching the show, and leaving for my local store and played until about 4. I remember wanting to get their first on weekends to get the newest booster pack. I wanted to get all the best cards to put into my deck. What was my deck? The forgotten word: BEATDOWN.
Remember those? Yeah, like running THESE cards in 3’s? Harpie’s Brother La Jinn, the Mystical Genie of the Lamp 7-Colored Fish
And running the 1-tribute staple called Summoned Skull?
Remember that?
Lets start out with a set called Pharaoh’s Servant. What mystical card came out that was so rare? I’ll tell you – Jinzo. THE card to have for all YuGiOh players.
Lets go on a little further to a new set called Labyrinth of Nightmare.
We were grazed with two future staple cards … the secret rare, 4-star 1900 attack Gemini Elf, and the powerful Magic Cylinder Trap card.
Remember when we wanted to get those? And they were once the Charizard’s of YuGiOh at one point, going to up about $70-$90 each? And that was just unlimited…
A little further now…
Remember this set? Legacy of Darkness. The first set to show off the Warriors and Dragons – two of the newest, and most powerful cards ever. Marauding Captain, anyone?
And lets not forget these 2 gems: Injection Fairy Lily and Yata-Garasu. Both were extremely strong cards that looked weak, but packed a serious punch.
Pharaonic Guardian was next, and one of its ultras was rarer then its two secrets: Don Zaloog. Remember him?
The last set I will be talking about today – and the most talked about one. Do you remember it? It’s called Invasion of Chaos. What did it bring us? Cards like Black Luster Soldier, Envoy of the Beginning, and Chaos Emperor Dragon – Envoy of the End
Duelists wanted both cards to put in their deck for the ultimate and strongest ever – both cards fetching up over $100 each.
As we get older – as well as the game of YuGiOh, we must remember all the fun we had in the old days.
I guess some old Duelists like myself can not only talk about old Nick shows like Hey Arnold and Kenan and Kel, but just how fun the old game of Duel Monsters REALLY was played.
