Serious Decks: Rescue Rabbit
July 23, 2012

I have been receiving a healthy amount of feedback on my articles as of late, with much of it being requests to talk more about competitive decks and playing them.  As luck would have it, I'm being a sheep at the moment and playing what many consider a 'netdeck'.  I fugured that each time I change to a netdeck I'll try to make an article about it to help the community as a whole become more educated on the ins and outs of the bigger decks.
So, here is my current take on Dino-Rabbits:

Dino Rabbits
As suggested by Sean Handy

Monsters
3 Rescue Rabbit
3 Sabersaurus
3 Kabazauls
3 Tourguide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
2 Effect Veiler
1 Gorz
1 Spirit Reaper
1 Thunder King Rai-Oh
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole

Spells
1 Dark Hole
1 Forbidden Lance
1 Forbidden Chalice
1 Monster Reborn
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Mind Control
1 Book of Moon
1 Heavy Storm
1 Pot of Avarice

Traps
1 Solemn Judgment
2 Solemn Warning
1 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Fiendish Chain
2 Dimensional Prison
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Mirror Force
1 Starlight Road
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device

Extra deck
2 Evolzar Dolkka
2 Evolzar Laggia
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Number C39: Utopia Ray
1 Gem-Knight Pearl
1 Photon Papilloperative
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Ally of Justice Catastor
1 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Stardust Dragon

Side Deck
1 D. D. Crow
2 Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror
1 Victoria
1 Effect Veiler
1 Gellenduo
3 Maxx "c"
3 Macro Cosmos
1 The Transmigration Prophecy
1 Forbidden Chalice
1 Soul Taker

Now, let me break down why some of my card choices are what they are.

Monsters
3 Rescue Rabbit
3 Sabersaurus
3 Kabazauls
3 Tourguide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
2 Effect Veiler
1 Gorz
1 Spirit Reaper
1 Thunder King Rai-Oh
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole

-3 Rescue Rabbit
-3 Sabersaurus
-3 Kabazauls
-3 Tourguide from the Underworld
-1 Sangan
These are pretty standard, I don't think I need to explain them

-2 Effect Veiler
I am only playing two because Wind-ups aren't very prevalent in my meta.  I always end up playing them in the top four or finals, but, at locals you will see so many random decks that Effect Veiler just isn't very good against, that, and, it is pretty bad against Chaos Dragons

-1 Gorz
Wins games by itself, standard.

-1 Spirit Reaper
Great wall, and, if you have the game basically locked down with 'Zar, then you can just strip their hand away with reaper.  Very useful

-1 Thunder King Rai-oh
Maindeck hate for dragons, all around good card as well.

-1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole
See Above.  Also good at stopping your opponents from making big plays against your dudes.

Spells
1 Dark Hole
1 Forbidden Lance
1 Forbidden Chalice
1 Monster Reborn
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Mind Control
1 Book of Moon
1 Heavy Storm
1 Pot of Avarice

-1 Dark Hole
-1 Monster Reborn
-1 Mind Control
-1 Heavy Storm
-1 Pot of Avarice
-1 Book of Moon

Standard

-1 Forbidden Chalice
I like the singleton copy because it can be used during the damage step, so it is great at negating Gellenduo and Ryko.

-1 Forbidden Lance
I like having the protection for Laggia, but, without Guaibas it is hard to justify playing too many copies

-2 Mystical Space Typhoon
A lot of builds play a singleton, but, because I'm mostly on locals at the moment, you get baddies that blind MST, so it leads to a lot of +1's to have the additional copy.

Traps
1 Solemn Judgment
2 Solemn Warning
1 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Fiendish Chain
2 Dimensional Prison
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Mirror Force
1 Starlight Road
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device

-1 Solemn Judgment
-2 Solemn Warning
Standard

-1 Bottomless
-2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
With priority gone, it is pretty obvious that both of these cards spiked in popularity.  I think that Compulsory is a bit better at the moment because of Inzektors and Wind-ups being on the map, but, I like having a mix of three right now in regards to priority-stoppers.

-2 Fiendish Chain
Better against Chaos Dragons than effect veiler.  Also does other little things.  I've though about cutting one of these for the third veiler.  If I were going to a big event, I probably would.

-2 Dimensional Prison
Good card in trap-heavy decks, but, especially good against Chaos Dragons.

-1 Starlight Road
If you are playing Dino-Rabbits, PLAY THIS CARD.  It is just fantastic in this deck because a lot of times players will trying to bait your laggia activation via dark hole or Torrential.  Starlight road basically wins you the game if it goes off.  It's just more negation, as if your Evolzars weren't enough yet.  I was iffy on this card at first, but, allow me to let you in on a little secret*.

-1 Torrential Tribute
I like this card a lot, and I wasn't sure about it going back to two, originally.  Now, I realize it wasn't that bad of a decision.  This deck, for example, really doesn't always want the Tribute.  Sometimes you have turn 1 Laggia, and Torrential is just horrendous.  As easily as this deck exceeds into very powerful monsters, Torrential just isn't a good thing to have all the time.  I must admit it is nice to have the out, though.

-1 Mirror Force
This card goes in and out of popularity, and it is probably one of the worst cards in the deck.  In a trap-heavy deck, though, it is hard not to play it, as it actually has a surprise factor in a lot of games due to the sheer number of different traps that you have.  Generally in decks, though, it is easy to see a Mirror Force coming, and makes less players run into it.

Extra deck
2 Evolzar Dolkka
2 Evolzar Laggia
1 Number 39: Utopia
1 Number C39: Utopia Ray
1 Gem-Knight Pearl
1 Photon Papilloperative
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Temtempo the Percussion Djinn
1 Number 17: Leviathan Dragon
1 Ally of Justice Catastor
1 Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1 Stardust Dragon

Most of these cards are pretty standard so I'm not going to explain 'Zars, Utopia, etc.

-Photon Papilloperative
you NEED an answer to Spirit Reaper and Gellenduo.  Here it is.

-Temptempo
This card is nuts.  Play it.  It hurts Zenmaines, Utopia, Atum, Laggia, all kinds of plays just get hurt by this bad boy.

-Brionac
Hard to go into, but, when you do, you generally win the game that turn, or the following one.  Most decks this time a year ago had an extra deck that included monsters for Monster Reborn scenarios.  This is that card for me this year.

Side Deck
1 D. D. Crow
2 Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror
1 Victoria
1 Effect Veiler
1 Gellenduo
3 Maxx "c"
3 Macro Cosmos
1 The Transmigration Prophecy
1 Forbidden Chalice
1 Soul Taker

-1 D. D. Crow
There are a few matchups where having the singleton Crow is nice.  Crow has (for me, at least) become a 14th-15th "don't have anything better" type of card.

-2 Shadow Imprisoning Mirror
Hurts
Chaos Dragons
Inzektors
Darkworlds
Good enough for me.  It hurts TGU in my deck.  Period.

-1 Victora
Hate Chaos Dragons.  Hate.

-1 Effect Veiler
I always play the Wind-Up player eventually, need to come prepared.

-1 Gellenduo
I've won more than once in a scenario where Chaos Dragons just couldn't deal with this and milled out via Lyla or something similiar.  This guy is bonkers, AND level 4.

-3 Maxx "C"
Because F- Wind-ups.  That's why.

-3 Macro Cosmos
Unless they have a Lyla, it is a borderline Auto-Win Against Chaos Dragons.  Also hurts a lot of various Darkworld strategies and the like.

-1 Transmigration Prophecy
Fantastic at baiting MST.  Also great at turning off Inzektors mid-combo.  There are a lot of reasons that this thing puts in work.  Note that you can hit one card in your opponent's graveyard, AND one in yours.

-1 Forbidden Chalice
Anything playing a lot of flip effects or things that trigger during damage step.  Also just a solid choice against a lot of 'randoms' that you may end up facing

-Soul Taker
If you take nothing away from this article at all, notice how much I dislike Chaos dragons.  This card is also good against Heros and the mirror match.

So that is my deck at the moment and why I play the cards that I do.  I'm working on a new 'brew at the moment that will hopefully be awesome.  with the printing of Gustaph Max, this deck may have some more problems with big beaters than it did previously.  If you liked the article let me know.  If you didn't, tell me.  I love talking about the game with people so try and get in touch however you can!
