Welcome to the newest article of YamiBakuraFan’s Little Shop of Horrors! Today the articles in my column will be going through a few changes due to popular demand. Many players of the American Upperdeck Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG read my articles as well as players of the OCG. To let audiences of both games better enjoy what I write I have decided to henceforth include with all mentioning of OCG cards the corresponding TCG card name in parenthesis. This way we can all be happy and have a better time reading up on what’s new in Japan! Well today I have a special two part article set up for you. I’m going to be looking into the cards released in the now quite old, Limited Edition 4 Malik and Yugi packs. Each pack contained three new cards that were not released in the OCG or TCG. First I’ll be looking into the Yugi pack, which contains the three “Royal Shuffle Knights”. These three cards were recently reprinted in the Elemental Energy card set for the OCG and soon to be released in the TCG.
Queen Knight Queen Knight is a non-effect warrior monster. Being a warrior it has the obvious perks of being searchable by Calling Reinforcements (Reinforcements of the Army) and works well in conjunction with many other warrior based support cards, Troop Commander (Marauding Captain) and A Warrior’s Return (The Warrior Returning Alive) are just a few. Since Queen Knight has no effect and only works well in the combo with the other two knights I couldn’t see it being used in any deck besides a deck built around the knights or a Yugi themed deck.
King Knight King Knight is the second piece in the Knight’s combo. It’s a Light, warrior type monster so any cards that could support Queen Knight can be used along with this card as well. King Knight has the effect that if there is a face up Queen Knight, a Jack Knight may be special summoned to the field. This is the completion of the Knight combo. King has no effect other than its power to summon out Jack, so if you don’t have a Queen Knight, then King Knight is just as good as a non-effect monster. King Knight does have 100 more attack and defense points then Queen Knight though.
Jack Knight The last of the three Shuffle Knights is Jack Knight. Alone Jack Knights stats. are horrible. It has less attack than a card like Ghost Duke (The Earl of Demise). It’s a level 5, so you will need a sacrifice just to summon it. Having 1900 attack is not very good for a sacrifice monster. Cards like Blood Vors (Vorse Raider) or Newt (Slate Warrior) have the same attack power and are a level 4, requiring no sacrifice at all. But Jack Knight is not a card you ever want to have in your hand. If you’re using it with the other Knights it can only be special summoned from the deck, or else the combo won’t work. The main idea of the combo involving the three knights is to get a huge amount of field advantage quickly. In the anime, Yugi used this combo to get out three monsters for a quick sacrifice for his God Card. You could play the three knights in a similar way. You could sacrifice for cards like Gilford the Lightning or Devil’s Dread Root. This is a perfect way to take advantage of the knights, a quick and easy summon of a big monster. Another thing you can do with them is to fuse them. A recent fusion card was released in the Limited Edition 8 pack called Arcana Joker Knight. I’ll give everyone a quick peek into this card as well.
Arcana Joker Knight Arcana Joker is the fusion of the three knights. It has an incredible amount of attack power! It’s also a nine star fusion and can only be summoned by fusing the knights, yes no cheating here guys! 3800 attack power and 2500 defense is very good, but it has an interesting defense ability as well. Whenever targeted by a certain type of card you may discard a monster of that type to negate it. This can make Arcana Joker invulnerable to many cards being played in the current format. If your opponents rams it with a D.D. Assailant just drop a useless extra knight piece like a Jack Knight, you could use Night Assasin (Night Assailant) with this effect as well. Reactive Armor (Sakuretsu Armor) and Forced Ejection (Compulsory Evacuation Device) can be easily taken care of by discarding a trap of your own. Theft (Snatch Steal) or Brain Control can be easily avoided by discarding a magic card. Can anyone say Phoenix Blade for repeated abuse? Overall Arcana Knight Joker works wonderfully in a deck that already uses the knights. But my favorite use of all for the three knights is just pure swarmage. Getting these three and then adding in cards like Troop Commander (Marauding Captain) or Command Knight can be deadly for an opponent. You can also combo with attack boosting spells. Power of Teamwork (United We Stand) and United Army (The A. Forces) will give the Knights a huge power boost when all three gather and can mean a quick victory over the opponent. Now I will construct a warrior deck that uses the three knights and other means of swarming the field for a quick K.O. Gilford the Lightning will be added for fun, plus with the Knights and other swarmers that warriors have on there side, he should be an easy summon. Arcana Joker will also be in there for an alternate combo. THE SHUFFLE ALLIANCE
01)
Gilford the
Lightning Overall this deck should play quite well and pull off the combo’s involving the three knights every so often. That’s it for Yugi’s Limited Edition 4 overlook, next onto Malik.
