Welcome to YamiBakuraFan’s Little Shop of Horrors! Today I will be looking into the darker side of the Limited Edition 4 card sets. This is Malik Ishtahl’s limited Edition pack. Any cards relating to Malik’s torture deck from the anime and manga are expected to be quite tricky and a bit twisted, and today’s cards definitely both! These three cards combo with quickly changing up the field to confuse and surprise your opponent and throw off there game a bit. There is also a bit of support for monsters of the DARK attribute as well. Malik used all of the cards released in his Limited Edition 4 pack against Jounouchi in the Battle City finals of the Anime and Manga.
Gil Gars Gil Gars is an odd looking normal monster card. It’s a DARK monster and a demon sub-type as well. It has sub-par attack and defense points for a monster of its class, we do already have Demon Soldier (Archfiend Soldier) with higher attack and defense and the same exact stats overall. If you think about it, even Cyclops (Opticlops) is better than our mechanical demon friend. What is Gil Gars good for anyway? Besides the obvious adding it to your collection shiny promo cards, and just saying you have one, Gil Gars has only one real definitive use, In a Malik themed deck. Even if you were planning on using it in a deck based on normal monsters, Gil Gars just has too much competition that it’s outdated nowadays. In a Malik deck it can truly shine, even if it’s usefulness is still questionable. Some support for Gil Gars would be the obvious. Dark Assembly Line (Dark Factory of Mass Production) can fetch 1-2 back from the cemetery if needed. Anti Magic Field (Non-Spellcasting Area) will defend it from enemy magic cards, and Heart of the Underdog can get you a free draw if you happen to draw it on your draw phase. Other than that, Gil Gars is just a card without many combos going for it. It can be used in a Malik deck and specifically as a target of a card called Ambush, which I will look into next.
Ambush At first glance I must say Ambush, along with the other two cards in the LE4 Malik pack have some of the most interesting art designs on any Duel Monsters cards up to date. This card depicts a bunch of soldiers hiding in a trench ready to mount a surprise offensive on an approaching monster. With Ambush this is exactly what you will do. Lets look at the activation costs first. You can only activate it when your opponent summons in anyway, this includes special summons and flip summons which helps out the playability of this card by a lot. It’s still not chainable which can take the whole idea of a surprise attack during the battle phase out of the picture. This doesn’t mean that Ambush won’t throw off your opponent. This card can be played in rather confusing ways. There’s some interesting tech in it though. Lets just say your opponent plans to open up there first turn with a lightening swarm using Cyber Dragon as a special summon and following up with Don Zaruug (Don Zaloog). When they summon Cyber you can chain with Ambush and play a DARK main-type from your hand to intercept this field control. Dark Jelloid (Dark Jeroid) would be one of the best choices to play since it can be summoned in face up defense and lower Cyber Dragons attack down to 1300 points. With so many DARK monsters as targets you can find a lot of cards to abuse with Ambush. Nyudoria (Newdoria) or Illusionary Wall (Wall of Illusion) can be great walls. If your opponent doesn’t want to lose a monster they can’t risk an attack, this will buy you some time to gain advantage yourself of sacrifice for a bigger monster during your turn. Power attackers like Giant Orc can be good too, since they’ll help you swarm and take control of the game. This card is however situational. You can gain easier advantage by decking a Tidal Wave (Torrential Tribute) and it may just gain you more field presence in the long run. This card can also only target a DARK monster for the summon, so a deck that wishes to utilize Ambush to its full potential should deck a good amount of DARK monsters. This card can be played in a combo with Gil Gars and many of the other cards used by Malik in the anime!
Monster Relief Switching gears from Ambush the last card I’ll be looking into today is Monster Relief. While having the similar concept of a strange and interesting tech card for your deck, Relief has a completely different activation timing than Ambush. This card can only be played during the battle phase when your opponent declares an attack on one of your monsters. This card can obviously be used to save a monster and then replace it with a more powerful one to stop your opponent in there tracks. Again some good cards to go with would be Nyudoria (Newdoria) and Dark Jelloid (Dark Jeroid) these cards seem to have a real surprise factor to them, but since this isn’t limited to just Dark Monsters it can be a good way to save your Don Zaruug (Don Zaloog) from getting slammed after a successful attack and will replace it with a monster like a D.D. Assailant that you want attacked. This cards use is only as far as you are willing to play with your opponents mind. Grab back that weakling and pop out a searcher like Killer Tomato (Mystic Tomato) or Critter (Sangan), your opponent won’t want to attack it, but will they risk just ending the battle phase? Well that’s all for Maliks LE cards, and now I’m going to use some of these cards to construct a deck based on using cards like Ambush and Monster Relief to confuse your opponents and overtake them in battle. This deck will be highly focused on using DARK main-type monsters and will have various odd combos. RELIEFAFTER THE TOMATO AMBUSH

Heavenly
Knight Perseus (Airknight Parshath) Well that’s my tomato control with Monster Relief and Ambush support, these cards are really entertaining and I highly recommend that players should test them out a bit more and see just how good they do! Well that’s all for Malik’s Limited Edition pack! Thanks for stopping by, And I’d hope you stay tuned for future articles! -YamiBakuraFan
