Mutant Hybrain! Saint Knight Isaac! White Horns Dragon! GO!
January 12, 2006

Hello fellow Pojoers! Today I have a great new article for you guys in which I will be looking at various promos released in or in promotions with V-Jump magazine, which is serializing the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga. All three of the cards today are very hard to find and very fun to play in a deck based around them. Unlike my past articles these cards don’t work together for a central focus but rather are all cards released in the same manner. Our first card today is Mutant Hybrain.

Mutant Hybrain
VJC-JP010
Dark Main-type
Magic-User Sub-type
Level 6
0/2500
This effect can only be activated when this card declares an attack. Choose a face-up monster in attack mode on your opponent's field and take control of it until the end of battle phase. The selected monster would attack instead of this card. However, the monster cannot attack directly.

Mutant Hybrain is a card that was used in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga in V-Jump magazine by a character named Pete Coppermine, the fifth of the card professors who are blocking Yugi and companies path. Jounouchi duels against this strange duelist who uses a deck of Mutant monsters. Mutant Hybrain was Pete’s trump card, and like Pete’s personality and deck type, this card is very weird.

Hybrain is a level 6 monster, but has various ways of coming to the field without having to sacrifice a monster. Having no attack points it can be brought to your hand with Critter (Sangan) and special summoned from your deck to the field with Killer Tomato (Mystic Tomato). Another combo that fits well with Hybrain would be Magician’s Circle. Attacking with one monster and then bringing Hybrain out with Circle to take your opponents monster could make for a fun combo deck.

Hybrain’s effect can make for an odd kind of control. It actually reminds me a lot of the magic card Mind Control. You can take their monster out of the way but can’t do much with it. Since they get it back at the end of the battle phase you cannot sacrifice it, unless you have cards like Compensation of Blood (Ultimate Offering) or Dimension Magic ready. You can also use there monster to direct attack with one of yours or use their monster to attack another.

The main weakness with this card is that after you get it to the field and get its effect off successfully at least once, it is prone to being destroyed while in attack mode, and that could give the user a considerable amount of damage. If you can protect it, or just shake off the pain, you may find Mutant Hybrain to be an excellent choice for a Tomato or Magic-User control deck.

Saint Knight – Isaac
VJC-JP011
Light Main-type
Warrior Sub-type
Level 6
2300/1800
The monsters destroyed by this card as a result of battle are removed from the game.

Now that I have taken a look at Mutant Hybrain, let’s take a look at the card that defeated it. Isaac was used by Jounouchi in episode seven of the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga in his duel against Pete Coppermine. Isaac and Hybrain also have something in common, they both have very good art that makes them even cooler and more fun to play in your deck. Isaac is a Light main-type, Warrior sub-type monster. These are very good opening stats for a monster since it can immediately fit into a Chaos deck or a Warrior/Toolbox variant.

Saint Knight Isaac has a pumped up 2300 attack points with a solid 1800 defense. This is pretty good for a level 6 monster. This means Isaac can already defeat many problem cards like Cyber Dragon or Vampire Lord. Isaac also has the ability to remove all monsters it destroys in battle from the game! This makes it so an opponent cannot easily revive the destroyed monster cards or get them back from the cemetery in any way. Many decks abuse recursion from the cemetery, and Isaac can shut those decks down.

Think of Isaac like the opposite of Lesser Demon (Lesser Fiend). Isaac can shut down many problematic cards that get their effects from being sent to the cemetery in battle. Searchers like Killer Tomato (Mystic Tomato) and Critter (Sangan) do not get their effects when removed from the game. This will also stop cards like Nyudoria (Newdoria) and D.D. Assailant from using there removal effects.

I think Isaac can be an awesome card in the right hands. It’s stronger than Lesser Demon and has the backing of both Light and warrior support cards. The only thing you should watch out for when playing this card is RFG decks. RFG decks want their monsters removed from the game and will take advantage of Isaac as an easy way to do this. Just be weary of these cards if you want to test this card out.

White Horns Dragon
VJC-JP012
Dark Main-type
Dragon Sub-type
Level 6
2200/1400
When this card is successfully Summoned or Special Summoned, you may choose up to 5 Magic cards from your opponent's cemetery and remove them from the game. For each card removed from the game by this cards effect, this card's attack is increased by 300.

The third and final card I’ll be looking at today has a lot in common with the last two. The first similarity is that it’s also a card used in Yu-Gi-Oh! R. White Horns Dragon was the trump card of Willa Mette, the eighth card professor and was used in his duel against Seto Kaiba. The second similarity is that this is another level 6 monster. I guess I unconsciously chose three one sacrifice monsters this time.

White Horns Dragon is a Dark main-type, dragon sub-type monster with 2200 attack and 1600 defense. This card looks simple enough at first but it may be one of the best dragon monsters in the entire game! When White Horns is normal summoned or special summoned it gets its effect off, which is good because you can use the dump and revive method to get it out without having to sacrifice for it. When White Horns is summoned you get to remove up to five magic cards from your opponent’s cemetery from the game. If its not good enough yet, White Horns will gain 300 attack points for each magic card you remove! This means White Horns attack can become somewhere between 2500-3700 points!

A one sacrifice monster with such high attack is crazy and since your only removing your opponents magic cards for its effect is can possibly shut down there chance of using magic recursion techniques to reuse magic cards. There is almost no cost for this monsters summoning besides the sacrifice, which can be easily avoided but remember, this cards power is based on your opponents play style and your timing on summoning White Horns. At the beginning of a duel you may not get White Horns up past 2-3 magic cards while if you wait towards the later turns you are assured a quick 3700 beat stick at your disposal.

White Horns is a perfect addition to any dragon deck and can be used to help the activation of various dragon support cards like Stamping Destruction and Dragon’s Rage.
It can also work in a deck based on the Dragon Newt monsters that Willa played in the manga. The Dragon Newts lend a big hand to the playability of Dragon decks as well. I’ll be looking at them in my next article.

Today I had a hard time choosing just what kind of deck to build. I liked White Horns Dragon but I want to wait until my next article to build a deck based around it. Isaac is cool but really can’t go anywhere outside of a Light deck or Toolbox build, so I decided to build a Hybrain control deck! This deck runs like your normal tomato control, but the Hybrains can lend an extra hand to getting direct attacks ort just controlling the field.

Abuse Killer Tomato (Mystic Tomato) and Forced Transfer (Creature Swap) in this deck and use cards like Shrink and Book of Moon for defense. This deck should be able to quickly deplete the opponents hand and there options with Don and Soul Hunting Spirit (Spirit Reaper). Hybrain will take your opponents monsters out of the way to make direct attacks easier and will help you win duels quickly.

That’s all for today! Thanks for reading!
