Spell Negating Sub-Deck Theme
May 12, 2006

Well, I did receive very few submission and a lot of “Deck of the Week” decks, which I no longer do so please stop sending me them. Any how, that explains for my lack of an article last week, or for two weeks depending on when this article is posted.

Now, I by no means want any kind of Cookie Cutter decks submitted, and thankfully received none, so let me say this. My articles may not always contain game-breaking or tournament dominating effects, but simply may contain something fun to try out that might, later, prove to be game-breaking or tournament dominating.

Whew, with that off my chest let us proceed to today's deck type submitted by  Dark_Paladin_Jin from the Pojo forums. DPJ didn't send me much information on the support for this kind of deck, so please don't yell at me if my choices for cards are completely wrong or bad choices all-together.

The main combo focuses around two cards: Magical Blast, from Structure Deck Six, and  Cursed Seal of the Forbidden spell. I'll admit that I had to look up Magical Blast, and me with five plus odd years of experience. So here's the effect of it if you don't know:

“You can only activate this card while there is a Spellcaster-Type monster(s) on your side of the field. Inflict 200 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points for each Spellcaster-Type monster on your side of the field. If this card is in the Graveyard, you can add this card to your hand instead of conducting your normal draw during your Draw Phase.”

Just forget the entire first two lines of this effect and focus in on the last line. “If this card is in the Graveyard, you can add this card to your hand instead of conducting your normal draw during your Draw Phase.” Now, true you skip your draw phase if you choose to retrieve the card, but you're only going to do that once you draw Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell the turn before or you drew a certain other card that's a favorite of mine to tech in here....

The Key Cards: Magical Blast, Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell.

These cards were already explained, so I will merely explain how the combo works. You manage to get both of these two cards into your hand, set the Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell and wait for your opponent to activate any spell card, then just discard Magical Explosion and neggate it, now your opponent can no longer activate any cards of the same name, which seems to be an increasing trend with Brain Control's and Smashing Ground plus a few other cards.

Pretty cool huh? You can re-use the combo whenever you want to so long as you have the required cards.

The Support Cards: Mystic Tomato, Magical Hats, Mask of Darkness, Magician of Faith, Tsukuyomi

Quite a large line-up of support cards, some more important than others. Let's start with Mystic Tomato, Magical Hats and Mask of Darkness as they go with each other. Okay, let's say your opponent has two monsters out and decides to try an attack on your set Mystic Tomato, okay, bring out another. Dies too? Oh well, search and get Mask of Darkness and laugh when you see that quirky look on your opponents face. Next play Magical Hats and search out Magical Blast and Cursed Seal of the Forbidden spell, also flipping Mask of Darkness face down. Granted you can do this instead of searching out that second Mystic Tomato if you want, to save yourself so damage. But if you think of it this way, selecting those two cards with Mask of Darkness has basically created no loss, you're just going to get them back anyways! So it turns out to only be a -1 advantage that can save you in the long run, or save you from taking a turn of pain.

Next let's glimpse at Magician of Faith and Tsukuyomi. I'd only consider these cards semi-secondary cards. Magician of Faith is just nice spell retrieval that card get you back Magical Blast instead of drawing it. Tsukuyomi is mainly to re-use the flip effects in the deck.

Throw-In's: Dark Coffin, ...Wait, that's it....

Yep, only one real throw-in that I can say. Dark Coffin, with Magical Hats you've just got to run this card. Not only that, but you can set this and make your opponent think that you've got the combo and then make them waste Mobius the Frost Monarch or Breaker the Magical Warrior on it. Bluff's are easy to pull over with this deck.

Well, that's it for this week. Send me combos or I'll send my mass army of the undead after you!

Have a killer deck idea/combo and want me to review it (not a deck), than just email me at Darkfirestatr@aol.com. Title the top, “The Forbidden Deck-Types Idea Submission.” And don't forget to tell me who you are so that I can give you proper credit.
