Yugiman's Thoughts
To Get to the Top
November 20, 2006

Everybody's aim in life is to get to the top. To be the best and perform your best at anything you do. If you dont have an aim in life, then I dunno what's wrong with you. This isn't any different in Yugioh. Players take certain care on what they do, and how they do it to become the best. Today's article will be how you can prepare yourself to get to the Top (meaning Top8).

Now certain people might have different things they do before Nats, Shonen Jumps, Regionals, etc. We aren't all alike, so all of us tend to do things differently than each other. But here's some suggestions on how to keep your game-play/attitude perfect before any major event.

Sleep:

Try to always get as much sleep as you can before any major event. Now personally I dont do this, as I tend to sleep at friends night before, and his couch kinda sucks, so I get maybe 2 hours sleep. But if you can get a lot of sleep, the more aware your gonna be in the morning. You probably will make less-mistakes, wont forget something, wont be too cranky either. Your calculations will probably be dead on, and you could probably read your opponent like a book. No sleep could result in poor record, bad misplays, you mouthing off to opponent, etc. Always try to get as much sleep as possible.

Bring Food/Refreshments:

Some of the food at the place might suck, or might be too expensive. Maybe bring a apple or something and bring some drinks. Sometimes it will get too packed in the place, and you might sweat like a race-horse. This could lead to mistakes, as you might be too hungry/thirsty and will wanna finish duel quicker and it could lead to game-play mistakes or you losing the game. If they wont allow you to bring stuff or eat it. Go outside where they cannot see you. Or just eat like a pig.

Calculator and Paper:

You need to keep track of Lp's somehow. This is major, as if any of you screwed up calculations you have the calculator/paper to look back on. Dont do the math in your head, as player might complain to judge and judge might harass you about it. Always bring these.

Deodorant:

This really doesn't get you to the top, but it will make you smell good at the top. Ive gone to a ton of regionals and every time I put spray and deodorant on. Upon arriving, I smell such a bad stink that I could throw up.

People sometimes dont put anything of this on, and it gets annoying. Its not really major, but I like to smell good.

Bring Deck:

This is obv, but I sometimes see that people forget their deck at home, or lost it somewhere, resulting in them not entering, or being kicked from tournament. Also check and count how many cards are in deck from time to time. People can steal stuff without you noticing it. Check everything, including side-deck/fusion deck.

UDE Number:

Just bring your card, you dont you cant enter. Unless you get another card of course. If you know your UDE# off by heart, you might not need it. Bring some proper ID too, cause they could get all commando on you, and ask stuff.

Play your Best:

Observe your hand closely, you might make a mistake you might regret in the end. You might have a good combo in hand to pull out win. If you dont check, you could make misplays which could lead to you losing. Keep your deck as close as it can be to 40. You will get what you need quicker, and thats what we need to see.

Probably some more tips, but will maybe write another article about it later. Follow some of these, and have fun at tournaments. E-mail is freezergeezer111@hotmail.com <mailto:freezergeezer111@hotmail.com>.

Hatemail/supportmail can be directed to that e-mail. Thanks for reading.
