Continuous Trap Text: Each time a monster on your opponent’s side attacks, toss a coin and call Heads or Tails. If you called it right, the attacking monster’s ATK becomes 0 only during the Battle Phase. Pay 500 LP during each of your Standby Phases. If you do not, this card is destroyed.
Every time I build a deck, the biggest problem I face is deciding how many Sakuretsu Armor/Widespread Ruin/Bottomless Trap Hole I should use. Sometimes Gadgets sneak over Bottomless and laugh at Widespread, while Cyber Phoenix bites me over unusable Sakuretsu.
So far, enough defenses caused me to use too many cards in one deck. What the heck am I supposed to do? Use Dekoichi the Battle-Chanted Locomotive? GAH!!
Fairy Box is a Continuous Trap with a small maintenance cost of 500 LP per your Standby Phase. You always have the option to pay, and if you do not, Fairy Box will be destroyed. Similar to Mirror Wall, but with lower cost and a little weaker effect in a way, but nevertheless still useful.
If you have an active Fairy Box that is not negated by either Jinzo or Royal Decree, when your opponent declares an attack with one of the monsters, you may activate Fairy Box’s effect. Declare Heads or Tails first, then flip a coin.
If your call was correct, then the attacking monster’s ATK will become 0. This effect does not target, so Cyber Phoenix and Lord of D./King Dragun won’t do squat! Good thing is, you can use this effect once per attacking monster. If you have more Fairy Box, then you can use flip for each of them until you get one right!
However, similar to Ultimate Offering and Skull Lair, this card must be active before you can activate the effect. You can only use the effect once per monster too (obviously…).
Now, because 0 ATK will most certainly destroy the attacking monster, unless Waboku interferes, most of the time this Trap will surpass Sakuretsu armor, assuming your flips are lucky. However, in some cases, Sakuretsu Armor will be better because…
Mystic Tomatoes!! Nova Summoner (I’m really attracted)!! Nimble Momonga!! These if-I-die-in-battle-and-go-to-graveyard-I-get-a-friend things…will still get the effects. Not that your opponent won’t take any damage…but he/she won’t lose any field presence.
Hm, then how could you abuse it, you say? Well…Don Zaloog pops up. Airknight Parshath seems pretty good too. Got that dusty Mefist the Infernal General at the bottom of your Cyber Dragon tin? Bring it out!!
This card words well with Neo-Spacian Grand Mole. Even if flip fails, you won’t lose a thing! Also, “battle searchers” tend to maintain field presence in case of failure. Sweet!
Maintenance cost must be paid, even if Jinzo or Royal Decree is on the field. This 500 could stack if you have multiple Fairy Boxes. Usually, 1 will be sufficient to devastate incoming attackers. Have fun with that Spirit Reaper when your opponent tries to push for some damage! You shouldn’t have played around with Reaper!
In Second Coin Toss deck, with Blowback Dragon and Sasuke Samurai #4 (maybe Jirai Gumo?), this card will work darn well. It will guarantee 75% chance of success with 1 Second Coin Toss!
Have fun whacking that mole (from outer space!)!
