Carrot Analysis: This Ain’t a Petting Zoo!

King Tiger Wanghu
Level: 4
Attribute/Type: Earth/Beast
1700 ATK/1000 DEF
Destroy all monsters with 1400 ATK or less that are Normal or Flip Summoned.

Though I couldn’t visit Dark Maltos’ Storm Vortex forum often, I really wanted to. A lot of friendly discussions (reminds me of “Accountable Talks” that actually work) and new ideas. I posted a thread about 4-starred Ladybug of Doom, but this card seems to be better to talk about, because of supportive types.

This card often was seen as Sidedeck choices against Tomato + Swap control basis. All those searchers will get nuked, and you know what? No priority for Exiled Forces or any other monsters within the range. I’ll briefly explain why. When you summon a monster with, say, Ignition Effect, turn player who summoned the monster may place the monster’s effect as the first step of the chain, OR (not and/or, just or) respond with Spell Speed 2 or above. I’ve been trying to find information about Spell Speed 1, but I did not prevail.

When Exiled Force is summoned, for example, the player cannot activate its Ignition Effect because King Tiger Wanghu’s effect is Trigger, not Continuous (I’ll have to think about what’d happen if it was). Turn player’s denied the priority because King Tiger Wanghu’s Spell Speed 2 (Multi-Trigger because it can be activated during opponent’s turn? Either way) activates, and Exiled’s Spell Speed 1 cannot be activated as chain.

Anyhow, this seemed to be the first thing that people thought of as anti-Gadget, along with Asura Priest. Asura Priest would be a better pick in my opinion. Asura Priest attacks through safely to annihilate little machines, yet Smashing Ground/Fissure/Hammer Shot/Lightning Vortex cannot destroy it.

Gadget decks seem to run around 1-2 Snipe Hunter with maybe 1 Chiron the Mage, and King Tiger Wanghu sadly is vulnerable to all these cards. However, that doesn’t make the card that bad, does it?

1700 ATK is excellent, just above Hydrogeddon, matching ever-popular D.D. Assailant. 1000 DEF…I’ll say it, sucks, because it ruins possible combination with Wild Nature’s Release, unlike Exarion Universe. Earth is better than Wind or Fire, and Beast is meh. Effect is the flower that all of us, Gadget-must-be-destroyed bees are attracted to.

The problem arises again. Would you just run this card as a tech, or support it a bit and synergize (I guess that’s not a word because Microsoft Word said it’s not) with rest of deck components, possibly with Enraged Battle Ox, and Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, the flaming hot bird. Hey, that’s anti-Gadget structure right there!

Usually, themed decks stink. Usually. Some of us are good with building incredibly awesome themed decks, such as Dragon. I must say, I’m not. I just play with D.D. Survivor + Dimensional Fissure without any D.D. Scout Plane because I’m too poor ;_; Anyway, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t build themed decks. I’m saying Gadgets will have advantages, more than half the time.

People seem to realize that Chimeratech Overdragon can feed on little Gadgets and become a one huge hitter. King Tiger Wanghu cannot stop Chimeratech Overdragon by himself, but he surely can stop Gadgets! He also eats Treeborn Frog, Old Vindictive Magician and countless stuffs if conditions are met.

Some people used System Down to have extra advantages on Gadget matches, and King Tiger Wanghu could be used the same way. Full Gadget, 1-2 Spiritual Earth Art – Kurogane, 2 Giant Rat, 3 Nimble Momonga, 2 Swap, 1 Goat, 1 Enraged Battle Ox, and 2 of these will make a good Earth-centered Gadget deck. Fun one, at least. If you are using this in a Gadget deck, watch out not to blow up your own Gadgets. Mr. Wanghu can’t see well, and he’ll eat your own Gadgets if you aren’t careful.

Now, Card Trooper, Destiny Hero – Malicious & Diamond Dude, and some of the newer cards have good effects and low ATK. With Shrink, Wanghu will live a lot longer from, say, Cyber Dragon. Card Trooper and Diamond Dude will not get their priorities but Trooper will still get the card for itself.

Fairy card gained a lot of support from STON, and Nova Summoner can now fetch Airknight Parshath straight from Deck with Sanctuary in the Sky. Because it will be a lot easier to ram and gain advantage with Shrink and Sanctuary, you might want to destroy the Summoner beforehand.

Beware that Flip Summon will not trigger the effect, nor being flipped up. Command Knight will survive because when the monster is summoned, you must calculate attack with all the modifiers on the field at the moment of summoning. Shrink will not work because by the time Shrink resolves, the monster is already summoned. Face-down Special Summons will not trigger, for The Shallow Grave and Apprentice Magicians.

One last thing: I’ve seen several Marauding Captain + Hand of Nephthys opening, and King Tiger completely shut that down. Even though Captain will still be able to activate its effect since it’s also Trigger (in fact, Multi-Trigger I believe), Tiger will kill him after the effect resolves.

Use him well. That’s my suggestion ^_^
