Carrotizer on YuGiOh Now, August arrives and we are less than a month away from the sanction of a brand new era – with the release of Tactical Evolution (the Sneak Preview of which I could not attend…) and Shield Crush, along with Marshmallon. I haven’t been able to use Internet for quite a long time, but when I searched for a possible Japanese list, this popped up. No, this is NEITHER OFFICIAL JAPANESE/ENGLISH BAN LIST!! Nevertheless, it is crazy.
I.
Forbidden Cards Um, yeah…let’s start with…okay, this whole list is crazy. CRAZY! Let’s start with the banned part. I mean…dang… Confiscation is banned. Was it THAT good enough to be banned? Well, it was a good card. This list has Trap Dustshoot at 1 and Mind Crush at 3 (which is better in my opinion, but not the best). Opening with Confiscation was deadly, keeping cards that you can take care of easily and ditching troublesome cards. Personally, I won’t really mind…though I’d like to see it at 1 because it’s Confiscation. It won’t give you god-hand opening. Ring of Destruction. Well, you saw that coming. Oh man. I wanted to make a Chain Burn deck with Legacy of Yata-Garasu…crud. 1 for 1, chainable, mass damage, often ended games. Cannot be stopped except by Solemn Judgment (not likely in game 1…and to have it when Ring goes off?), Royal Decree (meh), chaining Call of the Haunted which targets Jinzo (okay), or Book of Moon, which is at 2 according to this unofficial list. Good to be gone. Snatch Steal? Yeap. Agreed. Yes, it will be negated by Dust Tornado/MST that is chained. Yet there is no cost! Better, so much better than Brain Control/Enemy Controller. Brain Control at 1 – I thought that’s how it’d be when it came out in The Lost Millenium, similar to Lightning Vortex in Flaming Eternity. Treeborn Frog…mm. Yes, I don’t have an Ultimate Rare Treeborn Frog, please ban it! Just kidding…I think this list will KILL Monarchs, which has been the new Cookie Cutter-ish deck for 6 months now. Treeborn Frog can be more broken than Sinister Serpent. Technically, Sinister Serpent + Ultimate Offering=Treeborn Frog. Heh…anyway, this list will put an end to Monarchs’ reign. Limiter Removal is questionable for me. Themed decks never get enough support, except Destiny Heroes which came out recently. Okay, Field Spell searchers have been added, and Harpies are more playable than ever with Raiza the Storm Monarch and Harpie Queen. Machines are gone? How can you play Machines without Limiter Removal? Since this list has Card Trooper at 1, why is Limiter Removal broken? I don’t think there’s a broken Machine monster from Tactical Evolution, is there? Does anybody think Limiter Removal is broken? Nobleman of Crossout is questionable, yet debatable still. Taking out all Flip monsters and clearing the way. Yet Shield Crush does the same, doesn’t it? Difference is Sangan/Destiny Hero – Malicious/Sand Moth will still get their effects. I think Nobleman of Crossout at 1 and Shield Crush at 1 should do the trick, since Shield Crush on face-down Card Trooper is a –1. If Shield Crush is at 3, then…Sand Moth/Big Shield Gardna will see more play, I hope. Morphing Jar is no. Is Morphing Jar broken? Um…hard to say. I’m a fan of Dark World. (someone should make Carrotizer, Fan of the Dark World XD), and DW theme did NOT get any support from Force of the Breaker (though DW does not have any Field Spells). I know you get a 2100 vanilla DEF, but what good is that when you can’t use it with discards? Morphing Jar shouldn’t be gone…I just think it’s not that broken. Why do you ban Morphing Jar and bring back Tribe Infecting Virus? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Except for Morphing Jar and Limiter Removal (okay, Morphing Jar is just personal preference), I agree with most of the Forbidden part. I don’t think Dark World Dealing in 3’s banned Morphing Jar…did it? Let’s check the Limited part. Brain Control, Card Trooper…and…Breaker the Magical Warrior? What? I thought we agreed on immediate +1=ban! Do we not have enough Spell/Trap removals? Well…Trunade is at one, Twister doesn’t help much…but Breaker is at least 1 for 1, and that’s when he’s Bottomless’d or Torrential’d! Brain Control, okay, cool, I like that. 2 would have been good enough for me, but 1 is fine too. Card Trooper is banned. Hm. Guaranteed 1 for 1 that can fuel graveyard both for Overload and Avarice, and Premature with Call of the Haunted… Let’s argue for Card Trooper, Raiza the Storm Monarch, Snipe Hunter, Tribe-Infecting Virus, Mind Crush, and Trap Dustshoot here. First, Card Trooper. 3 Troopers are definitely too many. “Troop, Dupe, Scoop” isn’t that pleasant. I may be complacent with 2 because Brain + Duplication can still lead to +1 situation, and another +1 when stolen Trooper is Tributed for Jinzo/Cyber Dragon. At my last Regional (and first), in which I placed 17th with 6-2, Raiza was everywhere, and it was powerful. It’s a little more than +1 even if Tributed monster did not pay for itself, since you take away a Summon and ensures the type of your opponent’s next draw. Raiza is not broken, but 3’s give me a little creep. I won’t be sad if it’s kept at 3 because Harpies are cool like that. Tribe-Infecting Virus is a big trouble here. Why do you bring this guy back?? Not searchable (hm, cool), yet deadlier than Snipe Hunter…who made this list? Snipe Hunter is not broken, but it did cause me a lot of trouble at the Regional when opponent kept hitting successes for about 8 times without even failing once. Snipe Hunter’d be nicer at 2, because Snipe Hunter IS searchable. No deck REQUIRES 3 copies of Snipe Hunter except Volcanic hand control deck. Snipe Hunter can be searched out guys…Tribe-Infecting? Bye, goats. Bye, everything. O! I see 5 monsters in my graveyard! Let’s blow up more monsters and kill more! Come on, Tribe? It kills the freakin’ themes! Mind Crush and Trap Dustshoot are debated. Dustshoot can be as good as or even better than Confiscation in given situations. Can be reused with Mask of Darkness, which this list has at three, with Shield Crush at 3. Hm. Mind Crush…if Confiscation is banned, then 3 is reasonable. I should say 1 or 2 is unreasonable. Marshmallon was as expected. Spirit Reaper is banned not because of its hand disruption, but because of its invincibility through battle. Marshmallon, welcome to our world. I still need a copy. *Sniffles* Megamorph, Reinforcement of the Army, and Metamorphosis are reasonable except for Reinforcement of the Army. RotA should be at 1.5, but as much as I’d like it to be, being at 2 isn’t broken. Megamorph reassures anti-OTK policies (even though this list isn’t made by Konami/Upperdeck), and Metamorphosis shuts down TER/Balter rampage with D-Hero Malicious. Thousand-Eyes Restrict? Anybody remember Instant Fusion? Transform Scapegoat into the deadly Spellcaster and you just broke even with priority. Instant Fusion breaks even and you can revive TER later. No…Thousand-Eyes Restrict slows down game too much. Time Seal? Um…Mask of Darkness at 3, Book of Moon at 2? Slow down game further? There is Drop Off, which is never broken. Time Seal is a chainable 1 for 1! Come on! Time Seal? I gave my copy away! XD Um, do I see Swords of Revealing Light at 2? *Cleans glasses* What? There is Nightmare’s Steelcage, which actually is balanced. Seems like this deck promotes stalling stuffs. Walling of Revealing Light at 3? Okay, Last Turn has been gone. Reversal Quiz is back, baby! D.D. Warrior Lady at 2 with RotA at 1 is pretty decent, though she is definitely better than D.D. Assailant. Usually. Protector of the Sanctuary at 3? It was broken…NOT! Chaining Call of the Haunted to Card Destruction/Morphing Jar Flip was fun. 3 Protector…hm…no milling, except for Card Trooper? At most 2, in my opinion. Let’s not overkill this…it is searchable! Uh, but the real problem is here; Apprentice Magician at 3? Okay, we have 3 Shield Crush, but without Nobleman of Crossout. Crystal Seer era? No, I don’t even have 1~! I’m still at 0 Malicious, 0 Trooper, 0 D-Draw…I’m poor enough already. *Cries* What I expected to see (once again, this is a reminder that this list was not created by UDE or Konami) was Card Trooper somewhere, with Metamorphosis at 1, and Lightning Vortex at 2. Lightning Vortex is good, but I don’t see a lot of usages for some reason. I try to fit it in my deck. I try…call me ignorant but why was Victory Dragon banned? It couldn’t be summoned via Mausoleum of the Emperor anyway. D.D. Survivor + Dimensional Fissure, maybe? Although Gravekeeper’s Spies are extremely good, they shouldn’t be touched. Instead of banning themed cards, UDE should offer us more plausible ways to deal with powerful old cards that we haven’t realized the potential of. I’ve been collecting Mysterious Guard for a while now (since I searched for “return” text for Raiza in YVD), and Mysterious Guard is good but not broken. If it was 2-star, then heck yeah, it is broken. Instead of banning Treeborn Frog (it wasn’t unbroken, you have to admit though), we should get more techs against Monarchs (which we did in TAEV, but is that all we get? Gemini Imps will kill Thestalos, Spirit Reaper, Don Zaloog and Dark World theme. Don’t we get more Dark World cards? Do we stick to Cheerful Coffins?) Because Crush Card Virus should come out soon (bloody SD11 and 12 won’t come out…Jaden Yuki and Syrus came out). More Roid cards were added. Roids are fun to play with. Give us more themed cards. Not necessarily more anime cards, but more Gate Guardian cards, more Coin Flip cards, more A Legendary Ocean cards. Let’s make Yu-Gi-Oh more diverse. By Paul Yeem – Carrotizer
