Hey
everyone! Today’s article is going to be a bit
different and not nearly as long compared to my
recent articles. I’ve recently attended the
Jacksonville, Florida Regional on March 12th and
placed 2nd; qualifying for Nationals this year. My
opponent in the Finals was currently ranked Top 4 in
Florida, Frank Debrito. This is my Regional deck
list for those of you who are curious about what
deck I used:
Deck Total: 41 Cards
Monsters: 16
3x D.D. Warrior Lady
2x Berserk Gorilla
1x Dark Magician of Chaos
1x Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
1x Blade Knight
1x Tribe-Infecting
1x Sinister Serpent
1x Magical Scientist
1x Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
1x Injection Fairy Lily
1x Magician of Faith
1x Breaker the Magical Warrior
1x Don Zaloog
Spells: 17
1x Reinforcement of the Army
1x Smashing Ground

2x Dust Tornado

1x Return from the Different Dimension
1x Nobleman of Crossout
1x Book of Moon
1x Airknight Parshath
It’s a pretty standard Chaos build mixed with Earth
Monsters to make it a bit more aggressive than
usual. The Side-Deck I used in the event contained
various counters to aggressive decks plus numerous
options against Lockdown decks and anything else I
might have run into.
I would like to give a big thanks to the guys on
Team Evolution from Fort Lauderdale, Florida with
their awesome tiebreakers; boosting up my 5-2 record
into the Top 8. Most of all to Paul Lyn and Brice
Thompson who’s match decided whether I made it or
not (Brice won). I’m sure all of you remember Brice
from my last Regional report when he and I went to
the 4th game; and he won. To no surprise he beat me
yet again in the preliminary rounds of the Regional
which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Good
job Brice. I would also like to thank Steve (K.C.)
Shockley for giving me the win in the first round
since he had already qualified at Shonen Jump
Orlando. That win in the first round pretty much set
the standard for how well I did at the tournament
being undefeated until round 4. Determined not to
lose I played the best I knew how to make it to the
Top 8; not letting Steve’s concession go in vain.
Having only lost to Michael Oliveros (6-1) and Brice
Thompson (6-1) I was pretty much a shoe in for Top
8.
In the Top 8 quarterfinals I faced a fellow player
from my store Gathering Place Games, Michael
Oliveros, who was using an Earth Rush deck which had
beaten me in the 4th Round. After some close calls
and manipulation of both of our Injection Fairy
Lilies I came out on top 2-1. That was truly a great
match. After playing Michael I had to face off
against Paul Lyn who is currently ranked among the
Top 10 duelists in Florida. This match was a classic
Chaos vs. Chaos match-up that breezed by quickly
with quick exchanges of life points and both of us
struggling to maintain field control over the other.
Eventually I emerged victorious with a 2-1 win that
wasn’t easily earned. Well done Paul, despite all
your comments on the match (*You know I have to mess
with you Paul*). Finally my opponent in the Finals
was none other than Frank Debrito. After a grueling
Game 1 lasting 45 minutes we decided we would speed
it up a bit due to exhaustion. Frank was able to
stay alive for an unnatural amount of turns due to
Fiber Jar and Emergency Provisions activations that
keep bouncing his Life total up and down from 500 to
2500. Frank eventually won over me ending the match
with a 2-1 win.
Team Evolution made a very impressive showing by
having 4 members of their team qualify for
Nationals. Brice Thompson, Val Balkalar, Paul Lyn,
Frank Debrito are all qualifiers with Brice already
being qualified since the first Fort Lauderdale
Regional. Congratulations to all of you guys down
south. Don’t worry guys…I haven’t forgotten about my
roots!
In addition, Team Fire ‘n’ Ice (My team) now has 6
National Qualifiers for Nationals. Their names are:
Alex Faraldo, Jashawn Brooks, Jennifer Carpenter,
Steve (K.C.) Shockley, my brother Kevin Camareno,
and me Bryan Camareno. With the two dominant Florida
teams making their mark in the impressive Florida
competition, expect to see us at Nationals this year
to give the rest of the big names in Yugioh a run
for their money. I assure all of you that this
year’s Nationals will be an event to remember for
years to come.
Next I bring to you my next series of articles,
which will span until Nationals, dubbed “A View
from the Top.” This article series is a series
of interviews with the top players in America. The
players that I’m looking for are Top 8 Qualifiers
and the Top 20 players from each state. So, if
you’re a National Qualifier or one of the “Top Dogs”
in your state, send me an email at:
deathjester86@gmail.com with your name,
qualifications, rank, deck type, and screen names
for various messengers. After I receive your email
I’ll respond by giving out my screen names for
Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, and MSN messenger so that you’ll be
able to get in contact with me and set up the
interview.
If you’re one of these players and you want to
people around the country to know who they’re
dealing with at Nationals this year; here’s your
chance to shine. With your individual interview
everyone can answer the age-old question: Who are
YOU???
That’s it for me today, until next time remember to
practice, stay focused, and most importantly…have
fun!
