Welcome to my very
first article on this site. I hope you enjoy the
articles that I will post. This time I will be going
over our Metagame and ways we can counter it.
Our Metagame is
pretty good right now, much better than the last
format's Chaos Return. This format has opened up new
possibilities, like Chimeratech Over Dragon, Dark World,
Warrior Toolbox, Monarch with Sacred Phoenix of
Nephythys (otherwise known as Jumper), and many other
unique decks that we didn't' have last time. So, what
is wrong with this format?
Every format has a
Cookie-Cutter. You can't stop that from happening,
because there will always be something better.
Fortunately, people don't see all the ways to counter.
Nothing can't be countered in this game, and there will
always be a deck that is called Anti-Meta deck.
Monarchs are reigning
supreme in this format. You can see that from looking
at the last Shonen Jump Championship decklists on
Metagame.Com. Those are the new Cookie-Cutters for the
format. They do have more weaknesses than people like
to think though...
1.
Their Engine (Apprentice Magician)
They run this over
Mystic Tomato or other recruiters because of the cards
you can get out of it. Flip Effect Monsters like Old
Vindictive Magician or Magician of Faith can be used to
get advantage, and then as tribute fodder for their
Monarchs (mainly Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch or
Zaborg the Thunder Monarch). But, most of their cards
go into Face-Down Position, leaving them completely
vunderable for Mystic Swordsman LV2, Hydrogeddon, or
even Sasuke Samurai.
2.
The Speed of the Deck
The average Monarch
deck is very slow. A high powered Aggro deck can easily
run through it. Many people have seen that, and are now
packing triple Sakuretsu Armors, along with the other
standard defensive trap; Ring of Destruction and Mirror
Force. Traps can be countered with cards like Royal
Decree, Jinzo, and even Mobius the Frost Monarch, so why
not run those? My Body As A Shield will also protect
you from their Monster Removal cards like Old Vindictive
Magician, Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, Smashing Ground,
Sakuretsu Armor, Mirror Force, etc.
3.
The Monsters
On average, most
people will only run Breaker the Magical Warrior, D.D.
Warrior Lady, and Monarch of their choice as a decent
attack beater. Enemy Controller and Book of Moon
usually can kill them when followed up with a Cyber
Dragon or Hydrogeddon. So, those are pretty good cards
to be included in the Anti-Meta Deck.
With all that being
said, it looks like many of those cards are Warriors, so
why not run a pair of Reinforcements of the Army? Those
should be included in the deck so you can get to your
killer beasts waiting to trample your opponent. Let's
look at the new Anti-Meta Deck!
Monsters: 22
3 Hydrogeddon
3 Cyber Dragon
2 Mystic Swordsman
LV2
2 Mystic Tomato
2 Exiled Force
1 Sangan
1 Newdoria
1 Jinzo
1 Breaker the Magical
Warrior
1 Spirit Reaper
1 Sangan
1 Don Zaloog
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 D.D. Assailant
1 Cyber Stein
Spells: 17
2 Smashing Ground
2 Enemy Controller
2 My Body As A Shield
2 Reinforcement of
the Army
2 Rush Recklessly
1 Confiscation
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Premature Burial
1 Heavy Storm
1 Nobleman of
Crossout
1 Book of Moon
1 Graceful Charity
Traps: 5
2 Royal Decree
1 Ring of Destruction
1 Mirror Force
1 Torrential Tribute
There's the deck. It
is aggressive, but it tries not to over-extend. Never
over-extend with the deck, because your opponent can
grab control of your hold over the game. This deck can
counter Monarchs, Burn, Stein, and other decks with the
selected cards. It is extremely efficient, and could be
the new Anti-Meta deck for the remainder of the format.
I hope you like the deck, and my first article on the
site. If you have any comments or suggestions, please
email me at
zbarvian@comcast.net. I will also take original
deck ideas to put on the site. Thanks for reading.
