Top Duelist
Interview: Dexter Dalit
By: WiCkEd
Sept. 6, 2005
Well, I've decided to do a week or two of
interviewing some of the top players in North
America, the United Kingdom, and various other
places. Starting this week, we've got Dexter Dalit.
Who is Dexter Dalit? Dexter Dalit is a Canadian who
ended up participating in Worlds 2005 and placing
6th in the overall event. Impressive in itself.
Onto the interview!
WiCkEd:
Alrighty, let's start with names, so the viewer
knows.
Dexter:
My name is Dexter Dalit =D
Dexter:
hold up I got to goto the washroom lol
WiCkEd:
kk, lol
Dexter:
alright back
WiCkEd:
So, as the readers know you Topped 6 at Worlds,
could you explain what type of deck you used?
Dexter:
I used the very unoriginal Goat Control with
Wave-Motion Cannon teched in.
WiCkEd:
Very unoriginal, but hey, can't knock it if you hit
Worlds with it. In your opinion, what would you run
if originality was "accepted" in the metagame?
Dexter:
haha I would run Dragons or a pure female deck
WiCkEd:
Pure Female eh? I'd love a deck list for that...XD
Dexter:
haha I would run 16x Harpie Girls for monsters =D
WiCkEd:
So, with the new banlist coming out, do you think
the game will finally get the flare it deserves? Or
do you see it faltering?
Dexter:
The new banlist will totally improve the metagame.
With the new banlist it prevents random scrubs who
have good cards but have no skill from winning.
Don't get me wrong, I myself get lucky with a
topdeck every now and then to give myself a chance
to win but with cards like Charity and BLS, they're
totally gamebreaking.
WiCkEd:
What deck type do you see being dominate in the next
banlist; an original one, or something we've seen
evolve over time (Aggro)?
Dexter:
Aggro for sure will be the Cookie Cutter but there
will be some surprising decks that'll win
WiCkEd:
Good answer, this is definately shaping up into mass
sexiness.
Dexter:
haha
WiCkEd:
Back on topic; What do you see becoming newer tech
cards? Give reasons if you want.
Dexter:
I think everyone is going to tech in Shining
Friendship because it's so broken with the Shining
Friendship + Book of Taiyou combo =P
WiCkEd:
XD
Dexter:
I could see people teching in the Horus Family (2
LV6s and LV8). I got this idea from the great
JAPANESE duelists!!! and it runs fine, just don't
draw into LV8
WiCkEd:
XD...I play a Horus deck with 2 LV6 and 1 LV8
WiCkEd:
Tech? Suuure is. Awesome at that.
WiCkEd:
Do you see more Canadian players coming to the U.S.
to play in SJCs in the future?
Dexter:
Yeah for sure, with something like a Des Volstagulf
on the line that can easily make you a nice 4-5
Grand
WiCkEd:
Last question: Do you plan on getting into Worlds
again this year? If so, what deck would you want to
use to qualify/use at it?
Dexter:
Well no one can really plan on going to Worlds, but
I'm going to try and as for the deck... *thinking*
I'll just get a Warrior starter deck and use that =P
WiCkEd:
Alright Dex, I appreciate your time, if you ever
wanna get back to me or help me in an article just
give me a holler
For
those of you in Toronto, Canada who play, you can
take the time to meet Dexter at Excalibur Comics.
There will be more articles this week as long as
school doesn't prevent me from getting to the people
I have scheduled to interview. Hope you enjoyed it
guys! Until next time, I'm out!
