Before I start I
like to thank Pojo for posting this up for me.
Ally: Thanks for taking your time away to help me
with this interview. I will start out with something
basic; what is your name?
Jeff: Jeff Jones
Ally: How old are you?
Jeff: I am 19 years old, even though I look like Im
14.
Ally: Not really. I think you look 19 ;) ;x haha. So
I heard you topped 8 a Shonen Jump. You mind telling
the Pojo readers which jump it was?
Jeff: Haha. Sure, I made top 8 at the last Shonen
Jump before it was made top 16, which would be
Shonen Jump St. Louis.
Ally: How did it feel to top 8 at St. Louis?
Jeff: Well you see, before I made top 8, there were
a lot of great players in the ygo community who
would always ask me "So Jeff why haven’t you top 8ed
a jump yet?" And I would just tell them simply, "I
always lost on the bubble!" Haha, which happened
during almost all my jumps, 2 which I got 9th at.
But after I made top 8, it felt really good to
finally not have people ask me about why I hadn’t
made top 8 at any previous jumps!
Jeff: Even though I didn’t go on to win, I was proud
of myself, because every one knew I had the best
deck in top 8, and was expecting me to win. That
also made me feels good, people betting one me
winning lol
Ally: Yes betting haha most of us know about that.
Who did you lose to in the top 8 in St. Louis SJ?
Jeff: Haha! Yea i guess you can say "Betting and
Jeff Jones go together" But any way, I ended up
losing to Andrew Fredella
Ally: How did you lose to Andrew?
Jeff: Well first off I would like to disperse of
some rumors of that I scooped to Andrew, because it
certainly looked like it on metagame. He was playing
monarchs and I was playing an Anti Meta deck. But
what happened was i opened with 2 smashing and 2
Exiled Force, something like that, and he opening
turn MSTed my only defense, mirror force. Game 2 was
a little better, but in the end he got me, I ran low
on resources after he hit me with spirit reaper lol.
Ally: Thats got to suck. :< What prize did you get
for top 8ing?
Jeff: Blah, I ended up getting a DS and a box, which
wasn’t even Strike of the Neos! They gave StoN packs
to the regional players but not the SJC top 8ers!
Ally: Well that stinks! Did you at least get
anything good?
Jeff: I got an ultimate Grand Mole! Other then that
I got nothing!
Ally: What deck were you running at St. Louis SJ?
Jeff: I was playing a deck Mike Powers built for me,
It was An Aggro Deck, with Stratos, which was very
hard to get at the time being just released, With
triple solemn in the main board to help win game one
against Diamond Dude Turbo. The side deck was all
dedicated to stopping DDT and Bazoo.
Ally: Alright, how consistent was the deck?
Jeff: The deck was very consistent until the end
against my match against Fredella, I had been
telling every one the night before I was going to
win the jump unless I got a crap hand, and heaven
behold! Jeff Jones drew a bad hand hehe.
Ally: Haha **** happens ;x. Ok well I heard you had
some how to say this little "bets" going on. Care to
describe this?
Jeff: Haha! Yeah I wouldnt mind at all! Well first
of all, to every one who doesn’t know, which should
be a small amount of people, I am gay so yeah. Whoo
hoo! But thats where my bets started! During SJC
Indy, I made a bet with a cirtain person who we will
call "Jake", But the bet was, This person had to
play Emon Ghanian, and if Emon WON, "Jake" had to
play ME, and if I won, "Jake" would have to make out
with me on video camera for 3 minutes I believe it
was, and if he won the bet, he would get close to
3000 grand in cards. Well any way "Jake" lost to
Emon then lost to me! So then the video ended up on
the internet and it caused quite a lot of
controversy! So after that event, along with the
whole Robert Morgan story, I became the King of
Yu-Gi-Oh! Drama! Haha, and so now, I get random
people all the time now wanting to bet me! Most the
time I decline though cause they just aren’t that
attractive!
Ally: After all the betting would you consider
yourself the king of YGO! drama and why?
Jeff: Well after all the controversy with my first
bet, I was kind of just labeled that by people! Then
after my confrontation with Rob Morgan in Hamilton
made my story even more widely known. So even more
people knew about all my drama! So, really when
people started calling me the "Drama King" I just
went along with it too! So now every one waits at
every jump I attend for something full of drama to
occur!
Ally: Do you have any more bets lined up?
Jeff: Ah! Great question! Depending on if a certain
person shows up, there will be a bet at SJC
Minnesota! Also I’m trying to get a bet lined up
between me and Kyle Duncan but so far he won’t
budge! But I won’t stop trying, I can be very
convincing when I want something, and if I can’t get
it, I throw money at it to make it mine! There are a
few other known ygo players I wouldn’t mind making
bets with, but we will just have to wait and see
what happens!
Ally: What you think about the current banned list?
Jeff: Hmm well right now I think the list was better
then before, Banning Graceful and Breaker were very
good, but bringing back Snatch Steal was very very
bad, YGO is THE most unbalanced card game out there,
and unless Konami does something about it I believe
ygo will lose some of its players, as seen in the
past. Ring of Destruction needs to banned, for sure,
along with cards like Morphing Jar, and any other
card that says "I don’t care how much advantage you
have, I’m back in this game!" The goat format, and
I’m sure that every good ygo player would agree with
me, was the best format and took the most skill,
MINUS a few cards like Delinquent Duo and such. If
the format would go back to multiple goats, mst,
torrential, etc, this game would be infinitely
better.
Ally: Interesting. What card would you like to see
come back from the banned list?
Jeff: Painful choice is my all time favorite magic
card, its unbalance for sure, but I would still love
to be able to play it again.
Ally: Painful Choice is very unbalanced for sure,
but a fun card none the less. Um, what advice do you
have for the YGO! Players that just started this
game?
Jeff: Advice to all people NEW to YGO, Is that the
only way you can get better, is by watching and
PLAYING with people whom are better then you, going
to your local regionals is a great way to start out
cause you can get the feel of competition, and can
watch the cards people play and all the different
play styles people have. Also, playing online over
YVD can help a lot, you get access to every card
available, and there’s a lot of great players online
to play and test against.
Ally: That's really good advice Jeff. Ok one more
question for you, what is your favorite color?
Jeff: Actually I’m color blind so I don’t know what
REAL colors look like
Jeff: But mine is Cornflower Blue
Ally: I see. Thank you Jeff for doing this interview
with me. Can you please give a statement to the
people reading this article?
Jeff: AH HEM. Yu-Gi-Oh! is Serious Business
