Well, hello again, it's been awhile since my last tourney report, February I think. Yeah, It was the Michigan Regionals Tournament. I've got a new tourney report for you now. Here it is!
Ricky Haagsma, Steve Waits and I got up at about 9 am to get ready for the day of dueling. I was hoping to hit our local shop for the little tournament but Ricky didn't want to drive there. So, we left his house at about 11 am to head for Kalamazoo's Game Shop, where they have officially sanctioned tourneys. We got there and I entered, and filled out one of those annoying decklists. This day was for revenge, for the last week I went 2-2, and got 6th and didn't make the top four. Just so you know, they play four rounds of swiss, and then depending on the number of people, they go into the top eight or the top four. We waited around until about 12:30, when Evan Jones finally showed up, then a few others, and then they posted the first round matches. Here goes.......
First Round Me vs. Daniel Kelly (about 20)
1st Match- He tries to Last Turn me, but it doesn't work due to my lucky little book of Moon. Then he tries to Wall of Revealing Light me and then play Self-Destruct Button on me, so I just activated Ceasefire to finish it.
2nd Match- He sidedecked into an Exodia deck, thus screwing himself against my Morphing Jar, Don Zaloog, and my many other removal factors. He played out his hand too quickly and I got his stuff off the field and he was in top deck mode by turn two.
Second Round (My record 1-0) Me vs. Stephen Mcguire (about 8-9 yrs old)
1st Match- This is just a little kid, so I didn't go for the annhilation quickly, I let him play out his best combos he could and then ended it when I drew my Envoy.
2nd Match- He actually got a Serpent Night Dragon out on me, and I'm still baffled as to how he did that with me destroying everything so quickly. It actually slowed me down, until I got my Chaos Sorceror out and removed it.
Third Round (2-0) Me vs. Craig Pettis Jr. (?????)
1st match- Craig is pretty good, he runs a Tsuko-TER lock deck. He played his hand out way too quickly. He even trinitied me on his first turn and I still got out of it and ended up on top. He got me down to about 1500 though. That was a rough one.
2nd Match- He almost had me on this one, I was down to 800, and he was down to 2000, and I topdecked my Envoy, sealing the deal on his two monsters and his LP.
Fourth Round (3-0) Me vs. Jake Klomparens (13-14 yrs old)
1st Match- This kid was running a dimension deck that was very interesting to me. His D.D. Scout Planes surely annoyed me after I wasted my two Nobleman of Crossouts to get rid of them. But, his Messenger of Peace didn't stop my Don Zaloog from tearing his hand apart. It was game when I got Jinzo out and he kept topdecking traps.
2nd Match- He basically played the same things over again like in the last match. Except this time I didn't hit one single D.D. Scout Plane with my crossouts. This time I hit a Mag of Faith and a Reaper. Very interesting deck. I now want to try that deck.
Quarter-Finals (4-0) Me vs. Daniel Kelly (about 20)
1st Match- Last Turned me on my first turn.
2nd Match- Self-Destructed himself on turn three.
3rd Match- He side decked into Exodia, and what happened earlier happened again.
4th Match- He was done for by turn three.
Semi-Finals (5-0) Me vs. Steve Koelbel (about 30 something)
1st Match- I barely won with my Envoy being topdecked.
2nd Match- He beat me with his Envoy, while he was in top deck, sound similar?
3rd Match- On his last turn I had Breaker, Blade Knight, Sangan, and Kycoo on the field. He had no cards in hand and no cards on the field except Envoy of the Beginning, which he summoned. I was at 3500 LP and he said "game", and I said,"no do the battle phase.". He attacks my Breaker and Sangan, and he says "there!". "No", I said,"I'm at 100, you only did 3400, 2000 from sangan and 1400 from Breaker." He said fine, and I used Sangans effect to search out Exiled Force. Then, I drew Don Zaloog, summoned Exiled Force, popped of his Envoy off. Then I attacked him for the game. He got really pissed off and didn't even shake my hand for the duel. He would've probably won if had REMOVED the Sangan instead of attacking it.
Finals (6-0) Me vs. Jacob Naranjo (about 9 yrs old)
1st Match- I got Trinitied again for the second time in the day, and luckily I pulled off a Morphing Jar. I got Envoy and Chaos Sorceror out then, I summoned Kycoo, went into battle phase and removed his Jinzo and Envoy from the game with Kycoo's effect. He didn't top deck very much after that, and I won after a few more attacks.
2nd Match- I got TRINITIED AGAIN!!!!!!! I didn't have Morphing jar to save my ass that time. But, I pulled off a Pot of Greed, and got out Envoy for a quick kill. But the funniest thing that happened was when I set a D.D. Warrior Lady, he crossed it out and said, "That's where she belongs!". It was just funny hearing that from a little kid.
So, I won the tournament and got $15 store credit. I bought me a new deck box and I got 2 DB2 packs and pulled a Last Turn (for the second time that day), and a Graceful Charity. I was disappointed at those packs, I want a DECREE!!!!!!!!
Props: Me for winning a damn sanctioned tourney, it was about time. My friends for helping me with my deck (Evan and Rick)
Slops: For me to not getting at least a friggen super rare out of DB2 from 5 packs. For Good Steve losing to Bad Steve (inside story)
