RegnR8's FAOChaos
Tournament report for 8/21/05

Hi all,

Welcome to this week's tournament report. I hope this writing finds you well and winning!

There was another regional event held this weekend that I didn't attend. I had a corporate business function I had to attend. I am not going to attend any high level tournament competition until after the new ban list. Even then, depending on what decisions Konami makes, I may not attend any regional event. I must wait until the new ban list to decide wether or not I want to seriously pursue any type of goal involving this game.

The topic of much discussion among all of the higher level players at the tournament today involved the current sad state of the metagame. Luck has always played a factor in all games, but in Yugioh, luck is at least 90% of the reason why people win. There isn't much skill in drawing three cards in your opening hand that destroys your opponent. I think most of you know which three cards I'm referring to.

Since the battle position ruling changed, decks have become even more cookie cutter than ever. Decks are now so close to identical there is probably only a 5 card difference between a typical chaos build. It's ridiculous. Sure, there are people who try to play with different deck types, but when you play a person running a netdecked CCC build, your chances of winning plummet to almost nil. Blah, blah, yeah, yeah you can defeat chaos decks with (insert ridiculously retarted deck type or card here), but if you don't have all the cards you need in your hand when you need them, you are going to lose to the same ol' crap over and over again. Even the best players get wiped out because of stupid dumb luck and there's nothing you can do to defend otherwise.

Enough of the rant.

Well, even though Cybernetic Revolution wasn't really tournament legal today, the person who won didn't seem to care. Especially since this tournament is really rather pointless, because no one has entered the points in months anyway and I don't know why I keep going. It's an exercise in futility.

Enough of that rant, too.

I didn't care if I won or lost.

Oops, I feel another rant coming.

I've taken apart all of my decks and have cards scattered all over the place. I need to spend a week organizing them all. It is such a massive ordeal, everytime I start, I'm overwhelmed at the number of silly pieces of card board I actually own! LoL.

OK. This week, I decided to mix up a little CCC with some innovation. If I hadn't gotten creamed in the second round by a deck that wasn't tournament legal anyway, I could have tested this deck out a little more. I think the idea is solid, but here again, I didn't draw my cards before my opponent did. One game was really hysterical and ILMAO the way I lost.....

We got there about a half an hour early and I was shocked at some little kid who came up and was smart mouthing at a group of us. I had never seen anyone so disrespectful and smart-a** before in my whole life! This kid was probably nine years old and I wanted to slap him! What an arrogant little jerk. Where was his momma? He and his little homie were annoying.

I practiced duel against a Chaos deck (which wasn't very good but he managed to have BLS out on the third or fourth turn all the time). I won consistantly.

ROUND 1
FAOChaos VS Chaos

LOL. The first pairing is with the guy I've been beating the pants off while practicing. Hah.

GAME 1

He goes first and sets a monster and one S/T, which was his usual opening move when practicing. I make a mental note to side deck in the second Nobleman of Crossout.

My opening hand is pretty good with two Orcs, Ojama Trio, Snatch, Pot of Greed and Final Attack Orders. I activate Pot and get another FAO and Reflect Bounder. I set FAO and the Trio, summon the Orc and attack his set Spirit of the Harp. Yeah, I told you his deck wasn't very good.

He draws and sets another monster.

I draw Dark Driceratops and tribute for it, trampling his 700def Kycoo. LoL.

He Compulsories the Driceratops, Heavys my set cards and I chain the Ojama Trio. He summons an Archfiend Soldier, special summons BLS and attacks me for a flippin' lot. Ouch. 4900LP damage in one bite.

I draw Trunade, Snatch Steal his BLS and remove it from play with his effect. My opponent is like, "I didn't know you could do that." Well, now you know. Haha. I summon my second Orc, attack his Archfiend Soldier and set the Final Attack Orders.

He Fissures my Orc, summons a Newdoria and attacks me for 1200.

I activate Final Attack Orders, turning all the little Ojama Tokens to attack position with an attack of zero. I summon Reflect Bounder and attack a token for the game winning hit. Whee!!! That was fun.

GAME 2

I side deck in the second NoC for the Smashing Ground.

He sets one S/T and summons Don Zaloog. Ok, he's pretty confident in that set card, or he wants me to attack the Don to get it in the graveyard.

I activate Graceful, discard Call of the Haunted and Enemy Controller. I set Magician of Faith, Book of Moon and Ojama Trio.

He summons TiV and activates Tribute to the Doomed on my MoF (darn it, but he's dumping his hand). He attacks with TiV and I take it, I activate Book of Moon on Don's attack.

I draw Sangan, set it and Torrential.

He discards a Blade Knight for TiV's effect to put dark Don in the graveyard. He special summons BLS and I Torrential. He doesn't use priority to remove Sangan from play so hooray, I get a Magician of Faith. I'm not going to explain priority to him. Heheh. Is that cheating? Is that wrong? Is it my place to make sure my opponent understands all the rules? No, it isn't. If you're going to play in a tournament, you'd better know what you are doing.

I set the MoF and Final Attack Orders.

He flippin' Premature Burial's BLS and removes my Magician from play. Darn it.

I top deck Lightning Vortex! Hahah. Im losing and pay even more LP for Delinquent Duo but this takes his hand down to nothing.

He stalls three consecutive turns while he top decks a Compulsory, another Compulsory and a Waboku. That's annoying. On his fourth topdeck draw he gets nothing and I manage to finish him off.

ROUND 2

FAOChaos VS Cyberstein/Cyber Dragon/machine/nontournament legal deck

Ah, whatever. Nobody seems to care that we aren't suppose to be using cards from the new set so, I go with the flow. First off, I have to say everyone is peeing in their pants over this Cyberstein OTK junk and people, it ain't gonna work like you want it to all the time. This is the first of what I am sure will be many, many, many attempts at this deck. I will say, I did lose, but I did not lose to the OTK, nor did I lose to how the deck is SUPPOSE to run. I lost to sheer, LUCK and I defy anyone in the entire Yugioh world to tell me otherwise. I didn't lose to the deck build. I didn't lose to the skill of the player. I didn't lose because I made a mistake. I lost because he was lucky and I wasn't.

GAME 1

This is almost the funniest duel I have ever had. I get Ring, Heavy, Breaker, Orc, Duo and Sangan. I Duo a Mechanical Chaser and and he discards NoC. Well, thinking I'm pretty safe from his second NoC, I set Sangan and Ring.

He Noblemans my Sangan. Whatth?! Haha. That was funny. He doesn't do anything else.

I summon Giant Orc and he uses Enemy Controller to turn it to defense. I set Ojama Trio.

He activates Graceful Charity. He pays 800LP for Brain Control and I Ring my Orc to stop him from taking it. Darn it. He activates Swords.

I summon Breaker, remove the token to get rid of Swords and attack.

He sets a monster.

I draw Jinzo and tribute for him, attacking his Magician of Faith. Crap. Where's my Nobleman of Crossout? He gets Graceful Charity back.

He plays Graceful Charity. He discards Cyberstein and something else. He plays Pot of Greed. He special summons Cyber Dragon, the newest nearly broken card in the game. I haven't made up my mind yet if it really is totally broken. He uses Enemy Controller, tributing his Cyber Dragon to take my Jinzo. It's getting closer to broken, now. LoL. He Limiter's my own Jinzo, hitting me for 4800Lp damage and taking me down to 1600LP.

Well, he's used Graceful twice and Pot once and starts attacking me wit,h a Sinister Serpent. I can't draw a monster and to add insult to injury, he summons his Morphing Jar and starts attacking me with it! LoL. I summon Exiled Force to at least attack his Serpent and get rid of his Morphing Jar and he Mirror Forces me! I bust out laughing. That was too funny. He wins by beating me up with my own monster, a Sinister and Morphing Jar. Ahhhh....that was rich.

GAME 2

Nothing I could do. The Holy Trinity takes me out of the game before I even get to draw. I have no advantage. The odds of me recovering from that are about as slim as Osama Bin-Laden sharing a meal at Denny's with Jesus Christ. Delinquent Duo, Graceful, Pot, Graceful and Magician of Faith, just totally wipe me out in about three turns. Cyber Dragon lets him easily use Enemy Controller to take my Dark Driceratops. Magician of Faith gets his Enemy Controller back so he can attack me with my own monster twice in a row. He Mirror Forces me and Heavy Storms me.

That is stupid and pretty much sums up the state of the game right now. It's BS.

Ok, now onto the bright side of things. I actually liked the deck. I never once pulled the Asura Priest Big Bang Shot Ojama Trio Final Attack Orders combo, but I did get to hit a token now and then. It was actually pretty fun to run. I think next week, I am going to run as pure a beastdown trample deck as I can. Maybe even bring back the Pandas by popular demand. Not sure if I want to put the Priest in or not. We'll see.

After I got eliminated, we hung out and ate pizza. I dueled against the other deck flavor of the month everyone is touting as the greatest thing since sliced bread, the deck-out deck or, the mill deck. Listen to me people. I have been trying to make this deck type consistantly work for months and months. Just because Needle Worm is common and Morphing Jar is rare, the sudden availabilty of these cards DO NOT make the deck leap to the forefront of tournament play. As with any FTK, or OTK, or Deck out, or whathaveyou, the inherent weakness of these decks is their inability to consistantly perform. If you do not get the intended effect within two to three turns, you are going to lose!!!! They are fragile and easily countered if they do not go off very early in the duel.

Just to give you a brief synopsis of how these duels went down. Turn one. My opponent sets his Cyber Jar, the KEY card to this type of deck. I use Nobleman of Crossout on it and his deck crumbles. He manages to utilize the single Morphing Jar to good effect, but he decks himself out with it and I have three cards left in my deck he has none. I draw Pot of Greed, just to be funny play it, taking my deck to no cards and end my turn. Hah. He can't draw because he's already decked himself out. The second duel, he got it off and decked me out. GG. Third duel, NoC and Heavy Storm bust him up. Night Assailant eat his monsters, Enemy Controller steals his Morphing Jar and it collapses like a house of cards and I pummel him.

Thanks it for this week!

Until next time, happy dueling!
