Sand Sphinx vs. Life-Gain Chaos
Round 1- My first opponent was also my most difficult. This
was a very hectic battle going a follows. My opponent began
by playing Kycoo, a face up Soul Absorption and a face down
m/t. I set a Scarab, Waboku, and a Needle Ceiling, whereas
he activated a trap (can t remember name) which prevented
other traps from being activated, annnd I dropped my jaw. I
passed, and he played Reflect Bounder and attacked, removing
cards in my grave and gaining 1000 life. My turn came and I
drew and played Swords and set Locusts. He played Card
Destruction, another Soul Absorption, and a Soul Release on
me, gaining 5000 life. My turn came and I used Locusts to
destroy the trap and set a Des Lacooda. He then played a
Pitch Black Warwolf and tried to attack. At the end of his
main phase I used Needle Ceiling, and he ended his turn. I
used Locusts on his Cylinder, attacked, set a Pyramid of
Light and ended my turn. He brought out Black Luster Soldier
gaining 2000 and removed my locusts gaining 1000 more, and
revived reflect bounder, which I Wabokued. My turn- I set
one Pyramid Turtle and another Needle Ceiling. On his turn,
I activated the Ceiling immediately and he passed. I then
brought out both Andro and Teleia (Having used Lacooda this
whole time for loads of cards) and slowly whittled down his
life.
Round 2- It went almost like round one except My Lacoodas
were killed early so I lacked a card advantage. My Guardian
Sphinx held the field for a little bit, but he Premature
Burial d his BLS and removed Sphinx and everything else I
brought out.
Round 3- He began by dropping all three Soul Absorptions and
used a Soul Release early on for 7500 life (I kid you NOT),
but it left his hand bereft. I managed to fill my field with
reflippers and both Lacooda s. 2-1
Sand Sphinx vs. Sort of Dragon Deck
Round 1- My next opponent was pretty young and did a few
mistakes like using Torrential Tribute as a Dark Hole in
trap form. The problems came from his Fiber Jar which he got
in this match twice, keeping me from getting control. I
finally got out my Guardian Sphinx and proceeded to bounce
the infernal pot and began taking him down. I had already
used Ring twice because of it, so we were both pretty low.
Round 2- He started strong with a Lord of D. and flute,
bringing out Red-Eyes and Luster. I set a Royal Keeper and
Needle Ceiling(recurring evilness), and passed. He played
one more monster before I activated it, and he passed. I got
out a Teleia with a Pyramid and overran him from there.
Sand Sphinx vs. Skill Drain Deck
Round 1- One of the cards I had id d as my weakness
beforehand, I was semi-ready. He began by setting one
monster and three m/t. I then played Pot which he jammed,
Waboku which was MST d and a Needle Ceiling which was hit
with Dust Tornado. I set Cyber Jar and ended my turn. He
revealed a Cat of Ill Omen and put Skill Drain on top and
played a Jirai Gumo and passed. I flipped Cyber Jar, we both
set a few, me Swarms and him Mask of Darkness and Cat of Ill
Omens. I placed down a Pyramid and passed. He played Giant
Orc, flipped the other two face up activated skill drain,
and I Waboku d. I trunaded the Skill Drain and set another
Ceiling, and used it on his turn. A Heavy Storm cleared the
m/ts and I swarmed him.
Round 2- It went exactly like round one, except when he got
out Skill Drain, I brought out Andro and Teleia and set a
Jammer in case. He never did ry to destroy the Pyramid and
switched the Orcs and GAF s to defense. I overran him with
them for the win.
Sand Sphinx vs. Evil Jinzo Guy
Round 1- I actually don t remember this round too much
because of number two and three.
Round 2- Things were bad from the start. He got out a Jinzo
equipped with a Baou and was negating everything I pulled.
Pyramid of Light was useless, Pyramid Turtle and Cyber Jar
were equally useless. Loss
Round 3- I remember this match verry clearly. He used cards
such as Slate Warrior and Dark Necrofear. I had to use three
Needle Ceilings, twice on Dark Necrofear. She never did have
a viable target because everything was face down. At the end
he used Breaker to destroy one of my facedown Waboku. On my
turn I activated Pyramid, played Teleia and 2 Andro, I had a
Lacooda face down and used Book of Moon on one Andro, and
activated Needle Ceiling to kill the rest. I brought out
Theinen and hit him with the Theinen and Lacooda for 7000,
he had been previously undamaged. He summoned Tribe and
killed Theinen. I then flip summoned the other Andro and hit
him for 1400.
Sand Sphinx Deck vs. Life Gain Chaos (again)
Honestly, I bowwed out at this point. It was top winners
bracket vs. top losers bracket.
I had already played him once, and I accpeted second place.
<Evil Grin> While he was finishing up his final match I took
my store credit and nabbed the Jinzo I had been eying up
during the tournament. It hadn t been set out for sale yet
(a recent acquisition of the store) and was going to be
marked for only $13. 2nd place was $15 store credit, soooo.
I had my reasons.
It was a pretty exciting tournament. The deck had worked
great in casual duels and this was it s first tournament
test. The tournament had 20 or so people and held to all
official restrictions and bannings. I was not disappointed
in the least.
Highs- My wondrous movie cards and the person who, after
seeing Des Lacooda summoned by Pyramid Turtle, breathed a
sigh of relief and said That s a zombie?
Lows- Those darn BLS and Jinzos
