Beatdown Control
TBS Comics
5/14/05
8 people today
3 rounds of Swiss then top 4, 1 pack for each person awarded
70/30 to 1st and 2nd (5-3 today)
Sorry for no report last week, I dropped everyone off and
went to get new strings for my bass (which I'd spent 2 hours
the previous night cleaning), and I restringed it in the
store. Plus my Mirror Force and Sinister were lent out, and
I'm definitely not playing without those.
Anyway, I almost ran Zombies again. The team each had a
Zombie Phoenix deck as of Sunday (friend pulled a Phoenix
last week) but my bro reverted to his "normal" Phoenix deck,
Nick went back to Monarch/Morph (though he kept Phoenix in
it), and I changed to Zombie Chaos then back to this deck,
since it gets *crazy* top decks and hands.
The decklist:
Monsters (17):
x1 Airknight Parshath
x3 Berserk Gorilla
x1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
x1 D. D. Warrior Lady
x1 Jinzo
x1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
x2 Magician of Faith
x3 Nimble Momonga
x1 Sangan
x1 Sinister Serpent
x1 Spirit Reaper
x1 Tribe-Infecting Virus
Traps (6):
x2 Bottomless Trap Hole
x1 Call of the Haunted
x1 Mirror Force
x1 Ring of Destruction
x1 Torrential Tribute
Spells (17):
x1 Book of Moon
x1 Creature Swap
x1 Delinquent Duo
x1 Enemy Controller
x1 Graceful Charity
x1 Heavy Storm
x1 Lightning Vortex
x1 Mystical Space Typhoon
x2 Nobleman of Crossout
x1 Pot of Greed
x1 Premature Burial
x2 Scapegoat
x1 Smashing Ground
x1 Snatch Steal
x1 Swords of Revealing Light
Sidedeck:
x1 Exiled Force
x2 King Tiger Wanghu
x1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
x2 Mobius the Frost Monarch
x1 Mystic Swordsman LV2
x1 Bottomless Trap Hole
x1 Ceasefire
x1 Divine Wrath
x2 Dust Tornado
x1 Sakuretsu Armor
x1 Windstorm of Etaqua
x1 Creature Swap
FYI, Bottomless > Compulsory, since I can just throw in
Ceasefire for extra face-down control. The sidedeck is
mainly geared against Horus decks
**Round 1 vs. Cody w/ Phoenix**
Match 1 - Got Graceful twice thanks to Magician of Faith
plus an otherwise awesome hand including Delinquent. Kycoo-ed
his Phoenix too. The LP went:
Me: 8000-7000-6700
Him: Didn’t keep track, probably scooped
Match 2 - Put in a Kycoo for a Berserk. This time he got the
upper hand, plus I goofed by using Book of Moon on his
Phoenix while Swords was still on the field, and even 3
Nimble’s couldn‘t save me after that.
Me: 8000-7000-4800-5800-6800-7800-1300-Game via top decked
DDWL.
Him: Again, didn’t keep track for some reason.
Match 3 - Drew a god hand and he basically scooped. The only
LP notes I took was me paying 1000 for Delinquent.
**Round 2 vs. ? w/ 49-card Fiend deck**
Match 1 - He runs 49 cards (I pile shuffle to count and
because it wrecks people‘s shuffling methods), and I’m
pretty sure most of the extra 8-9 are traps. Anyway I got
out an early Jinzo after he Ringed some 1600 (99% sure it
was his Breaker), which killed his traps. He sat on a Reaper
until I Snatched it to kill it and attacked for 6000 (Jinzo,
Breaker and Berserk). Played another Berserk a turn after
that and it was game. The sad part was he drew traps 5 turns
in a row when I Heavy-ed 3 w/ Jinzo out.
Me: 8000
Him: 8000-6400-400-Game
Match 2 - I forget the majority of this game, but I remember
playing Jinzo, getting it killed, and Calling it when he
played Heavy Storm (my "signature" move, along with Calling
a Sangan when someone Heavy’s) mid-game. He ended up
Delinquent-ing my Delinquent late game and something minor,
though I had control the entire time.
Me: 8000-7000-8000
Him: 8000-7000 (must’ve Ringed a
Nimble)-6200-5200-3300-1300-300-Game
**Round 3 vs. Nick w/ Monarch/Morph/Phoenix**
Rolled a d6 to see who’d get scooped to, I won. We were both
in top 4 anyway so it didn’t matter.
Pairing for top 4 were called, me vs. Jay, Nick vs. the guy
I faced 2nd round.
**Semis vs. Jay w/ Agent Chaos w/ other Swarm stuff**
My bro made this deck for him, basically for the sheer fact
that Agent and Mystic Shine Balls are broken with United We
Stand and because they’re lights. He only runs 2 Chaos
Sorcerers though, as he won’t buy a BLS online for some
reason (though he offered $40 for my crappy one I traded a
while back). It beat Cody second round, ensuring he didn’t
get into the top 4.
Match 1 - Got Delinquent and Magician of Faith, played
Delinquent first turn. He attacked MoF and I got back
Delinquent to use again. He Nobleman-ed 1 Nimble, so when he
hit one it only let me gain 1000 as I tributed the other for
Airknight. He got a Ben Kai Sakuretsu-ed and everything else
dealt with quite nicely.
Me: 8000-6000-7000-5400-4600
Him: 6000-6400-6300-5300-2500-Game
Match 2 - Got Delinquent and Pot, drew into a Graceful. With
2 Magician of Faith I got Graceful 3 times, and only got
good stuff the 3rd time around. It was definitely game after
that.
Me: 8000-6400-6100
Him: 8000-6400-5800-3800-Scoop
**Finals vs. Nick**
We would’ve just randomly chosen who scooped, but we had a
deal where the winner got first dibs on the weighed pack
(which worked against me, but w/e) so we played.
Match 1 - You all know by now that I never remember our
exact duels, especially since he’d been staying at my house
for the past 2 weeks and since we’re both out of school we
play tested a lot. I did keep LP notes though.
Me: 8000-7000-4600-4200
Him: 8000-7000-6200-3800-1400-Game
Match 2 - Same deal, only LP notes. This was the one that
took forever, easily 25 minutes.
Me: 8000-7000-6000-4200-2700-1900-300-1300
Him: 8000-7000-5200-4900-3900-Game somehow, since I didn’t
have a 3rd round’s set of notes
So I won. I got 5 packs and Nick got 3. Weighed out 2
possible holos. I opened one, got Phoenix Wing Wind Blast
somehow. He got Blast Magician. Everyone split the other 2
packs.
Props:
-The TO for always having a top 4 from now on.
-My deck for working better than any Zombie and/or Chaos
deck I’ve ever run. This’ll definitely be going to the
Regionals in Mobile, Alabama May 22nd.
-Sold my 2 extra packs for $5, which was good since I got
the entry fee from selling a Thestalos for $3 so there was
no loss from my pocket today.
-Sold Nick my Star Wars minis stuff, and he traded the
awesome piece (Mace Windu) for the shooter (aka non-starter)
General Grievous.
-Nick got top 4 in the Star Wars minis game later that
night, which was Commander format (only 1 unique) with said
Grievous/Droid army.
-Hopefully I’ll have both a normal report and a Regionals
report next week!
Slops:
-My bro complained about being "short changed" by only
getting 2 packs when he didn’t even get into top 4, and he
kept complaining for the rest of the day, even when I picked
up Nick from the Star Wars tourney. Plus he pulled an
ultimate Vortex in one of the packs!
-Konami for making Ultimates weigh equal to rares, and
otherwise making rare packs sneak into the upper weights.
-From now on it’ll be every man for himself, though we’re
still pooling mass commons and rares along with loans and
the like. We’ve recruited Jay into the circle as well,
though he’s just pooling mass rares for now.
-Might not be able to drive everyone to Regionals if Nick
brings his gf, but we’ll see.
-HTML for auto-double spacing when saved from Word or Works,
thus I must email my report instead of saving it. TXT wraps
weird too.
Paul Reinhardt
FFTARoxorz05@aol.com, if anyone who can get Works or Word to
save in html format right, please email me about how to do
it!
