This is my first tournament report, and probably the only
one I may do for awhile, being that I hardly get a chance to
attend tourneys in my area. Not only because there are only
two places that run tournaments here (One that does Advanced
and the other Traditional (P.S. Traditional Sucks)), but on
the days the stores run tournaments I work. I ve been
wanting to attend an organized tournament for awhile now,
especially since the introduction of Advanced Format. I love
field control; I think it is the best way to victory.
Control the field and you can control the game. So here is
my deck.

**This deck involves a little luck, especially when it comes
to Roulette Barrel and Blowback Dragon, but if you can get
them to work, you can gain decent field control.
I brought my brother with me since we both had never been to
an organized tournament before. On the way to the tourney we
got caught up in some construction, had to take a detour,
and we were almost late for the tourney. We paid our $4 and
they gave us a choice of packs. Both I and my brother picked
a TP5 pack.
Round 1: Me vs. John
Match 1- John was a regular at these tourneys and was
running a Fire/Burn deck. Unfortunately for him his deck
wasn t that well put together and I owned the field all
match with Roulette Barrel, finishing him off by rolling a 3
on the dice to get rid of his Raging Flame Sprite.
Match 2- This time he got 2 Flare Dragons out, but Snatch
Stole my Roulette Barrel, so I set my Golem Sentry and sent
whatever card he put down back to his hand, and stalled
since the gain from Snatch and the loss from the Dragons was
the same, until I drew some of my heavy monsters to put him
away and win the game. 1-0
Round 2: Me vs. a good kid with a Beatdown Control Deck
Match 1- I never caught his name but this kid was way
younger than I was, and man could he play the game. I don t
really remember too much from this match, but I know that I
used Airknight on his Fox Fire at least twice to draw some
cards and then used Autonomous to summon one of his monsters
and take the match. Lucky for me I ended the match when I
did because the next card he drew could have set up a chain
reaction that could have cost me the match.
Match 2- I don t remember too much about this one either,
other than I had a crappy starting hand and never recovered.
Good thing I won the first match.
Match 3- I got a little nervous at this point, and decided
to drop a Momonga and side deck in the Soldier of Chaos,
since he fit just fine into the deck with a good mix of
Light and Darks in the main deck. Again, I don t really
remember too much about this match, but I did get the
Soldier out and picked him apart for the win. 2-0
Round 3: Me vs. some guy and his Zombie Deck
Match 1- I didn t catch this guys name either, and when I
realized he was running a Zombie Deck I thought for sure I
was finished. I kept the Soldier in the Main Deck and from
this point on, never took him out. He got Vampire Lord out
right away with Call of the Mummy and hit me 2 turns in row
causing me to lose 2 traps, but I recovered when I sent his
Vampire lord to the graveyard with the Goblins and then used
some field control to win the match.
Match 2- He got Vampire Lord out again, but again I knocked
him off with the Goblins and lost a few other cards. He then
played Book of Life and instead of removing my only Dark
monster in the Graveyard he removed the Goblins so he could
summon his Despair from the Dark and attack. This ended up
costing him because I drew a Snatch Steal, and I already had
the Soldier in my hand along with a United We Stand. So I
Snatch Stole his Despair and that left him with only a
Pyramid Turtle, I then summoned the Soldier and equipped him
with United We Stand. I attacked his Turtle he then summoned
Ryu Kokki which I attacked again with the Soldier and then
finished him off with his own Despair form the Dark locking
up a place in the Finals. 3-0
**My brother had done well up to this point, but ended up
losing in this round to a guy with a really good Exodia
Deck, missing his opportunity to be in the semi s.
Round 4- Bye
**I had to await the winner of the guy with the Exodia Deck
and a guy with a Horus/Chaos Deck to see who I would face in
the Finals since there were an odd number of people.
Finals: Me vs. Marcos
Match 1- Marcos was the guy who ran the Horus/Chaos Deck. I
can t really say that the deck was really based around Horus
and the Soldier because he had a lot of little surprises
including a Needle Worm and he utilized an Abyss Soldier by
discarding Sinister Serpent to destroy monsters. Anyway, on
with the match. At the beginning of the match I played my
Roulette Barrel, which I haven t mentioned too many times up
to this point, but had cleared the way in many duels for me.
He Snatch Stole it and then tried to kill it, but couldn t
roll a 4, and I had a good defense going so I just inherited
1000 Life Points each turn, and drew cards until my Life
Points reached 12,500 and then he finally got rid of my
Roulette Barrel by rolling a 4. He slowly chipped away at my
life points while I ate away at his, and I finally won.
Match 2- This match was back and forth. He had a huge
Graveyard going and couldn t draw his Soldier, and when he
did, and he tried to play him I just bounced him back to his
hand with Compulsory. He did get Horus LV6 out but I killed
it off and Autonomous d it my next turn, but he kept forcing
me to attack his Reflect Bounder so I lost 4600 Life Points
just doing that. I did get the Soldier out but he rammed
D.D. Warrior Lady into him and removed him from play. To end
the match I sacrificed his LV6 Horus and played Ha Des and
with a Giant Orc on the field attacked his face down monster
with Ha Des, so he couldn t get an effect if there was one,
and then ended it with a blow from the Orc. 4-0
** I ve waited so long to get to play in a tourney and I
finally did and won, going 8-1 during all of my tournament
matches, which was a huge accomplishment for me. As for my
brother, he had fun, and it was a good experience for him
even though he may not have placed 1st, I m sure he was ok
with 4th. And even though I didn t get a prize, it was the
fact that I got to be with other people who love the game
just as much as I do and get to duel. Hopefully this isn t
the last one I write, so until next time..
