Saturday May 14th 2005

1x Bottomless Trap Hole

2x Kinetic Soldier
2x Mystic swordsman lv.2
2x Book of Moon
The first round I faced Pat, a very good duelist whom I have
lost to the last 3 weeks in a row. He was running a hybrid
DD Dynamite/Chaos deck, but I managed to go 2-0 against him,
finally! The first game I got a Delinquent Duo right away,
which helped me win, because I took away his last two cards.
I don't remember the duels well, I just tried to beat him
down as quickly as possible before he had enough cards out
of play to inflict mega damage with his DD Dynamites.
Second round I faced Zach and his Return from the Different
Dimension deck, which Scapegoats saved my hide, on more than
one occasion.
It went win, loss, win for me. On to the 3rd round!
The 3RD round I faced Mike a.k.a. SoulShark on these boards.
I got to go up against his Silent Purgatory deck vs.3.0
featured on the deck discussion board. I side decked for him
immediately, knowing my spells may be worthless, so I threw
in my extra Bottomless and a couple Sakuretsu Armors. I
anticipated his moves pretty well, and every time he
summoned a swordsman lv. 5 or 7 I would Bottomless it out of
the game or Sakuretsu it's attack. The duels did'nt last
long. I had field control and hand advantage the whole time.
The fourth and final round I faced Gus and his warrior deck.
The first round I beat him pretty quickly, leaving me pretty
quickly about the match. Until the second duel. I lost to
his Ring of destruction, leaving me with no way to stop it
and a loss on my hands. This was for 1st and 2nd place. No
pressure, we were now tied 1 to 1. Then I realized he was
running warriors too! Aha! I side decked in my 2 kinetic
Soldiers, replacing my DD Assailants. The 3rd duel was back
and forth. He got in a Delinquent Duo early on, depleting my
options. I think I had 2 cards in hand then. I managed to
even out the hands a bit with a couple good hits with Don
Zaloog, which also left me open with a vulnerable Donny on
the field, that he took full advantage of attacking with his
jinzo. The duel was tense, me topdecking at one point, then
Scapegoat buying me a couple extra turns to catch up. Then,
it happened. I drew my Kinetic soldier. I blasted his
warrior (I don't remember which, just calculating that weird
3150 attack). That brought his life points down low. I still
had about 3600 at this point. He draws. He sets a face down
spell/trap then ends his turn not wanting to attack into my
Kinetic soldier. I draw ring of destruction, attack directly
then set my Ring. He draws, and I activate my ring on my own
Kinetic Soldier for the win!
It was a fun day, I dueled some very good opponents.
Congrats to all for putting up a good fight!
Some thoughts on the tournament: I think this format is
closer to traditional than the previous advanced formats.
Delinquent Duo, especially when combined with a Pot of
Greed, and/or Graceful Charity usually means G.G.
With all the mass removal cards now available, hand
advantage has once again become one of the most important
factors in winning. The above mentioned cards should be
included in nearly every deck(with some freakish exclusions)
and at least one other hand advantage card such as don
Zaloog, Spirit reaper etc.
My side deck was invaluable in my winning the Tournament. To
all those players who do not consider the side deck
important or as important as their main deck I strongly
disagree! It is a very powerful weapon, to use against all
types of decks. My side deck is built to counter the various
decks in my meta, so don't just copy it, but build your own
to counter the decks in your area.
That's my report! Contact me Lucifer, a.k.a Scientist Magic
