Before the tournament I dueled using my new Exchange of Spirit deck. It didn’t work out too well. It lost to Steven, but won against Josh. I could’ve done better, but it still needs work.
Round 1: Kevin D. vs. Eric
Eric is still new here in Union, and I got to play. I knew he was running a water deck so I was thinking about my side deck ahead of time.
Game 1: He opened with A Legendary Ocean and a face down monster. I used confi. I summoned DDA and attacked into a Yomi ship. Next turn he set a face down S/t. I premyed back DDA, and he chained Gravity Bind. Play stalled a few turns, until I drew RoA, and used it to fetch LV 2. I used it to attack directly, and kept hiding behind serval of my monsters until I summoned Spirit Reaper and used it to Eliminate his hand. Next turn I summoned Breaker, and broke his Gravity Bind, and then started the On slught with my CoHed Cyber Dragon and I can’t remember how it got into the G-yard.
Me: 8000, 7000, 6200 Eric: 8000, 7100, 6300, 5100, 3500, 2100, 0
Game 2:
I side decked another LV 2 and my Injection Fairy Lily. 3400 under Gravity bind, couldn’t do me wrong. He went first and set a card in each zone and played A Lengendary Ocean. I summoned LV 2 and killed his face down and set a Dust Tornado. In his Draw phase he Msted, and I chained Dust to kill his A Legendary Ocean. He Summoned Familiar Spirit Eria and attacked my LV 2. Next turn I snatched Eria, Summoned Don Zaloog and dropped Gagigo from his hand. Next turn he suicided into Mother Grizzley into Don and got Mother Grizzly. Next turn I Summoned Breaker, and broke his Saku. Attacked Grizzly, and he got Yomi Ship, which I attacked with Familiar Eria to kill it. Next turn he summoned MK3 and attacked directly. I summoned Cyber Dragon attacked into a Saku, activated CoH, and got back CD and killed MK3. Next turn Cyber Dragon got a clean shot at his lpts. Then he played Pot of Avarice, and drew two cards and set one. I summoned Exiled, tributed it got the kill, and attacked for game.
Round 2: Kevin D. vs. Josh Morris
There are times I actually dread playing Josh, and this week he was running a Gravekeeper’s deck. I hate dueling those, even though I love a good Gravekeeper’s deck. Luckily I have a standard set of cards I side deck for these decks. Game 1: The first turn he set one in each zone. I drew, played Cyber Dragon and attacked into a Spy. He searched out another spy. Then on his turn he set a face down. I drew and made a misplay. I should’ve summoned LV 2, but instead I summoned my lady and attacked into a Guard. This move eventually cost me the game. I couldn’t come back.
Me; 8000, 7600, 6800, 5300, 3300, 1300, 0 Josh: 8000, 7500, 5700,
Game 2: Alright here we go again. I side decked two bottomless trap hole’s, another LV2 and IFL (I’m beginning to wonder why I didn’t main deck that.) My opening hand made me a little sick to the stomach. (Or maybe it was just the college cafeteria I had for lunch coming back to haunt me.) Examining my options I couldn’t find much open to me. I played Brian control, summoned Don Zaloog, and gained card advantage. After a few turns I summoned Cyber Dragon and used him and Drillriod to wear him down. But for a minute there I thought he had me.
Game 3: I wasn’t finished with Josh yet. Josh went first and set face down. I summoned LV 2 and attacked his face down Mystic Tomato. He summoned Sangan, and killed my LV 2 I RoAed into my lady and removed his Sangan. He drew and didn’t do anything. I summoned Survivor and attacked directly. He Smashed my Survivor with Smashing ground, and smacked me with Exiled Force. I summoned and killed it with Cyber Dragon. The I confi, and dropped the other Smashing Ground. Then I summoned Spirit Reaper and C.D. for game.
Round 3:
I was playing David. Seeing as I’ve only played David twice in all the time I’ve known him. We’ve been playing in the same tournaments for two years, and we’ve traveled to Shonen Jumps and Regional’s together, but we’ve only played each other one other time.
Game 1: To start off David set a face down S/t. I summoned LV 2 and attacked. David followed up with Brain Control, sacked my LV 2 for Jinzo, attacked and used Limter removal taking me down to 3200. It hurt. I summoned Survivor and went in hard and face. He followed up with smashing and set a face down. I summoned Breaker and broke his face down NoC. I attacked his face down Magician of Faith. He got back Limiter Removal. Next turn he used Smashing ground, summoned Drillroid, attacked, Limitered into game.
I launch into my side deck and throw in two Legendary jujitsu master’s and Threaten roar.
I honestly don’t remember the rest of the match, but I won. I had to concentrate. I do remember my Side deck cards didn’t make a difference. Round 4:
Kyle pulled what I considered an upset against Jack. So that meant I had to play against him in round 4. It was a strange beatdown deck.
Game 1: Kyle opened with two cards face down on the back field. I drew and studied the situation, and opened with Heavy Storm killed Torrential and Scapegoat which he chained. Using a steady line of DDA and Breaker I cleared three goats over the next two turns. The Kyle played Dark hole. He attacked with Spirit Reaper, and I lost a Don. I defended with a Spirit Reaper, and Smashed his. He summoned Lei Lei and attacked it. I snatched Lei Lei, and Premyed out Don, and forced him into top deck. He gained 1000. he then snatched my Don and killed Lei Lei. I summoned DDA and killed my Don. He top decked nothing, so I CoHed Don, and finished him off from there.
Game 2: This game was quick fast and to the point. So fast that my notes are illegible. I won though.
Finals Round 1:
I played Jack, but again I can’t read my notes. He was running a Chaos deck, and due to the field control that Sorcerer can give I lost duel 1. Duel 2 I won, and duel 3 Jack killed me.
Now for Props and Slops:
Props: Hardee’s for letting us have a tournament. My team for always giving me good games. David for giving me the best game I’ve played in months.
Slops: Pulling Nothing out of my pack. Now I remember why I hated AST.
