Tournament Reports

Subject: "The Tournament in the Twilight Zone" by Jason
Reeves
Hello all. First off, to all those that responded to my
Strategy Section article, Thank you for your response and
encouragement. I have received 50 e-mail responses from
people around the world (Jamaica, Canada, England, New
Jersey) You know, strange and exotic places. Most of my
responses (except for 2 and 1 gramatical correction) have
been possitive feedback in support of the Ban List and my
article. So with that said, I am sorry I cannot respond to
all of your e-mail, but I hope that this Thank You is
sufficient.
THANK YOU.
Anyway back to the Tourney.
Firstly I would like to thank Mr. Bob at the Game Zone in
Jackson, MS's Northpark Mall for holding the tournament and
putting up with screaming kids of ages 9 - 39 for 4 hours.
This one happened to be on Saturday, October 1
in traditional format XP *bleh.
My Deck:
Mobius the Frost Monarch
Morphing Jar
Goblin Attack Force x 3
Gren Maju x 2
Bannisher of the Light x 2
Goblin Elite Attack Force
Magician of Faith
Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer x 2
Cyber Jar
DD Assailant
Bazoo the Soul Eater
Chaos Rider Gustoph
Sangan
Peten the Dark Clown x 2
Injection Fairy Lily
Mystical Space Typhoon
Soul Absorbtions x 3
Skull Lair
Heavy Storm
Dimmension Fusion x 2
Bottomless Trap Hole x 2
Raigeki
Pot of Greed
Graceful Charity
Dark Hole
Torrential Tribute
Dust Tornado
Soul Release
Ring of Destruction
Traditional Format of course, but some wierd rulings.
The Upper Deck Card Ruling site says nothing about Skull
Lair or Soul Release having to only remove monsters and the
card CLEARly says CARDS, but the ruling of the official
judge stands at the tourney. They also ruled that attacking
with Yata while your target has no cards and no field is an
automatic victory. It is not. The target had enough
lifepoints that the Yata user would have run out of cards
before the target ran out of LP. They ruled in the Yata
player's favor and cost the poor target the duel.
Alex H. vs. Me
*sigh* Anyway, after getting my deck a bit more Traditional
2.0 compliant, I faced my first opponent. I won the first
duel with a strict beatdown fassion (No fancy removing), but
the last two went to him (it was during this duel I
discovered the new rulings, I was unprepared.) Alex H. 2 /
Me 1
I did some strategic trading and got my deck into the list
you see above and proceded to the next duel.
Unknown Yata Locker vs. Me
My deck worked like a dream. I had Banisher on the field
with 2 Soul Absorbtions and then Raigekied his field of 3
and MST his one face down M/T.
I gained 3000 for the monsters removed, 1000 for the M/T
card removed, 1000 for the MST removed, and 1000 for the
Raigeki removed. For a grand total of 6000LP gained. I then
played Gren Maju at 4000 Attack and attacked directly then
Ring of Destructioned him for game. The second duel went
faster and I beat him with strict beat down (GAF's and
GEAF's). Unknown 0 / Me 2
Unknown Yata Locker vs. Me
Had a bit of a scare as I had a Soul Absobtion on the field,
a Banisher in FU Attack, and a Ring of Destruction face
down. He attack my banisher with Yata and I ringed it,
removing it from play and gaining me 1000 LP (500 for Yata,
and 500 for Ring). He all but gave up after that. It was
really sad how many people at this tourney relied on that
stinking crow. The second duel never saw Yata and he even
blew up a CED, but I had already gotten to 14000 LP so it
did not do much except clear the field for Injection Fairy
Lily. Unknown 0 / Me 2
Alex H. vs. Me (2)
Yes. It was him. The one that beat me in my weakened and
bewildered state after hearing the new rulings, but he did
not know I had done some trading and improved my strategy.
He had not won a duel since beating me, so on my way back to
the winners bracket and his way down to the losers, we met
again. This time around, things were different. GAF's ran
wild. Banisher removed almost EVERYTHING he threw at me
making me stronger and Gren Maju bigger. After a bit of
ramming big monsters into him he fell. Twice. Alex H. 0 / Me
2
My final score was 7 wins and 2 losses. It was the second
highest score, but
2 guys were undefeated so they shared 1st, so I got 3rd. $10
credit to add to the $34 I had from trade. I bought the 2
Dimension Fusions during the duels, and 5 packs of CRV (I
pulled and Ultimate Rare UFORoid and Ultimate Rare Cyber
Dragon).
Pros: Placing 2nd/3rd. Defeating the guy that beat me.
Pulling some great cards in packs. Being able to place with
all the wierd rulings.
Cons: Running into some Twilight Zone rulings.
After the tourney, I made my deck Ban List Compliant and bit
more resistant to Beast and Beatdowns.
