Subject: Local Brookhaven, MS Tourney "Hamon: Round 2" by
Jason "Pippin"Reeves
The weekly local Brookhaven, MS Tournament at the Computer
Place was held this Saturday, April 8. New decks appeared as
if by magic. The new ban-list held its sway on the first
post-ban Saturday Tourney on the 1st of April, and changes
were made to change with it. The big hitter Raphael,
Stein/Power Bond deck, did not show up clearing the way for
another finalist. 2 new players, older than the average
participant, looked like heavy favorites to win or at least
place.
Again, Hamon has made is return fresh from a debut tourney
victory. Players have adjusted and added a bit more magic
destruction to their decks. One player changed his whole
deck from an Uria burn, to a Barrel Dragon/ Gatlin Dragon
machine deck. Uria sits lonely gathering dust in the guts of
Tradebait Binder number 2. This tourney would tell if Hamon
was truely dominant, or just a twisted sickening kink in
fate.
FIRST the deck.

3 x Lava Golem
2 x Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder
Non-Tribute Monsters = 13
3 x Stealth Birds
2 x Spirit Reapers
2 x Ebon Magician Curran

2 x Des Lacooda
2 x Mystic Tomatoes
Spells = 18
3 x Messenger of Peace
2 x The Dark Door
2 x Toll
2 x Swords of Conceiling Light
2 x Wave-Motion Cannon
1 x Level Limit Area B
1 x Scapegoats
1 x Swords of Revealing Light
1 x Mystical Space Typhoon
1 x Graceful Charity
1 x Premature Burial
1 x Giant Trunade
Traps = 4
2 x Gravity Bind
2 x Royal Decree
Round 1:
Played a kid. Confident little sucker, I'll give him that.
He ran a 33 card deck, so he had to add cards, but had no
card sleaves, so we had to take all his cards out of sleaves
and he played without. Once we got started, it did not take
long for me to set a Spirit Reaper, give him a Lava Golem,
play Level Limit Area B, and start flipping Stealth Birds.
Short Duel, and a perplexed looking duelist on the raw end
of a flip burn
1:0
Round 2: Casey and the Machines
Casey's deck used to be the Uria burn deck, but he wisely
changed to the Machine Dragons (Barrel and Blowback). I had
him locked down tight flipping and burning at will. Until he
Heavy Stormed, Played Blowback dragon and targeted my spirit
reaper. After a few failed attempts to stall (I think he had
a double headed quarter), I fell to his attacks. Sadly I
moved to the losers bracket (and a 30 minute wait for the
bracket to catch up to me.)
1:1 >:( evil casey
Round 3: Evil Dead's Warrior Deck
Can't remember the guys name, but he wore an Evil Dead
T-shirt with ash on the front, so I instantly took him for
cool. His warrior deck was pretty forward, get em out, beef
em up, ram em through. Unfortunately enough, my deck is
built to stop said strategy. After a bit of stalling and
flipping and smacking around, I came out ahead (2 face down
Stealth Birds, 1 Face up Curran, Wave-Motion cannon on 2nd
round, and he had 3 monsters on the field that could not
attack because of Messenger of Peace). Evil Dead Dude is
re-Dead Dude.
2:1
Round 4: Another Nameless wonder (Spellcasters).
He starts well, but cannot seem to get what is needed.
Everytime he would set monsters in anticipation of future
effects, I would give him a Lava Golem with a stall on the
field. I set Stealth Birds and play Wave-Motion. After 4
turns with Wave on the field, I flip my last bird and blow
up WMC for game. Nifty deck, just needs a bit of tuning.
3:1
Round 5: Casey and his Unbeaten Machines
Ok. By this point, other people are suspicious of Casey
having a Double Headed Quarter :P BUT he shows it and it is
indeed a regular quarter (he was just INCREDIBLY Lucky). I
start off well, which is good because I have to beat him
twice, seeing as how I have lost, and he has not. So I get a
good lock going and finally finish him off even with his
precious Blow Back Dragon on the field (which he disposed of
after I summoned Hamon and attacked it face up, to which he
chained Limiter Removal KILLING my hard earned Hamon). Oh
well. I still won.
4:1
Round 6 FINALS : Casey again.
I start out strong with lots of stall and a bit of burn. He
gets out Barrel Dragon and will not let me keep a monster on
the field, but he cannot attack because of stall cards. I
play Swords of Conceiling light and turn his Barrel Dragon
Facedown, allowing me a little repreave from his flipping
onslaught. I end by setting a Stealth bird with him having
1500 LP left. With BD face down for 2 turns, I actually had
a chance to end it here, that is until he played the
Polymerization. He brought out Gatlin Dragon and started to
grab his quarter. I only had Messenger and Gravity Bind out
with Swords of Conceiling Light. He summoned Mechanical
Chaser along with his Gatlin Dragon and I KNEW I was
finished because of his lucky streak with flips. 2 Heads and
this game will be swung in his favor probably for game. He
flips, TAILS, he flips again, TAILS! and once more
TAILS!!!!!!! I was over joyed! His luck had run out. He ends
and I draw MY SAVIOR! LAVA GOLEM! I give a Lava Golem for
his Gatlin and Mechanical Chaser! I flip Stealth Bird taking
him to 500LP and end. He draws, hits the standby phase and
takes 1000 damage for GAME!!!! Hamon fights back from an
upsetting loss to the very person he beats in the finals. $5
and pack are MINE!
Props: Hamon wins on the second outing.
Mr. Freels for continuing to hold tournaments
All who participated.
Brody for helping with the tourney and for bringing Hamon
Fodder.... I mean friends :)
Cons: Losing one round to a LUCKY FLIPPY McFLIPPERSON!
Prizes were $5 and a pack of my choice. Second got a pack. I
got Lost Mellenium. Got squat and gave it away.
This proves, again, that the Hamon deck does in fact work. I
hoped it would.
UNTIL NEXT WEEKEND! If you can't find Brookhaven on the map,
don't worry we're there, just head south and if you hit
Cuba, you've gone too far.
