Now, this tournament was from last year, and I
wasn’t going to, but I decided to write a tournament
report on what happened. The tournament started at
6:00pm, so I left my house at about 5:45pm to get
there on time.
When I arrived, I met my friends Kevin and Eddy and
registered. The entry fee was $6.00, and you get a
pack at the end no matter what. The prize for
winning is an extra pack at the end, and of course,
the honor of being the best that week.
If you manage to lose in the first round, then you
are placed in the preliminary tournament, and the
prize for winning is the same.
And so the tournament began:
Round One: Jordan VS. Brett
This guy was probably around 16-17 years old and had
a Zombie deck.
Duel One:
I went first and my hand was good, I started with
some face down cards and Zombyra the Dark.
He set a monster and some face down cards, I chained
Mystical Space Typhoon to his first set, it
was…Fissure?! He passed his turn to me. I drew and
summoned Berserk Gorilla. I used Zombyra to attack
his set monster, since Zombyra can’t attack directly
anyway. It was a Spirit Reaper. I ended. He used
Hammer Shot to destroy my Berserk Gorilla, then
tributed his Spirit Reaper for Vampire Lord. He
attacked my Zombyra, it was destroyed, and I went
down to 7900 LP. He called Trap, and I discarded my
Sakuretsu Armor. Now, here it looked like he had
the upper hand, but this is where it gets
interesting. I drew and used Soul Exchange on his
Vampire Lord. I summoned Airknight Parshath and
ended, since it couldn’t attack that turn because of
Soul Exchange. He drew, and his V-Lord was Special
Summoned, but I used Bottomless Trap Hole, the first
set card of the game to remove it from play. From
then on, he started setting bluffs and weak monsters
face down. I remember using Nobleman of Crossout on
one, then got out some more of my monsters, summoned
Jinzo, and I was in control the entire time. I
eventually used Jinzo and Airknight to attack for
the win.
Duel Two:
It went pretty similar to the last one, I summoned
Blade Knight in the beginning, and had control for a
while. I used Delinquent Duo early on when he had
two cards in hand, but I nabbed a Despair from the
Dark, and had to deal with that for a while. I
eventually used Scapegoat with Creature Swap and
beat him. It was pretty easy.
I went up to the Store Owner, Terry, and told him I
won. Eddy had lost his first Duel, and ironically
enough, was matched up against Brett in the
Preliminary Tournament. Kevin, however, had won his
first duel and was matched against some little kid.
Round Two: Jordan VS. Ben
This guy is awesome. He’s a great duelist with a
lot of originality. He was running what he called
an “Empty Jar” Deck. It used Morphing Jar #2 many
times to deck the opponent out.
Duel One:
He went first and played Rock Bombardment, I think
is the name, and he took Cyber Jar from his deck to
the grave to deal me 500 LP damage. He set a few
cards and a monster and passed to me. I drew Kycoo
the Ghost Destroyer and set a few before summoning
and attacking his set monster. It was Morphing Jar
#2, not surprisingly. I took my Kycoo and shuffled
it into my deck, I lost a few cards before I drew
Blade Knight, and was forced to set it. I ended and
he drew. He set another monster and played a Spell
that let him take a FLIP effect monster from his
grave to the top of his deck. He put the Morphing
Jar #2 on top and ended. I drew and Tributed the
Knight for Airknight Parshath, then used
Metamorphosis for Fiend Skull Dragon, which negates
FLIP effects. He saw that and forfeited.
Duel Two:
I side decked Luminous Soldier and others and we
began. He went first and set a monster. I
Nobleman’d it and he was extremely disappointed. It
was Morphing Jar #2. He discarded all three and I
summoned Berserk Gorilla and attacked directly.
This time, I had control for the whole time. I
eventually won and made it to the semi-finals.
I told Terry I won, and was matched up against
someone very cool. Eddy, unfortunately lost his
duel against Brett, and got his pack and watched the
rest of the time. Kevin, however was going very
strong. He won his last duel and was dueling at the
same time I was. Sadly, I don’t remember this kid’s
name, but he was excellent. He had a Horus Deck,
very rare at that tourney.
Semi Finals: Jordan VS. ???? (Horus Deck)
Duel One:
I don’t really remember a lot about the first duel,
more about the second. I remember winning, I
believe with Jinzo, but the second duel is more
exciting.
Duel Two:
The MOST fun duel I have ever had. I fought him
pretty hard, but he was good. The first part of the
duel lasted about twenty minutes, everyone else had
finished their duels and were circled around the
table, watching ours. I looked to my right and saw
Eddy, behind me was Kevin, to my left was the kid
Kevin beat first round and his brother. Ben and
Brett had left, and there were a few more people
watching on my opponent’s side. By this time, I was
down and losing badly. He thought it was won for
him, with the life point counts how they were. He
had 4100, I had 800. He had Horus LV8 and Jinzo on
his field. I couldn’t use any Spells or Traps. My
field had Dark Flare Knight that I has
Metamorphosized last turn and a face-down Call of
the Haunted. I had one card in my hand.
Tribe-Infecting Virus. I drew Premature Burial,
useless with my life points. I summoned
Tribe-Infecting Virus and discarded the Premature,
calling Machine. Both of his monsters were killed
and I used Call on Jinzo, then attacked with all
three for the win. Amazing. Everyone cheered, and
I laid back and let out a deep breath. I gladly
shook the man’s hand, and he smiled at me and said,
“good game.” Then I got up and went to the front of
the store.
I told Terry I won, and one other person had won his
last duel, and I had to face him. Kevin. I walked
back to the back of the store and sat down with
Kevin, my friend. We faced each other from across
the table. And we shuffled and cut each other’s
decks. We drew our first five cards and began the
duel.
Duel One:
I went first, and summoned Blade Knight. I set a
few face downs and ended. He drew, set FIVE cards
face down and set a monster. He has a burn deck, so
that was expected of him. Throughout the duel, he
had control. He used Nightmare Wheels frequently,
and got me down to the 2000’s of life points. He
used Raging Flame Sprite to attack me repeatedly,
and I was in bad shape. I eventually got out Jinzo
and won, since he just about used only traps.
Duel Two:
I lost this one, he used Raging Flame Sprite
Combined with Gravity Bind and it got up to about
4100 ATK points. I couldn’t stop it.
Duel Three:
This time I somehow managed to get around every
trick he used. The Solar Flare Dragon lock, the
Flame Sprite beatdown, and the Gravity
Bind/Nightmare Wheel lock. I won this duel, but not
easily.
I told Terry I had finally won, he told me I was the
winner for that night and I received my packs. It
was a good night, and we headed home afterwards.
I’ll always remember this tourney, as it was the
best one ever, and every time I go this summer, I’m
going to try and have just as much fun.
Props to
Everyone who came and had a good attitude,
Eddy and Kevin for being cool and being my friends,
Terry and Toy Chest for holding this great tourney,
The kid with the Horus Deck, sorry I don’t remember
your name!
Eddy uses Green Ultra Pro card sleeves and a
Metallic Gray deck box.
Kevin uses Metallic Red Ultra Pro card sleeves
encased in burgundy Ultra Pro sleeves, a Dark
Burgundy Deck Box and Ultra Pro binder card pages.
Jordan uses White Ultra Pro card sleeves, a Clear
