Suburbian_Monarchs_top_8!_Matt_Sparacino_Infinite_Quests_BlueBell_Pennsylvania
March 10 2007
I think there was 147, there were an odd number because
there was a by the first round Hey everybody, Matt
Sparama-cino from team Winscar reporting back from a typical
regional in Pennsylvania. There were actually a few Jump
finalists; Marc Glass, and I think there was someone else
named Brian who fared well in a Jump but I’m not sure.
Alright so it was overall a very competitive day with a lot
of unexpected things happening. So there were 8 rounds of
swiss, then of course the coveted top 8.
Heres a copy of my deck, “Suburbian Monarch”

Round 1 -Table 72 -Matt vs. Kevin(dim. Fissure/bazoo) Game 1
Kevin was a real good player, from team Carnidge I believe.
It was very hard to tell what he was running. He only got to
play one of his dim.
Fissures, and maybe one bazoo. I got a first turn confi
which hit a snatch steal. It all went down hill from there
for him; my spy’s abused him as did thestalos. He did pull
off a morphing jar but it ended up helping me out more then
him and he couldn’t recover.
Me 8000-7000
Kevin 8000-7700-3800-0000
Game 2 I saw the dim fissure so I sided in spies but they
weren’t enough and a timely NoC hit my spy and bazoo just
trampled all over me. I got owned.
Me 8000-5900-2700-3200-1600-0000
Kevin 8000-7000-4900
Game 3 I don’t even remember what happened it was real close
and then his hand just disappeared. I used a confi and
thestaols to take all his monsters and leave his creature
swap useless, which left him pretty locked down. He pulled
out morphing jar but I was too ahead at that point.
Me 8000-7000-6200
Kevin 8000-7700-6200-4700-2000-0000 1-0! Woohoo!
Round 2 Table 24 Matt vs. Daryl (crazy stall burn) Game 1
Well I hadn’t seen a burn in a while, so this was fun. It
was pretty close and I used up my mobius’ to take out most
of his life points, and he was short 400 life points in
burn. Later he told me that if he waited 1 more turn I would
have had one more card In hand and with two barrels that
would have been the 400 that won it.
Me 8000-7000-4800-2800-300
Daryl 8000-5600-800-0000
Game 2 I had never been so happy to side deck in my Des
Wombats. I never drew a Mobius and he had wave motion cannon
that was on 5 when I summoned Wombat. He couldn’t kill it,
and his wave motion cannon was on turn 11 when I rushed for
game.
Me 8000-5600
Daryl
8000-11400(hummingbird!?)-9000-8700-5700-6100-4500-2000-0000
2-0!!!
Round 3 Table 15 Matt vs. Brandon(6th samurai) Game 1 it was
an interesting take on 6th S. it didn’t have Shien’s, but it
abused command knights. Over all monarchs just countered. He
set a monster I summon zaborg, etc.
Me 8000-7300-6600-6500-5700
Brandon 8000-6400-5800-3400-1300-800-500-0000
Game 2 I felt bad, this deck had potential(apparently it did
because it managed a huge fluke in beating Marc Glass in the
7th round) but this round he didn’t get a thing. He never
got two at the same time, which is a problem. Luck just
wasn’t with him.
Me 8000-7800-7000-6700
Brandon 8000-6500-6200-3400-2800-1700-1100-0000 3-0!!!!!!!!!
Round 4 Table 3 Matt vs. Jeff (tier 1 Bazoo return) Game 1,
I saw my first card trooper of the day, but I wouldn’t be my
last.
He played an early return which did some massive early
damage. I did a little damage and finally attacked with
sangan which put him at 1900 and he couldn’t pull off a game
winning dimension fusion. Pretty close duel I come out on
top.
Me 8000-3500-2700-1900
Jeff 8000-7400-3700-2900-1900-0000
Game 2 we play card for card until I stopped drawing my
monarchs. I had a hydro in his way that he needed to get rid
of, and it took him three rolls with snipe hunter to kill
it, which blew his hand right there. Frog helps out the
monarchs over the next few turns and I pull it out. Snipe
hunter….what happened?!?
Me 8000-7000-5800
Jeff 8000-7500-6600-5400-600-0000 4-0!!!!! (Jeff was a great
guy and will
go on to win the next 4 and clinch the over all 4th spot
with a 7-1 record)
Round 5 Table 3 (again) Matt vs. Paul (strike ninja
chimeratech) Game 1 I could tell this deck was amazing. He
future fusions to get a whole bunch of darks, but never
plays overload. Instead strike ninja comes out and really
messes me up. Couldn’t recover.
Me 8000-7200-6200-2100-1300-0000
Paul 8000-5600-4200
Game 2 I don’t even want to talk about it. Really close, I
just spent all my cards killing his hand and his chimeratech
plot, but then he’s just like, “snatch steal for game?” so
yeah, no comment
Me
8000-7600-6800-6000-5000-4600-3700-snatchstealforgamegah!!!!!-0000
Paul 8000-5600-3900-3100-4100 4-1
Round 6 Table 7 Matt vs. Steve(Chimeratech)
Game1 well, the judge calls the beginning of round, a turn
in “wait! Table 7 deck checks!” my opponent was up so he
wasn’t too happy. So anyway I guess when they deck check
they put then in order, because I drew 5 traps. Snipe hunter
ran all over me, I did a lot of damage but overload came out
and it was over.
Me 8000-6000-0000
Steve 8000-6100-5300-3800
Game 2 I was sooo up it bugs me. My hydros were tearing up
and my monarchs were working. I guess they all worked a
little too well, snipe hunter took out my traps then
future-overload killed the hydros for game. Again.
Me 8000-7600-0000
Steve 8000-4000 4-2
Round 7 Table 28 Matt vs. John (lets just say he didn’t even
know what he was running) Game 1 hmm, he used a cyber
dragon, asura priest, and a sangan. I couldn’t tell what he
was running and later he told me he didn’t know himself.
Me 8000
John 8000-4300-0000
Game 2 same thing, I got to see his deck, stratos,
wildhearts, kinda of an agro deck that never attacked, im
not sure. Same as game 1 really
Me 8000-7500
John 8000-6300-5700-5400-4800-0000 5-2! Right about now I
need a win
badly
Round 8 (final round) Table 17 Matt vs. Carolyn(monarch)
Game 1 right now, I am ranked 11th with a 5-2 record, I
figure if I win I might bump up to 10 or 9. She was ranked
29. Anyway, I admired her monarch deck, she ran granmargs
and no thestalos, and they worked for her. All she played
were monarchs, no spies or hydros, and she eventually ran
out.
Me 8000-6600-3200
Carolyn 8000-7000-4600-4300-2700-1100-0000
Game 2 she took control of this game quick but made one
mistake. I search out spy with sangan, with a spy in my
grave. I set the spy, and she has cyber and tomato. Cyber
attacks, and shes like, 1400damage? And I threw out my third
spy and she tought I was kidding. I guess shed never seen 3
spies before. I won two turns later with a a lucky combo of
hydros and e.con. she was a great duelist and I hope she
sticks to monarchs.
Me 8000-7200-4800-4000-2900
Carolyn 8000-7000-6000-5000-4800-4400-0000 6-2!!!
Top 8
I, nor anyone on my team had ever top 8’ed before, and I
didn’t believe it when I got 6th with a 6-2 record. About
two minutes later the judge says there have to be
corrections to the rankings and I almost fainted.
Fortunately it didn’t affect my 6th seat.
So I played someone who said his name was bob, but I found
out later it was brian, long?lang? I don’t remember. My
friend was under the impression he was a Jump finalist, but
I never found out. He was running a tough bazoo return with
troopers, snipe hunters you get the idea. I was just glad to
make top 8 and I didn’t go any further than that. I got my
duel mat and packs and my team and I went to burger king
where ironically enough everyone from the regional was
there.
Id do props and slops, but everything was so great. I got an
invite to the nationals through some crazy chain of events
that I didn’t understand. The only slops were that my
teammates didn’t make it with me. A bunch of our decks were
dysfunctional, but they’ll be a lot better for the
Philadelphia Jump. Thanks for reading and hope to see
everybody at the Shonen Jump!
God bless, Matt Sparacino of team Winscar If you guys have
any thoughts, feel free……knexboy4444@hotmail.com
