Standard_Monarch_Build_Matt_Sparacino_Team_Winscar_Philly_Jump_2007
May 2007

The festivities started Friday night when team Winscar put all the finishing touches on our decks and side boards. Catching about 4 hours of sleep on the floor didn’t inspire confidence, but it was necessary to get up real early. We got up around 6, and then we were off to Philly. We stopped to drop off a teammate who got sick the night before and couldn’t make the trip, unfortunately. A quick stop at wa-wa to grab a cappuccino and apple fritter (the best pastry a 1.39 can buy) was the last stop before we got to the convention center. I believe we got in around 8ish and basically walked right in, no line to speak of. Our team ninja (the Winscar ninja, you may have seen him he was the only ninja there…) picked up a registration form and was allowed to enter the tournament under the one requirement that he lower his mask a little (which made him look surprisingly like Kakashi, and was often mistaken for him) so they could see his ears. *Our ninjas tourney report will be included at the bottom of this one*.I guess they thought he could be wearing a headset, which still doesn’t make any sense anyway. That was about all the activity before round one, but first ill show you guys a copy of my deck list

Round 1-table 200-Rob-warrior toolbox
Rob was running a pretty standard warrior toolbox, with little defenses.
First duel my monarchs take advantage quickly. I remember him having to set his don zaloog which helped me gain advantage; I don’t think he was drawing his traps.

Me 8000-7100
Rob 8000-7400-7100-6100-3900-1800-brain control ftw

Duel 2 I sided in my kinetic soldiers and drew both. He got off his dons effect but it frog, and then next turn I summoned cyber, kinetic, and premature on a monarch for over 6300 damage

Me 8000-7900-7350
Rob 8000-7800-7200-6900-6300-rush for game I take round one, 1-0

Hey look, metagame got a picture of me; or the guys next to me rather….

I’m the one with the headband shuffling.

Round 2-table 86-Errin-aggro monarch
**Sorry if I misspelled your name Errin. **

Duel 1 was very close; he was running a monarch deck with goblin elites and mirage dragon. It was pretty good and he got me really low on LP. At one point I MST his f/d ring and he chained it to kill his own monster, I guess so I couldn’t use brain control, but I had a reaper that took advantage of the open field next turn. It was close but I pulled it out

Me 8000-6400-4800-2600-1600-800
Errin 8000-6400-6100-5300-4800-1900-500-0000

Duel 2 he gets a first turn confi, but I get back advantage when I torrential the flip of my spy. The momentum shifts in my favor, and he doesn’t make any comeback

Me 8000-7700-6400-5300-4300
Errin 8000-7000-5600-2200-1300-0000 win round 2, 2-0 Round 3-table 3-Jason-Demise

Duel 1 I know Jason from my local, so when he sat down across from me I was like oh you gotta be kidding He was running demise, but there was a shinato in there somewhere. First duel I won simple because he never got advanced ritual art, or sonic bird.
When it was over he showed me his hand which consisted of 3 demise and a shinato

Me 8000-7200-6800
Jason 8000-5600-4800-3800-0000

Duel 2 I side deck all that good demise killing stuff, but he gets some damage with insect knights, then demises, morphs into cyber twin for game, I didn’t get my cursed seal quick enough

Me 8000-6100-4200-0000
Jason 8000-7500-8500-6600-7600-5600

Duel 3 finally I get all the stuff I side decked. I cursed seal his ARA, and he actually almost beat me with the insect knights, but I top deck a spy and he can’t get passed it. My monarchs come next and his rituals were useless

Me 8000-4700-4300
Jason 8000-7600-7000-6600-5600-3200-0000 I take round 3, 3-0

Round 4 table 25-Jamal-monarch

Duel 1 he had a pretty common monarch deck but it had a stealth bird engine that was out of place. I get pretty lucky, my Thestalos hits a snatch steal, his hits my frog, that kind of lucky. Don’t remember what happened, but whatever he did I had something ready for it

Me 8000-7200-4400
Jamal 8000-5600-5000-3600-4600-2200-1400-100-ring ftw

Duel 2 wasn’t any different. My Dekoichi’s abuse him and get huge advantage; his set monsters always got destroyed and gave him a -1, so basically I just kept getting advantage. It got really close in LP, but the advantage I had tips it in my favor

Me 8000-5900-44900-4300-1900-1100
Jamal 8000-7700-6900-4800-2400-3400-2600-200-0000 my streak continues at 4-0

Round 5 table 5-john (he goes on to top 16)-chain burn

Duel 1 John was a pretty cool guy, but man do I hate burn, without siding it’s not even worth it

Me 8000-5600-3600-1100-200-0000
John 8000-7700-5300

Duel 2, ok, I side deck and I do get a first turn des wombat and twister, but I really needed decree. He lava golems the wombat, and yeah that’s it for me

Me 8000-7500-6500-4400-2300-1300-0000
John 8000-5000 first loss, 4-1

Round 6 table 42-Evan- monarch

Duel 1he starts off with a Sangan and a f/d. I brain, and sac it for Mobius, it was a rug. I lose right there, basically

Me 8000-7000-6200-5900-3500
Evan 8000-yeah, didn’t even touch him

Duel 2 I really like what he did next, he sided out his monarch stuff, and sided in 3 messenger of peace, 3 solemns, and 3 wave motion cannons. With the 2 rugs already in there, he just puts a wave motion down and it sits there for 6 turns. He snatches my Thestalos and I let him keep it for a while, that’s hwy I gain so much, but it didn’t matter

Me 8000-5600-3200-4200-5200-6200-5400-4400-0000
Evan 8000-7800-7700 I lose again, 4-2

Round 7-table 88-sean-Monarch

Duel1 ok, now this guy was a piece of work. I respect him as an expert at the game; he seemed to always know what I was going to do, every card I set, and had a lot of fun messing with my head. He was a pretty weird guy, but if anyone ever beat me mentally, it was him. Exiled force in multiples destroys me and right at the end I played brain and he chains ring on his cyber for game, again it was as if he knew I was going to play brain

Me 8000-6400-2600-0000
Sean 8000-6700-5100-4300

Duel 2 I side in rugs, but it’s a good thing I didn’t draw them because he only had 2 monarchs anyway! I come out on top, I think because his hydros weren’t much help to him, and I got the momentum and went with it.

Me 8000-7200-5500
Sean 8000-7600-4800-3100-0000

Duel 3 similar to the first duel, exiled force; man did it work for him well. When I have 2000 LP left he has 2 f/d s/t and no mons. I have a monarch, and he says, “ok, my 2 face downs are torrential and snatch steal, go ahead, attack” so after about 2 minutes of him confusing me outright, I decide to attack anyway. He says ok ill take it and I end. He laughs and flips up his snatch steal for game. I can’t wait for the nationals, I only hope I’ll be worthy of this guy next time…

Me 8000-7600-2800-2000-0000
Sean 8000-6800-6400-4000 3 game losing streak, ouch, puts me at 4-3

Round 8-table 113-steve-Warrior Monarch

Ok so there must have been a rumor going around that 7-3 wouldn’t get you into top 16, because after the 6th round the number of people dropped form
674 to under 300. Yeah, so the guys around, the ones who were going to stay till the end, made a very good point: I paid $20, I’m playing my 10 rounds!
I liked their attitude, even though we were all dead tired.

Duel 1 so anyway, my opponent was a pretty nice guy, and he had monarch with decree, jinzo, and the stratos-wild engine. The first game was pretty close, but in the end the standard line up of monarch support takes out the warrior engine

Me 8000-6500-5700-3300-2500-3500-2700
Steve 8000-7200-2700-2200-1300-1000-400-0000

Duel 2 ok this one was pretty simple. I get a bad hand, mostly traps. He summons jinzo, yeah, that’s about all that happened

Me 8000-5600-0000
Steve 8000

Duel 3 This duel was deeply in my favor. I get monster advantage with monsters, and he had two face down royal decrees he couldn’t use, so my monarchs trample him down. It was a fun match, and he was a cool guy.

Me 8000-6800-6650-5650
Steve 8000-5600-1100-2100-0000 ok, back on it at 5-3

Round 9-table 83-Robert-Demise

Duel 1 this was one of the demise decks that didn’t make the cut. He didn’t get demise on the first or second turn, and I came up with a great idea, if he’s under 2000, then he cant blow up the field. I know its simple, but I double brain and swarm him, he cant use demise effect and I win.

Me 8000-7200-6400
Robert 8000-7400-1500-300-0000

Duel 2 I thought it was a good idea, so I try the same thing again. Only this time I make a slight miscalculation and leave him at 2200. he gets out demise and i'm screwed.

Me 8000-6600-6400-5600-0000
Robert 8000-6600-6400-6100-2200-200

Duel 3 my sides come in handy, mind crushing his manju and rug-ing his sonic bird. I get him down to 1800 and one card in hand, I knew it was demise.
All I had was 600 though, and a book and 2 useless brains were my sets. He top decks ara, with only 2 insects left in his deck, i’m forced to book it, then next turn I draw a twister and scoop. Talk about a luck-sac or whatever

Me 8000-5600-5200-3300-1400-600-0000
Robert 8000-5600-4200-1800 argh, back to losing, 5-4…

Round 10-table 103-kenneth-monarchish deck

Ok, its the last round, there’s only 220 people left, I’m really tired. We all were, its like 9:30, rolling into our 13th hour of children’s card games. It was really a blur, he had a monarch deck, I think.

Me 8000-7000-5700-4500-3700-1300-0000
Kenneth 8000-6700-6400-5400-4400-2000

Pretty once sided this time, again don’t remember much…

Me 8000-7200-6400-5200-4400
Kenneth 8000-5200-2800-0000

Ok, now this one I remember how it ends
He has one scapegoat left, and four cards in hand. I have a Dekoichi, and 2 cybers, reaper in hand. He brains my train, sacs it for his cyber, rams them, then plays smash to take out the other, leaving him with one goat, and we both have a spirit reaper in hand. I topdeck a cyber and he only has 900 so I win, I was kinda mad because he had the better deck and he out played me but I got lucky. Oh well, I win with a 6-4 record and place 109 out of
674

Me 8000-5600-4800-3700-2300-900-100
Kenneth 8000-5600-1900-900-0000

Conclusion- wow, what a day. It was a ton of fun, and we definitely made ourselves known. We got a brand new member, bought plenty of cards to keep our decks current, and our ninja made his first appearance in public. I got three packs for making top 128, as did two other teammates. I pull a norleas, my friend pulls invicil, and my other friend pulls invicil and enrise. Well it looks like we can start testing out chaos I guess. Its almost time for the nationals, and I need to get my deck ready. Raiza’s will be legal soon, and my deck needs work. I hope to see everybody there, I cant wait and I hope I fair better there then I did here.

Thanks for everybody who bothered to get all the way to the bottom of this, and as always God bless from everybody at team Winscar. Weasel---out.

And now, we see the tournament from a ninjas eyes….

Ninjas at SJ Philadelphia
By: the Win Scar ninja
This is a compete and full report of my experience at this years shonen jump, were I showed up and entered as a ninja using a ninja deck. When most people think of ninja they think strike ninja. But the deck consisted of every ninja you could think of ….with the exception of Goe goe (curse you force of breaker) Anyway in this report you’ll find out how my matches went and furthermore how my day was in general WE ARRIVE:
We get there as early as we can about seven thirtyish eight o clock. I find that people in Philly aren’t too surprised by ninjas walking around, which leads me to believe that either they get many cosplayers due to the convention building or ninjas are as common as the pigeons. Once we arrived not many people seemed to notice or make a huge deal about it. Until one judge approached me with a cocky attitude saying “you can’t be wearing that while your playing because your going to pull an espa roba, why because I said so” So I countered with wing attack and he fled but not with out making me remove the top of my ninja hood, which regrettably made my look like kakashi from naruto. Suddenly I was kakashi to everyone. That’s when people asked for pictures and advice on how to raise children. During this time I was given the chance to put in some practice duels with my teammates which for the most part went pretty well

MATCH 1: Alex
My first match was difficult to get comfy with namely because my goatee now was awarding me an uncomforting feeling on my face and I had to adjust my mask which kept falling because the top wasn’t on.
One more thing, the man sitting next to me wasn’t heavy set but his arms took up half my room and he obviously did not believe in showers.
HIS REACTION :
Smiled shook his head and look and the man next to me in search of friendship.
THE DEUL:
From this point on when I explain the duels I’ll be summing them up for times sake.
Alex ran a… you guessed it demise OTK here is how the match went. I won ,he won. And at the end well…..I fell victim to a cookie cutter.
MATCH 2: can’t remember I’ll call him Craig This match actually went fine and I lost on a small misplay and failed to have dimensional fissure in my side deck but oh well HIS REACTION:
Smiled shook his head and looked around for someone to share his laugh with finding no one.
THE DUEL:
This was actually the only deck I dueled , excluding my friends , that didn’t run demise he ran dark worlds and I was happy about that. The first duel I beat him relentlessly the second duel I failed and the third was pretty close and he snatch stole my cyber dragon and had full field so I lost.
MATCH 3: during the break a young judge with a slight lisp approached me exclaiming that I had forgotten to write my name on the small sheet of paper and to not forget in the future then he ran off. Supposedly my friend with the dark world deck dropped me out so I got a chance to stand there and do nothing for forty flipping minuets the head judge worked with my and got me a by for that round, it was ridiculous because I had to tell them to look up Winscar as a last name like 5 times.

MATCH 4: lets face it why would I try to remember the name …..lets go with Matsuda Yet another demise OTK and this one was the exact same. The exact same, same combos and everything HIS REACTION: didn’t seem to notice until I flipped white ninja, the made a huge late deal about it like mid match.
THE DUEL:I beat him once with blast with chain handy . I sided the second blast with chain and drew it after demise was out wreaking havoc. And basically lost the will to continue so I resigned from the tournament .
Which I can honestly say I regret now ,but when it comes to yugioh there are two things I hate…uncomfortable goatees and deck clones and dropping out was the best way to relive myself of both. That being said I still regretted my actions deeply after the next two rounds and even more when everyone but me got packs.

OTHER DUELS:
Apart from my matches I got a chance to duel some friends and I thought I would share them.
JEFF: Jeff I dueled a lot in the two days we hung out and won each time. He runs a chimeritech over dragon OTK. The ninja deck was pretty prepared for it.
VINCE: Ninja vs. Samurai amusing beginning we both played an excellent game which turned out a standstill due to a match starting and 4 matches later on our break we continued and he won.
???: I unfortunately forgot this good mans name but he is by far my favorite duelist to watch and to play. He ran demise but with the mighty Blue Eyes White Dragon, and since I saw more dragon than demise ,I let the demise thing slide. He beat me pretty quickly and as a prize he demanded my true name and I gladly gave it to him.
CIRO: our old friend Ciro unfortunately ran a demise OTK but he used its effect solely to clean the field them morphed it into a cyber twin dragon which allowed him to sustain his self-respect and gave the end of the last two game some class. I won the first game before he got anything out .
MATT: the last big duel for the ninja deck which considering who was playing with it did fairly good. The duel was buy far one of the best I’ve had with Matt. I wouldn’t be able to give you real details due to it being fast paced but I did win and that was one of the reasons Matt felt unsure of his deck for the nationals (you’ll be fine. Good luck and Gods speed Matt) and after the duel Dan and Matt performed a small funeral ritual for the ninja deck and bid it fair well.
And that was my report straight from the ninja himself. Nothing much happened after that. Oh wait I went to McDonalds and ordered a cheese burger and got a bun with cheese…that’s it no patty….fail. I also was able to get everything I needed for my new deck all for pretty cheap and fair prices.
And another thing we on hat day got a new team member …a dragon duelist WELCOME TO WINSCAR FRIEND.. ( side note: thank you Brian for alerting me of the mirror force the vendor had for 20.00 that’s an awesome bargain and I wouldn’t have ever got it with out you telling me so thanks) with that I’ll bid you all fair well, go team!
THE END…………
