 Yugioh Tournament Reports

Tournament Name: EU-IE YGO - 10 June 2007 - Dublin 1, Ireland
Premiere Level: Non-Premiere
Game and Format: Yu-Gi-Oh! Constructed Deck All Players
Challenge Value: 10
Date Held: 10/6/2007
Organizer Name: James Brophy
Location: Wynn's Hotel
Abby Street
Dublin 1,
Ireland

Yesterday I got ready by getting my card folders and decks together and packed into my bag. I also packed my wallet and a fruit juice. I then showered and went to bed. This morning, I got up, dressed, grabbed my bag, and left to catch the bus to Dublin.

When I got to Wynns Hotel (where the tournament was being held), I stopped at a shop just outside and bought a chicken and sage stuffing sandwich, so hunger later on wouldn't distract me from my games. So I go into the hotel, up the stairs and enter the tournament room. First things first, I register (10e), and spend some time looking at the card shop's card folders, eventually buying a Horus LV8, Noreleras and Newdoria. I also bought some Champion pack 2, getting Morphing Jar x2, Kuriboh x2, Ring of Destruction x2. I traded for an Infernal Dragon.

Eventually, Round 1 was posted up (Today we were going to have 5 swiss rounds.) I'm also not going to put the names of my opponents down.

Round 1

Me vs Crystal Dragon Dude (Crystal Beasts, with Magna-Slash Dragon)

I didn't think to keep track of his (or any of my opponents) lifepoints so I'll be listing only mine.

8000-7900-7400
8000-7000-6500

In the first game I beat him around with Wildhearts, and stuff because he didn't have much space to put down defensive spell/trap cards.

In the second game, I had sidedecked, and added 1 Spell Purification and 1 Cyber Prima, but didn't see either of them. I still won with Wildhearts, because, when he did get to set stuff, it was a trap, that got to kill my EBO, or Gigantes, but not Wildheart. He did play Smashing Ground on one Wildheart, and used the effect on Anchient Ruin to lower the damage from two Wildhearts, but that didn't stop me from winning. Now, usually, this guy beats me, so he justs need to work on the deck a bit more. I also remember using Confiscation during at least one of the games to get rid of his Pegasus.

Round 2

Me vs Gadget Guy

8000-6100-5100-1900-1100-0
8000-6600-6100
8000-7000-6350-7350

This opponent was running Gadgets, which turn out to be tough for my deck to handle, as you can see by my lifepoint count. I lost the first duel, won the second and third duel. For some reason, I didn't keep any good notes for this duel (which I generally write after duels.)

Round 3

I also didn't think to write the name of this opponent down. He was running Monarchs...and gave me my first in today's tournament. The only note I wrote down about this down was...Lost. Here are my life point totals.

8000-6300-3900-3200-1800-1400-1100-0
8000 (I failed to write down the rest of my lifepoints but I did lose.)

Round 4

Me vs Gadtes Kid

He was running Gadgets and Gigantes. I didn't write notes, but I remember him being tough. Not as tough as Gadget Guy, but it showed me I should have sidedecked more against Gadgets. And that Gadgets really are popular with us Irish players.

8000-6300-5500-4000
8000-7200-4700-800-0
8000 (untouched lifepoints)

Round 5

Me vs Demise Deck Man

Demise player. If he didn't get me in the first two turns of each duel, he got me soon after. My swapped-in sidedeck cards were useless.

8000-0
8000-0

So, after the 5 rounds were up, I stick around to see who got top 8. Brian Dunne, who won Irish Nationals, won this tournament, from what I could hear of the announcement. I thought I heard my name in the top 8 too, but I believed me to be mistaked. So, I go off to the toilets to wash my hands, which were sweaty (it was warm today), and as I head back to the tournament, one of the guys who helps with the tournament, says I got into the top 8 (woohoo, first top 8!), so I go to play my first top 8 match...and it's Demise Deck Man.

Top 8 Match

I lost just as fast as before. Oh well. At least I got top 8, and without a good sideck too.

The Mysterious Guards were used because I didn't have a 3rd Exiled, 3rd Berserk and 2nd DDA, but they worked quite well, except for one duel where Nobleman of Crossout was used on one and removed them all from play. :/
