An Example of a Counterfeit
Yu-Gi-Oh card
01.13.05 "Hi,
Recently silver holograms are appearing on first edition
cards. A lot of people are suggesting that these are
fake. I have since emailed the Fraud Investigation Team
at The Upper Deck Company and they said to me that the
first edition cards with the silver holograms are not
fake, nor misprints.
I would like to know if the staff at Pojo have heard or
have any information about these silver hologram first
edition cards?
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Mark Hodgson"

Pojo Note: I sent this on to cool ol'
Kevin at Upper Deck. His Initial Response:
"What cards? Where did he
get them? When? In what form of packaging?
We need details to answer the question."
----
"Here is a scan of a first
edition silver baby dragon which came from a Joey
Starter Deck.
I have also seen first
edition
silver holos in all the starter decks including the
evolution decks. I have seem them in the Metal Raiders
booster packs and I believe them to be other booster
packs as well.
I live in South Africa and I have noticed these cards
started showing up around September/October 2004. That’s
the time I started buying Yu-Gi-Oh cards. If you would
like a scan of the packaging, please let me know. The
packaging is of high quality and not the usual poor
quality of fake packaging that I have seen at flea
markets, etc.
Also let me know if you would like me to forward you a
copy of the emails I have received from the Fraud
Investigation Team.
Thank you
Mark H"

UDE's Kevin's Response:
"This is a counterfeit card.
1st edition Joey Decks have gold holofoils. Also the
cutting on the card is severely off, notice how the
black border is lopsided & crooked around the card."
