Mayor, Fans and Comic-Con Attendees Welcome World’s Top Duelists to San Diego

at Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG “World’s Fair” Kick-Off Event on Thursday, July 26

 

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Players of the world’s number one trading card game (TCG), Yu-Gi-Oh!, Dueled their way to San Diego to compete in the largest tournament of its kind -- the 2007 Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament.  To kick off the championship event and welcome the 22 competitors from around the globe, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (KDE) and Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE) will host the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World’s Fair in San Diego on Thursday, July 26.

 

Top Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Duelists from around the world have been awarded a seat to represent their country at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament and duke it out for the highly sought-after title of “Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Champion.” The weekend kicks off with the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World’s Fair, a day-long public event and the ultimate Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG experience, featuring international champions and local Yu-Gi-Oh! fans joining in on the excitement.

 

World’s Fair attendees will get a chance to meet and trade tips with the world’s best Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG players, take part in fun activities and trivia contests, and mingle with fellow Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG fans in the Open Play area.  As a part of the festivities, KDE and UDE will award a variety of giveaways throughout the day, including a limited number of event gift bags to those who participate in the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World’s Fair Passport Program.

 

The Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG World’s Fair will be held on the first day of Comic-Con International on Thursday, July 26 at the Martin Luther King Promenade Park, located in front of the San Diego Convention Center on Harbor Drive.  San Diego City Mayor Jerry Sanders will kick off the event at 10:30 a.m. with a welcome address to competitors from around the world.

 

The Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament will be held separately as part of Comic-Con on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29 in the Convention Center.  The World Championship Tournament will also feature the world’s top Yu-Gi-Oh! video game players as they battle for the coveted title of “The Yu-Gi-Oh! Video Game World Champion.”

 

The Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG is a game of strategy, where players create individual decks of cards collected from Structure Decks and Booster Packs.  Two players engage in a duel while using cards that represent powerful Monsters, magical Spells and surprising Traps.
