TRAVIIS MASSENGALE BESTS FIELD OF NEARLY 900 TO WIN
ORLANDO’S Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
EL SEGUNDO, CA (May 25, 2011) –
Weeks of preparation, a fine-tuned Deck and a sound strategy
proved to be the perfect combination for Traviis Massengale
as he emerged victorious at this past
weekend’s
Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series (YCS) held at the Gaylord
Palms Resort & Convention Center. More than 850
Duelists traveled from all over the country to participate
in Konami Digital Entertainment’s (Konami) premier-level Yu-Gi-Oh!
TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) event.
As the crowds converged Saturday morning for Round One,
22-year-old Traviis Massengale from Topeka, KS was
double-checking his Zombie Deck and preparing for an intense
two days of head-to-head competition. And so was his
22-year-old Final Round opponent, Juan Morales of Orlando,
FL, who was also prepared to go the distance, spent the
final minutes before Round One honing his Tengu Synchro
Deck.
With Saturday’s Preliminary Rounds behind them, both
Massengale and Morales were geared up for Sunday’s Duels and
their strategies paid off big as they both found themselves
on center stage, facing each other in the Final Match.
After many handshakes, fist bumps and laughs they focused
for the Match at hand. At the climax of the Match,
Massengale Summoned Scrap Dragon to try to finish
Morales off. When Morales responded with
Bottomless Trap Hole to try and
remove Scrap Dragon, Massengale had Solemn
Judgment to negate it. With Scrap Dragon on
the field, Morales soon lost his defenses, his Life Points,
and the Match!
Traviis Massengale’s win earned him a fantastic prize
package that included a set of Ultra Rare YCS Prize Cards,
an exclusive YCS Game Mat, a netbook computer, a paid trip
to his 2011 World Championship Qualifier, and more! Flores, now a two-time YCS Champion, earned a notable prize package that included a set of Ultra Rare YCS Prize Cards, an exclusive YCS Game Mat, a netbook computer, a paid trip to his 2011 World Championship Qualifier, and more!
