Episode Summary
223: The Final Duel, Part 3
by: klaas mallie
The duel between Atem and
Yugi continues. Yugi has 2400 Lifepoints, while
Atem stands at an untouched 4000. Atem's Mirror Force has
just destroyed
Yugi's Silent Swordsman and Valkyrion the Magna Warrior, but
Yugi says
that he will defeat the Egyptian God Cards. Everyone is
amazed by the vow
of Yugi, because the Egyptian God Cards may be weakend
during the duel,
but they are still too strong and Yugi has only one card in
his hand.
Obelisk the Tormentor has 500 ATK, Slifer the Sky Dragon
2000, and Ra 3000.
Yugi plays Magnet Reverse and use it to revive either a
Rock- or
Machine-type monster from his Graveyard in defense mode. He
chooses
Valkyrion the Magna Warrior (8/3500/3850), but by summoning
a monster,
Slifer's effect is activated again, and it blasts his
Thunder Force
towards Valkyrion.
But Yugi's Magnet Force* is still active, and the blast
redirect towards
Obelisk the Tormentor. With only 500 ATK, Obelisk is
destroyed
(500 - 2000 = 0). Then, Yugi activates Valkyrion's effect
and tributes
it to summon his three Magnet Warriors towards the field,
Alpha
(4/1400/1700), Beta (4/1700/1600) and Gamma (4/1500/1800)
the Magnet
Warriors, all in defense mode. Slifer's effect activates
again and blast
three Thunder Forces. Magnet Force redirects the attacks
towards Slifer,
which is destroyed (2000 - 2000 = 0), and Ra, which recieves
the other
two reducing blasts (3000 - 2*2000 = 0), and it's destroyed
also.
* = Magnet Force protects all Rock- or Machine-type monsters
for each
attack during 1 turn and makes the owner choose antoher
target for the
attack.
Everyone - including Atem - is very impressed by Yugi's
strong play.
Not only has Yugi destroyed all Egyptian God Cards, he has
three monsters
left on his field also. Yugi's turn ends, and Magnet Force
disappears.
Atem congratulates Yugi by his successfull turn, but warns
him that
duel is far from over. He activates Polymerization, and
fuses Gazelle
the King of Mythical Beasts (4/1500/1200) with Berformet
(5/1400/1800)
and summons Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast (6/2100/1800).
Then he
lets it attack Alpha the Magnet Warrior and it's destroyed.
Everyone
is suprised that Atem, although he has lost his God Card,
still can
summon such a powerfull monster.
Yugi draws, and tributes his remaining Magnet Warriors for
Buster Blader
(7/2600/2300), making it destroy Chimera, and Atem recives
for the
first time in this duel damage, and his Lifepoints are down
to 3500.
But Chimera's effect allows him to summon Berformet back to
field in
defense, and in his next turn, Atem tributes it to summon
Beast of
Gilfer (6/2200/2500) in defense mode. Yugi makes Buster
Blader destroy
Gilfer, but its effect makes the Blader lose 500 ATK-points,
and it's
down to 2100. Then Yugi sets a card and ends his turn. Atem
then
activates his Spell Card Wakening from the Floor of Death,
which allows
him to take 1 Monster Card back from his Graveyard, while
Yugi is allowed
to draw 2 cards. Yugi wonders which card it is that Atem
brought back.
The Egyptian God Cards require three tributes, and the
strongest card
after them Atem used was the Tricky (5/2000/1200). Buster
Blader may
be weakened, but it's still strong enough then.
Atem says that this is the card he discarded at the
beginning of the
duel to summmon the Tricky. He sets two cards facedown and
the summons
Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight (7/2300/2100), which can be
summoned without
tribute when it's the only card at hand. Swift Gaia destroys
Buster
Blader, and Yugi loses 200 Lifepoints, but then activates
his Trap Soul
Rope, which costs him 1000 Lifepoints, but makes him summon
Witch of the
Black Forest (4/1100/1200) in defense Mode. Yugi's
Lifepoints are halved
now, at 1200. Everyone assumes that Yugi is up to something,
because he
paid a high price to summon a monster. And indeed, Yugi
tributes the Witch
for Summoned Skull (6/2500/1200). The effect of the Witch
brings
Marshmeleon (2/300/500) to Yugi's hand from his Deck. Swift
Gaia is
destroyed, and Atem's Lifepoints go down to 3300.
Then Atem calls 'Big Shield Gardner' before he draws his
card. Ishizu
says that the Pharaoh's heart of the cards now makes him
predict the
card he draws before he actually draws it. Big Shield
Gardner (4/100/2600)
appears as a shield before Atem. Yugi plays Pot of Greed,
and one of the
two cards is Watapon (1/200/300), so it appears on his side
of the field.
The he tributes Watapon for Curse of Dragon (5/2000/1500).
Yugi,
understanding the weakness of Big Shield very well, let
Summoned Skull
attack the Gardner, losing 100 Lifepoints from the attack,
but Big
Shield switches to attack mode, due to its effect. Then
Curse of Dragon
destroys the Gardner, and Atem loses 1900 Lifepoints,
reducing him to
1400, almost equal to Yugi at 1100.
Atem is impressed, but feels that his last servant Mahad, is
waiting.
He calls 'Dark Magic Curtain' and activates it. By paying
half of his
Lifepoints (700), he can summon the Dark Magician
(7/2500/2100). Then
he activates one of his facedown cards, Book of Secret Arts,
to make
the Magician stronger than Summoned Skull. The Mage with
2800 ATK attacks
and vanquished Summoned Skull, reducing Yugi's Lifepoints to
800. Yugi
is in a though spot.
