The Death Of Yu-Gi-Oh!?!!!11
By: Ricky
November 9, 2005

I don't pretend to be something I'm not. I am a Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Player and I am as good as your slightly-above-average player, I like to think that I could top 8 at a Shonen Jump one day. That's where I believe my skill level is at.

Yu-Gi-Oh! IS just a game, and you should play only to have fun*, but most take it more seriously then that.

To some, Yu-Gi-Oh! Is a "I am better than you, so watch me prove it" contest. No one plays just to play, or to make fun decks, or to have fun at all, actually. Its just a big contest. "I'm the best". But the truth is, it is pretty hard to truly see where someone's skill level is in Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Is a game requiring luck, it doesn't matter what format you are in, Traditional, Advanced, other versions of advanced, there is always luck. Of course, depending on what format you play in, the luck can decrease or increase, it all depends. But the fact remains that it is near impossible for there to ever be one almighty Jesus of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, despite what you may believe.

The best players will lose to the worse players, and vice versa. So don't feel bad when you lose to your "Yu-Gi-Oh! Rival", it happens =|.

Usually, the better the player, the better judge he/she is of someone else's skill. You obviously wouldn't ask a newbie if your brother was better than you, but you could ask a pro and get a solid answer. Although you will never be certain if in fact, someone is better/worse then you.

Skill depends on the format, what if I was good last format, and this format I haven't got the engine going yet? I could have been a world class duelist last month! But now I am just a scrub. It can happen, it does happen, It's all true folks ^_~.

Where am I going with this? It all boils down to one thing.

You're killing the game!11 =|.

Nobody cares if your "Poan" is larger then Johnny's or Shelly's, all that matters is that you

1.) Play Yu-Gi-Oh!
2.) Have fun doing it.

Why aren't people doing this? Its a big ego contest (Read up a few paragraphs).

I remember back in the day, about 2 years ago, when I used to have...such a bad deck. It had no synergy, nothing ever flowed right, it was a big pile of crap. But so was my cousin's (My teacher), so it was fine. We would play every chance we could, and had sooooo much fun doing it.

There was never any talk of Playing for Cards, Cash, or Glory, we just played to play, because this particular hobby was a brilliant way to pass the time.

Today though, Teams have took over. All you ever hear about is "Team Wars" and "Zomg duel 4 cardz?!!!!1111!!!111". It sucks, am I right? ;p. You always here of people getting their decks, binders, and single cards stolen at Tournaments while they turned around for just 5 seconds, that must suck right? What kind of creep would steal someone's Yugimon cards ;|.

You see people arguing on forums about which who is better than what, its all crazy, its just stupid. With a bit of trash talking, a Yu-Gi-Oh! Regional can feel like a wrestling ring, except real ;x.

Ultimately, the death of Yu-Gi-Oh!, is not Konami's fault, or UDE's fault, you can't blame a banned list, or a restricted list, its the players faults. I'm not saying it is you, you could be one of the cool "Lets play this stupid crap because its cool" people who don't mind losing, but if you ARE one of the "Zomg my poan is far 2 large whabwns" type of people, hear this: Stop playing to win and start playing for fun, stop stealing, and work! Earn some cash to buy yourself that shiny Cyber Dragon, or 1/e MRD Kuriboh, whatever(Although I would prefer the Kuriboh =]. Kuriboh>lyfe)!

Who cares if your Hungry Burger deck isn't a top notch competitive deck, is it fun to play? You bet it is. Who doesn't want to see some savage looking burger take a bite out of your opponents life points? I want to see that =).

If we don't all do our part, the great game that we love will die, for sure. With all the effort you put into getting more broken cards like BLS-EOTB, Cyber Dragon, and D.D., Assailant, you could have built something awesome like a plant deck, and by now, done well at an SJC with it**.

I am done for now, look for part 2 coming up next week, later.

-RJ

*Except EmoD, who plays to make profit ;p.
**Which EmoD wants you to do, so he can netdeck it =].
